In an apartment in Chi-town (Chicago), a Mohawk possessing artist strums with great ferocity. A powerful strum breaks through the acoustic silence to offer a minimal yet colourful showcase of tones, only to be quickly muted by the palm. Repeat.
This Feist-like intro continues until a warm voice resounds with an organic honesty that has been sorrowfully absent in today's mainstream world of over-synthesized musicality. A folkish voice begins to sing about “shadows in a shoebox,” a symbolic representation of the singer’s real-life friend who, in spite of their close relationship, continued to veil herself in secrecy. In a shocking, Lost-worthy twist, the musician bursts out in an unrestrained, free-spirited scat - unequivocally proving himself to be some different from the regular pickings from the Folk-Rock Music tree. The song is called "Shadows in a Shoebox" and the singer is named Matthew Santos.
