Lupe Fiasco At Bonnaroo - A Review

I knew going into Lupe Fiasco's late night set at Bonnaroo that Blake was not a big hip hop fan. He asked me why I liked Lupe so much, and I told him about all his great lyrics, the musicality of his beats and how good his flow was. I also tried to tell him how much better of a performer he was than Kanye. If only we knew how true that was going to turn out to be.

Lupe can dance, he can work a crowd and he even played some mic stand guitar during "The Instrumental." After a killer "Hip Hop Saved My Life," the entire crowed was shouting Lupe! Lupe! Fiasco, who was clearly having a great time, started cheering audience! audience! During "Kick Push" he had the whole crowd singing along to the skateboarding anthem.

The crowd ate up everything Lupe Fiasco offered up. "Daydreamin,'" which was recently featured on an ATT commercial, went over really well. To close the set out, Matthew Santos came out for "Superstar."

Lupe had been the very shot in the arm that we needed.

  1. I did a piece on Lupe & Wayne and how they are this generation's Jay-Z and Nas. Y'all should check it out.
