ReplyDeleteDid y'all ever think maybe Gem is not ready to put the album out yet? There are a lot of artists that are perfectionsts (Lu & Andre 3000) come to mind and don't want to put out a product they feel is less than perfect.

ReplyDeleteHe'll never become a successful rapper just simply because he's not marketable at all, he gets his respect in the scene but he'll never be a mainstream artist because that's simply not the dude that he is. And Lupe probably knows that, too.
I don't think Lupe wants one of his own artists not to succeed, or else what would have been the point of signing him. Your making it sound like Lupe is doing this intentionally, like he wants Gem's album to flop. But you don't know that for sure. Maybe they're just waiting for the right time or something.

You don't know about Stones personality because he's never given a chance to show it. With throughout a distribution contract with any of the main distributors like Universal, your Cd may never get to the stands.
And as it stands(hopefully it has changed). He was supposed to be distributed by Giffen but not anymore. Gem still has not distribution.
FNF is just a label and Gem is not on Atlantic.
Although Lu may have some influence I doubt there is anything he can do.
Remember Lu had to shoot his own video of kick push, and when it started blowing up, that when Atlantic finally got around to put him out. and this is a guy who had Ye and Hov co-sign him.
What gem has to do is to keep hustling and bring something "attention grabbing" to the table before all these big corps can fasten up the process.
Ps. Gem may murder Lu in a rap battle, but that don't mean hes the better MC.

Anyway...Troubles of the World is STILL COMING...It got pushed back for various reasons...HE DID HAVE A DISTRIBUTION DEAL WITH ASYLUM...That deal fell through when Chill got locked up...then he decided he wanted to redo the album because he wanted to change his subject matter...which is what he did...TOTW was going to be an Itunes release...but he wanted more for it!
Gem knows what hes doing and he's very aware people! he has been working hard and he wants people to hear his album...
I have no idea wtf sean is talking about regarding the release date in late spring or summer...no idea where you got your info from...but he has not 1 but 2 mixtapes dropping VERY SOON...some dope as collabo's in the works...and amusic video for "Unappreciated" (which I will be in) that will be done by Christopher Adams (that did Kick,Push)

ReplyDeleteGemstones is a new artist. His single hasn't taken off or caught on yet and (unfortunately) hip-hop today is a different type of market.the buzz of your single and your project determines when you are going to drop. I'm sure gemstones wants to drop at the right time. Do you want him to drop now with no buzz and sell 2,000 copies? Personally, I'd like to see him succeed so I'm glad its on hold so he can release a couple more mixtapes and build some more buzz for his project. You see the same with big selling artists. Jay-Z "jockin jay-z" had no buzz so blueprint 3 got pushed. 50 cents wack ass single had no buzz so he's pushed back. My favorite rapper is nas, so I know A LOT about push backs.
Its the industry man, why are you rushing the album if he isn't? Especially for a debut album you need buzz and even sometimes that doesn't do it I.e. Saigon/papoose/etc.
Some of you are jumping out the window on this one, but the industry is the industry, like it or not. I'd rather get a couple more mixtape and features and build a buzz than rushing an album to the shelves that won't be successful.
Dudes are forgetting that this is a business no matter how backwards it is. And dudes are forgetting how hard it is for talented hip hop artists to be recognized right now.

S-Preme, I don't think I've seen you around this blog long enough to know what I'm talking about, but there has been a lot of negativity, accusations, directed at this blog in the past. I'm not linking or referencing as I don't think it does any good to bring up old issues. Some things really are unnecessary, like the comment above that Sean is a stan. Sean didn't even say anything at all (someone else made the spotlight comment) and is attacked... on his own blog.. you don't find anything disrespectful about that?
ReplyDelete"Beef is 90s" means that the negativity isn't necessary...the idea of joint projects is a great one, and I'm a fan of Lupe The Fiasco Show, too. I followed that blog because I had even heard of this one. If the arguement is that its a professional problem (ie phone call from FnF), there are professional ways to approach someone. "To err is human...", although in this case what qualifies as an error is completely subjective.
I don't see why you are even responding to what I said... or throwing claims at me when that comment has nothing to do with you at all. You seem to really be taking this post (or maybe just its comments) seriosly, as every couple comment is yours.. so while you may not be perceiving beef, i'd have to say that you sure are prolonging the discussion.
As far as Lupe doing Gem wrong, all I can say is that if Troubles of the Word were released tomorrow, it would flop. Take it as you want, because you could argue that lack of promo is Lupe's fault, or that he is trying to bring Gem up with all of the features in his music. Its not for us to say; I'm sure of us has none of the inside details (maybe Haruud, lol).
At any rate, thanks for the update Sean (& Busy!), because inshallah by this time next year we will all be bumping some new Lupe.

An album release includes proper marketing, pushing and promotion, all of which gemstones receives none of...come to the Chi and ask a nigga.
