Awesome. The album got me. I can't compare it to any of his previous albums, it's just too different. I really enjoy Kanye doing such experiments. And I believe him, that album came from his soul. Damn, for me Kanye is #1 artist. Mr. West & Lupe are two persons, who have been writing my life's soundtrack for about three years. Thanks both of 'em. G-A
Maybe.. even for US listeners, you have to click on the 808 album cover on the player to find all of the tracks... lucky you for the early purchase!
I haven't listened to any of the leaked versions; I didn't want to spoil with bad quality.
On first listen, I really like this album. Its out there, with Seeing Sounds for me. Seeing Sounds without Pharrell's voice, but with the raw emotions that Seeing Sounds sometimes lacked. When he's talking about his ex-fiance and his mother I get chills...
The production is very good (who expected any less?)... and now that I realize that the 808s and autotune were used to represent heartbreak, i give it much more credit. Definetly not a "Drink & Two-Step" application of autotune here.
Exceeded my expectations by an enormous amount. Kanye has simply outdone himself with the incredible production; I've never heard anything so intricate before. The lyrics touch home and are simple yet effective. I just sit and listen to the production often... so impressive. Love the album! Definitely buying this as soon as it comes out.
I have been looking forward to this album for a long time now. I love the raw emotion behind all the tracks that Kanye makes.
Unfortunately, unlike June I have listened to the leaks, except for say you will and bad news which I had sufficient self control to resist. I witnessed firsthand as Kanye over produced two of my favorite tracks on the album, Robocop and Streetlights.
The album version of Robocop sounds like a cluttered mess now with all the extra strings in the background, and no longer retains that robotic feel which I loved so much on the earlier versions.
On the album version of streetlights Kanye cranked up the volume on the distorted vocals. This may not seem like a significant difference; however it results in the loss of that great feeling of raw emotion on the track.
Despite those two tracks I will still be going Monday and purchasing what I consider to be a GREAT ALBUM...
robocop is 14x better now...the other one did not fit the mood of the album at all, it sounded like a leftover track of Late Registration...it had no soul to it. The album is insanely good. 80% of it is the soundtrack to my life from 2005-2007 and the rest i can really feel cuz I'm an only child of a single parent as well...
What I like about the final version of RoboCop is especially that LA Girl part at the end. I also liked the more robotic feeling in the first version but I think it's still there it just doesn't stand out that much.
Welcome To Heartbreak is also different from the advance version.
I was a little confused when I first listened to the final version because I was used to those advance tracks. But now I can see why he added more strings to the tracks, it just makes it more melodic and the vocals go along even better with it.
I guess i will be the first to say that the album did no reach my expectation. However i am not saying it is a bad album. I just missed the fast-flowing, mind blowing, eye popping, jaw dropping, heart stopping lyrics of KanYe. they're lots of good songs, but all songs reminds me of each other. Same mood. In my view, this was his weakest, but it is not a weak album.
I think that alotta people will agree that at some point in their lives, 808's sounded like the soundtrack to their lives. I posted a review on the album yestereday, but I don't know if even I could have done this album justice. Excellent album, one of the best of the year. Now if only I could get June to take care of my heartbreak....
ok...I've listened to it on Ye's blog...and it's growing on me. I can't get some of the songs out of my head so it's pretty good. mind you, in the chat, I said that it was an ok album. I'm willing to take that comment back :-)
I guess I'm one of the only ones who didn't really like it. I miss the old Kanye. I don't really like the autotune and the 808s and everything. I know it was supposed to be all artsy and it has a meaning and everything but I just don't really like the new sound. To me, it's boring. And does anyone think people are only liking this new stuff Kanye is doing because it's Kanye? Like if it was some nobody, who just started his career and this was his debut album. Do you think it would be as widely accepted as it is? I for one, don't think so. But that's my opinion.
well, Angie, hopefully he's not gonna keep that sound, so bear with it on this one album. I don't think that the album is great, but some of the tracks are pretty good...and on those good tracks, you kinda forget that the autotune is there [well at least to me]. I still think that this isn't his strongest album, but it's not as bad as I thought it was gonna be.
I guess people know my opinion about it....
ReplyDeletehmm...is that player US Only?

Very artsy. Exceeded my expectations.

ReplyDeleteI just wanted to make it clear that I love this album and will be buying it on Monday...and probably the christmas realesw to for the kaws artwork...
Just making sure that what I said doesn't get twisted the wrong way...lol
