Fadia Ward is a mother from Philadelphia who is known for rallying outside of the Family Court building near 11th and Market streets. Her cause? She is zero-ing in on "deadbeat daddies" who evade the responsibility of having a child.
"I want to humiliate them... They have to get their acts together."
Her website, Daddydontwantme.com, is a website where struggling single mothers and fatherless children can tell their stories.
The site is surrounded by controversy. One reader says " What’s worse - not supporting your child emotionally or financially or putting the aforementioned losers on blast?? I support this website. My only concern would be if the children knew they were on a website called “daddydontwantme.com” because it’s a pretty harsh reality. Although the children are obviously aware their fathers are not in their lives in the way they should be, saying “your daddy don’t want you” can cause emotional damage, especially self-esteem issues, that could affect them for the rest of their lives."
Others defend the fathers, saying that there is often a mother who makes it impossible for them to be in their lives.
But it is still undeniable that many fathers worldwide need to step up responsibly to be rolemodels for their children. I see it in my friends, I see it in their friends.. I see it in my own family. Ms. Ward's overall message is resounding, a declaration to fathers across the states. You WILL be publically humiliated, the same way that these children are humiliated by their "daddy's not wanting them."
The opening video of her website has the testimony of eight different children crying out for their fathers. It features the Lupe Fiasco song "He Say, She Say," where Fiasco brings to life the wellknown story of many American children; as a consequence of the absence of his father, an emotional child rebels by failing at school and fighting with peers.
"He's your little boy, and you don't even bother," Lupe scolds, from the perspective of a crying mother.
The song has special meaning to too many people.
Noone can deny the number of misguided teens going to juvenile detention halls (even jails!) at younger and younger ages. The absence of the father is a serious issue that has major ramifications on our youth; gangbanging, drugdealing, mistreating women, evading their academic responsibilities, and continuing the cycle with their own children are just a few of the reoccuring themes.

I wouldnt have found it if June didnt send me her link... so technically we both found it.
ReplyDeleteGreat that you found this site.
ReplyDeleteI think this is an issue which would need much more publicity because it's just something a lot of young people suffer from.
And let me only say this...I can also relate to that song and it probably even helped me to get through this situation.
