Lupe Fiasco: More From Glastonbury

During his set at the Glastonbury Festival in the U.K. last night, rapper Lupe Fiasco spoke out about “tyrannical world leaders”, clumping the Zimbabwe’s longtime dictator and the American president in the same category “F*@K Robert Mugabe, F*@K George Bush,” he said. F*@k politics, democrats, socialists, the Labor party. Music’s what it’s all about.”

So...you don't see that in the actual video of the performance...
but maybe it will pop up somewhere.

What do you think about his statement?

  1. Its one thing that I am completely disappointed in Lupe about. "Fuck politics, democrats, socialists, the Labor party. Music's what it's all about." Lupe is entitled to his opinion, but as an ICON to so many people, I feel its irresponisible to make statements like that. The problem with American politics is that the every day person feels disenfranchised... that they are only a small spec in the country and have no say so. Lupe has always been a "fuck politics" kind of guy.. and he doesn't vote. I think that is very irresponsible and disrespectful. Each of us owes it to those who faught before us.. women.. African Americans.. American Revolutionaries who faught against monarchy.. we owe it to those MOVEMENTS, their blood, to exercise our right to vote. How do you surface so many issues in your music and then hypocritically not even take YOUR initiative to change it. Especially in a time where there is a MOVEMENT for the PEOPLE to become re-envolved with politics. There is a campaign that is funded by the people and ran behind the scenes by the people.. regular people like me getting involved in the political process in whatever way I can. Going into the projects and section 8s and registering as many people as I can to vote. Turning down a paid medical internship to spend thirteen hours a day in 97 degree weather in the Confederate Capital trying to get people interested again. To feel like someone cares. "Fuck politics" is a statement that completely combats the movement. Fuck CORRUPTION. How about that? Our government will be corrupted until it becomes a democratic republic and not an aristocracy, or a goverment run by a small privelaged group of people. ANYONE can vote, volunteer, and spread the movement. We all need to include ourselves in politics and take our country back instead of complaining and not doing anything about it. Just my two cents.

  3. And addressing the "Music's what it's all about." ... Music is my heart, but for me it is a way for me to deal with things, forget about things, rather than make a difference. As far as really CHANGING someone's life rather than helping them evade their problems.. it doesn't do that except for the select few who are making it. I will love listening to music and creating it (i'm an instrumentalist) till death but I won't act like its the only thing that matters in life.. to me this feels even more worthwhile. This election is history in the making.. actually.. it has transcended gender and race and already made history.. shutting up now..
