Hmm..I wonder why MTV keeps getting worse every week...
Check this article and how they constantly take shots at Lupe.
Best Rap Solo Performance: In a category of heavyweights (and Lupe Fiasco), we're gonna go with Wayne's "A Milli," if only because voters might feel a twinge of remorse for shutting him out everywhere else. Two relatively amazing other possibilities: Snoop Dogg's "Sexual Eruption" wins, and he accepts the award with dripping Jheri curls and a keytar slung around his neck. Or Nas wins, and someone has to awkwardly read out the title of his song, you know ... the one called "N.-.-.-.e.r (The Slave and the Master)."
Best Rap Song: Another big-name category (Weezy! T.I.! Jay! Kanye! Snoop!), which means that the one lesser name — Lupe again — will probably win here. Common sense does not apply to the Grammys (though Common often does).
Best Rap Album: Academy voters sure love Lupe Fiasco, whose The Cool snagged another nom here (too bad voters don't also buy albums). Wayne's Tha Carter III should be the favorite here, because it's the year's biggest-selling hip-hop album, but don't count out Jay-Z's American Gangster, which came out so long ago that voters might have forgotten that it was relatively underwhelming.
Are they serious? Have the authors even listened to "The Cool" ? I highly doubt it, they make it seem like they would have prefered it if Lupe wasn't nominated for anything. Out of all those aritsts Lupe is the one who'd really deserve to get an award, especially for Best Rap Album....and you all know that it's true.
Maybe MTV should think about giving Lupe some better promo and offer him a main slot at some of their award shows and give him the stage time that he deserves instead of letting Wayne perform 3 times in one night. Then they probably wouldn't even be able to brag about how people don't buy Lupe's album and shit.
Actually I didn't even want to put this up here but it seems like MTV is constantly riding Wayne's d**k and when someone who actually does positive music gets some well deserved nominations they try to make it look like he didn't deserve to get nominated at all.
That's all I wanna say about it...let me know what you think, maybe I'm interpreting way too much into this article.
you can read the whole article here
yeah....I said it on my twitter account before...
ReplyDeleteWe don't care about what they say...but what's up with those 14 year old kids who read their site and who actually go out and buy albums or beg their parents to buy them. That's the impact that MTV has. And for those kids MTV should actually support artists who are better role models...
that's just my opinion though...
Sean, thats why i cant wait for someday to have the power and go around pissed and tell them whats up n set their f*ckin minds right
ReplyDeleteand besides...only thing MTV does, is complain, even about their own shows haha
but yeah it doesnt matter if he wins..but what matters is these damn people gotta stand up and start to realize they cant just discriminate against an artist (not just Lupe, any) whos actually doing something good

ReplyDeleteSeveral things here:
ReplyDeleteWho still gives a fuck about grammies? There are 589427 different categories, so a win means nothing much.
MTV has gone so commercial it's pathetic. Back in the day when they would still play music for the sake of it being good, rather than in the charts. When Beavis and Butthead was still being aired, when you switched to MTV and eight out of ten times music would be playing.
Now you have to subscribe to additional MTV channels to actually get music. It's beyond ridiculous.
They need to completely rethink their image, because even people that like the crap music still hate on them for this shit.
^^ i totally agree..like 8-9 years ago MTV was still awesome..even their award shows were big..but now it's just full of reality TV BS and if they play music, it's mostly crap
ReplyDeletemtv hasn't been dope since i was like 12, and i'm 23...they don't even play music...but still...EVERYONE is entitled to an opinion...however, while I would have agreed that he's not a heavyweight in relation to snoop jay tip and kanye...they took it to far...first of all, snoops last 2 albums sold like 9 copies put together, so i don't know why they are tryna hate on lupe for ONLY going gold. (Cuz every artist ever sells 500K right?...riiiight) AND having a song be #1 for 9 weeks, that's not a feat or anything either...MTV is retarded
ReplyDeleteseakahde
^^ MY WORD VERIFICATION - don't front like you do that too - get your own steeeezz...goharded
Eyo the explanation's easy. MTV's sending out subliminal (or not so subliminal) messages tapering to make the public like Wayne and them more than Lu so they can keep buyers ignorant and sedated to good music and keep making money off relatively effortless garbage. =)
ReplyDeleteyeah i just read that article... it was ridiculously retarded. I hope Lupe wins and gains some well earned respect. He's been in the game what, 3 years of relative fame, only 4-5 of activity, and he is selling gold? whereas snoop, nas and jay-z been around for a hella long time, TIP and wayne been around since around 2001, but is competeing with them. I m not hating on the other artists, i listen to them all frequently (well not snoop so much) but he deserves respect not to be despised its an uncalled for shot below the belt/
ReplyDeleteThis is the most insane garbage ever! Next week marks one year since The Cool came out and I STILL keep it in the CD player in my car constantly. That, along with American Gangster, was the hottest CD I've purchased since Food & Liquor. Nas's
ReplyDeleteCD..........not so much. And I wouldn't get a Lil Wayne or Snoop Dogg CD if they came free with a 5 gallon fill up!!!!
