An Interview With Cumalus

I would like for you to get the message in my music. It's me. I try to weed out the dumb shit. But If you can tell the difference between good music and shit...I'm the guy I hope you can come to. Not saying I'm the best, As I tell others I've got work to do, but I'm sure as hell above average.

lupEND: Please introduce yourself and let the people know who you are.

cumalus: Hello readers whats up? my name is cumalus. I make music.

lupEND: Where are you from...and what kind of music do you make?

cumalus: I'm from Omaha, Nebraska....Currently in the DFW part of Texas. I rap, I kinda don't like telling people that tho...maybe why I'm not signed!

lupEND: That means you don't like to show others your talent(people you know)...how come?

cumalus: Talent....haha thanks, but yeah because being a rapper...now gives you a bad name...everybody can rap, or everybody THINKS they can rap. I just try to make good music. I mean one time this police officer told me if i heard any music is cousin had made...The game is Its too clouded and not just the rap game, I know of the rock game too! Too many of these bands are rip-offs of other bands it gets old! People aren't bringing anything new to the table!

lupEND: Yeah I know exactly what you are talking about......

cumalus: Yeah, people will try to sell u some knock off shit...I actually give samples out for free.

lupEND: That's cool....So...when did you start to rap..and why?

cumalus: I started rapping 3 years ago...just going into it without a knowledge of the game just cuz I wasn't liking what was on the radio like that 'Laffy Taffy' Shit was hot at the time. I could write but nothing serious, but then the homie Camelot said they was going to the studio so I was like can I join? I had never spit a verse before. I wrote it on the spot, nervous....My verse was weak! lol I admit it! but the second song i ever recorded people was its one of the best I've ever done...so I'm a fast learner!

lupEND: nice... Who are your influences and artists you look up to?

cumalus: Andre 3000 Is at the top of my list. he is just so creative. Most people dont understand why he would start singing...but i do. you get tired of saying the same thing! next to him is Eminem, aerosmith, john mayer, the black keys, lauryn hill, queen, lupe, the list can go on and on but it's basically anyone whos doing something different!

lupEND: right..so what can we expect from you?...Is there anything coming out soon?

cumalus: Expect the best! Expect to hear my name more often! Hopefully more collabs! I'm working on a mixtape called 'Poems and Punchlines Vol. 2: Why So Serious'...Expect me to switch flows every four bars hahahaha

lupEND: Do you already have a release date for that?

cumalus: Not at all. I have half of the songs done. It's getting there!

lupEND: Ok...you are also working on something for the lupEND blog....which is still under the wraps....how is that going on right now...and what can we expect?

cumalus: Haha I thought we couldn't talk about that!

lupEND: Right answer....

cumalus: Yep! but It's gonna be crazy!

lupEND: cool...so, are you only rapping or do you also produce beats?

cumalus: I'm a lyricist first! I dont make beats just yet. I actually have a producer in france! SHOUT OUT TO SILAS! one in seattle, one in chicago...

lupEND: cool....what's your favortie album right now?

cumalus: wow...um...that changes like every week! this past week it's been lyfe jennings he has this song called 'warriors' thats the cut!

lupEND: So do you listen to black music most of the time..or do you universaly listen to everything?

cumalus: it changes like every week! like before that is was gnarls barkley, before that robyn, the black keys, a couple of months ago it was utada hikaru lol her song "animato" is a must listen!

lupEND: ok..I might check that out...have you ever heard of Ayumi Hamasaki?

cumalus: nope, but i'll look her up! lol the music i listen to depends on my mood. Oh the cd I've probably played most all together is from this band called "Why?" Crazy guys. love it

lupEND: Ok..so is there anything else you want to say?
