sillines...ask lupe if he is a rapper...what do u think his answer would be? he refers to himself as a rapper ALL the time. people that say rappers don't respect hip hop and MCs do are full of shit. Ask your friend Lupe and Kanye...hip hop is a culture...not one narrowly defined view of "real". Soulja Boy is hip hop just as much as Lupe just as much as Will Smith just as much Common. People are SO quick to hate and label people as "fake" or "killing" hip hop.
what "MC" respects ALL the aspects of hip hop? I aint never seen Lupe breakin or helpin breakers get on. I've never seen Kanye rep graffers. "Rapping" is the act of talking over a beat...so, rap is an action, it is a description of what an MC does. So basically you're telling me that Ice Cube and De La Soul can both be hip hop? How is that different than Jeezy v. Common? Hip hop turned gangsta in the 90s. WAY before this dude is talking about. Not even hatin, but being an "MC" stopped being cool in 1992 when the Chronic got popular. Common said it in I Used to Love Her. Gangsta was big with Pac, Dre, Snoop, all that...THAT is when it became so admirable to be a thug. And Biggie was the same as Jeezy and them, just in a different class of lyricism...Biggie celebrated being a gangsta and havin bitches. All these new gangsta niggas did was dumb it down. Biggie said the same shit about not bein shit unless ur strapped.
People got it twisted with their favorite MCs...rappers are hip hop the same as a MC...matterfact MCs are rappers and rappers are MCs. People just get mad that "rappers" don't tell stories. Lupe ain't any more REAL than any other rapper...he just tells good stories. "Rappers" as yall call them choose to just talk about what they say they know...whether it was their life or not isn't up to you to judge but thats like saying a writer who only writes biographies isn't real somehow
i'm a fool, nigga? It's not up to you to say what is and isn't hip hop. First of all, Lupe thought enough of Jeezy to put him on a track. Second, it's YOUR OPINION that Jeezy sucks. How dare you just assert that your opinion is the end all be all? That's ludicrous. I don't even fucks with Jeezy. Namely, Lupe is my favorite rapper, but you can't sit here and say someone isn't hip hop. And again...Tupac Shakur. Best rapper EVER. Poet, artist, wordsmith...glorified the gangsta life to the extreme. Biggie. Snoop. Dre. Cube. A lot of classic and dope hip hop glorified gangster. This is called a double standard. Oh and as far as dumbed down lyrics go...listen to some 80s shit. Come on fam. STOP HATIN, and don't ever call me a fool. Only a fool calls someone a fool.
Haha "new school thug rappers"...it's not like they were influenced by any other hip hop right? NWA? The entire West Coast? that was classic fam...y'all crack me up. Haterism at its finest!
Mann... S-Prizzle gettin argumentative again. But, once again, he's right. You musta be mad entitled to think that your opinion is the be-all-end-all of the subject. It isn't up to you to say Jeezy is wack; in fact, most of his lyrics are probably beyond your level of intelligence. Fact is, hip hop was originally intended to be progressive and universal. If an artist decides to do something different or take a "dumbed-down" approach, then that's his decision; but it's still rap nonetheless. And on the video, you said that a rapper was intended to "entertain" but MC literally stands for master of ceremonies-- they were originally only meant to contribute to the beats and the breaks. In other words, they added entertainment. By modern standards, a rapper is what an MC has become. Rapper = MC2
i completely agree with S-Preme. Jeezy does the same thing Big or Westcoast Connection did back in the day, he just happens to come from a different walk of life so he protrays it in a different manner and a different flow. If you asked Jeezy or Rick Ross if they love graffers or DJs, im sure they would say they love that aspect of Hip Hop too but cuz they dont rhyme about it means they're not an MC? Dude on the video said this generation became all about the thug more than the 90's, which is a complete lie. Because at the same time you have Jeezy, Game, or Clipse you also have Kanye, Lupe, & Skateboard P which is the same as having Big & Pac then Outkast & Tribe. In the end i think rappers protray whats around them and where there mind is at the time, as long as there are people that can relate to it then its good music. And im sure there are people that can relate to Jeezy or Wayne.
Wanye isnt a MC because he doesnt embrace different aspects of Hip Hop? What about Go DJ? Jeezy & Wayne arent MCs because they dont rap about anything meaningful? What about "I Miss My Dogs" or "Dreamin"?? I think the whole comparsion is silly. This guy said rappers are meant to entertain but MCs literally started out as hypemen for parties with simple lines that rhymed to get the crowd hyped. Listen to De La Soul's biggest hit, Me Myslef and I, and how simple the rhyme and rhyme pattern is...does that mean they're rappers because they're simple? This video is all together a bad comparsion.
I don't know. In my opinion, I think Jeezy is crap. But yea, he's still hip hop. I can't take that away from him. I just don't really like all these rappers that just talk about thug life and nothing else. It gets boring. And on top of that, they have no lyrics. A nine year old can write some of the stuff he writes. As far as Lupe putting Jeezy on his track. I think that was just him trying to reach out to more people and trying to expand his audience. Jeezy's verse was crap on the superstar remix. He rhymed Honda Accord 3 times with itself. At least T.I. switched up his flow and had a pretty good verse to keep up with Lu. I'm sort of a hypocrite though. Because I love NWA, Pac, Big, Cube and all those other 90's Gangsta Rap. But at least they had lyrics.
I really agree with this. I know that Lupe calls himself a rapper, because generally speaking that's what he is. Maybe this guy doesn't have the terms exactly right.. maybe its not exactly the difference between the terms 'rapper' and 'mc' but there is definitely a difference between the rappers he refers to: Jeezy or Li'l Wayne and Lupe Fiasco or Mos Def etc.
I personally like Young Jeezy, but I do only like him for entertainment reasons; the catchy lines and what not. I can listen to his music for periods at a time. Whereas, at the same time I love Lupe, but for a different reason. His lyrics are profound, and his writing style is unique. His music doesn't get old to me because its more than a good vibe, its the story, and the talent that make it timeless.
Basically, whether you tell it as the difference between 'rapper' and 'mc' or the difference between Jeezy and Lupe, it amounts to the same thing. There IS a difference between these types of rappers.
I agree with him. :] Rappers don't respect hip hop. MCs do. And it's true that they give hip hop a bad name.

ReplyDeleteyessir!!!!! finally real people!
ReplyDeletemy whole thing is that it IS NOT HIP HOP to say someone isn't hip hop...that's the exact opposite of what it is supposed to be.
i agree with him somewhat. I do agree with s-preme also-im torn tho!

I hope that made sense.