MTV sucks and when the triple CD drops next year look for them to be jocking Lu to boost ratings on their wack ass TV shows. I hope Lu gives them the "Vibe treatment".
mtv is well know for dissing the hell out of hip hop artist then turning back on it and kissing their ass when you get even better Example/I.E. Kanye West at the VMAs. Just think about it, 3 or 4 years ago they coulda diss Wayne the same way, saying he wasn't that well know, doesn't mean Tha Carter II wasnt a great album. but now they suck Wayne's nuts and dick at the same time cuz he sold a two million. Opions change real quickk when you get even bigger than before.
ReplyDeletefirst of all, anyone who thinks MTV WANTS you to buy Wayne's record is trippin...they don't make money off of record sales. Secondly, once again, the Carter 3 is a pretty good album. The Cool is better, IMO, but that doesnt mean it sucks. MTV like d swizzy said....they dickride whoever is big because it does make them money. People watch Wayne cuz he's big right now. So they disrespect Lupe b/c he doesnt garner the demographics they want. They would do it to anyone who they don't see as an asset friendship...they just dickride to get on good terms. the gave kanye hella blowjobs to get back on his goodside after the fiasco 2 years ago.
ReplyDeleteWho cares about MTV... Their opinion is rarely good. I would actually prefer Lupe stay away from too much MTV, because it diminishes his true value as an artist.. MTV is too cloistered for me. Lupe can maintain fans and make awesome records without that shit.
ReplyDelete-Trish.
Well, clearly the person who wrote this article has never heard "The Cool." Even my friends who aren't fans still give respect to the artistic quality of that album.
ReplyDeleteMTV, Lupe Fiasco's the Cool in stors now!
Seriously? Thats the dumbest shit ive ever seen. Anyone in their right mind would know that Lupe totally deserves all of those nominations. Maybe MTV (MUSIC television) should actually listen to the artists they choose to criticize. They seem to be just following what the trends are, and right now its a five foot nothing syrup drinker. Seriously, can Wayne's supposed fans actually name his songs beside Lollipop and A Milli? THOUGHT SO.
ReplyDeleteFuck MTV!
ReplyDeleteFor real, I think Lupe deserves all those awards. (especially Best Album). Just because he doesn't sell as many records as Wayne doesn't mean his album isn't as good. It's actually like 10000000 times better than C3. (I have them both) He is definitely on the same level as those "heavy weights" and actually I think he's better than a few. The only ones that I think are better than him are Nas and Jay but in my opinion he lyrically kills T.I. Wayne and Kanye. Lupe is my favorite rapper. He's amazing and he deserves to be recognized. But this is MTV - the channel that is supposed to be all about music but is filled with stupid reality shows. It's so dumb.
Once, they had an article that said Soulja Boy was really a genius that was satirizing hip hop. MTV is really fucked up.
fucc mtv yo they need to quit dick riding wayne. the only reson he sold so many albums is because tv stations bouth thousands of records and passed them out.
ReplyDeleteomg...mtv never said lupe sucked...they said he's not a heavyweight...which is true. The dude is a beast but he's not a mainstream presence. So the comments were a lil off color, but they aren't inaccurate, it was just tactless
ReplyDeletehahaha...lupe is in NO way shape or form a better ARTIST than Kanye West. lyricism is only one aspect of an artist yo.
and again to stress the point. MTV didn't say he wasn't on the level of the "heavyweights" and they are called that because that's what they are. Jay, Nas, Ye and Wayne have mainstream presence, and Lupe doesn't. Case and point. MTV put him in the top 10, granted at a retardedly low number, but still. They also made him a featured artist of the week. They clearly respect the man's prowess ON THE MIC. Whoever wrote this article is a little OC, but not entirely off base.
Well, there's not much more to be stated on the subject...but Lupe does deserve each award. Whomever it was that wrote the article obviously didn't pay attention to the Lupe promotions about The Cool on MTV right before the album dropped.
ReplyDeleteLupe is a mainstream heavyweight though, you can ask all the top rap artists who their favorite current MCs are and his name just about always comes up. And Coca-Cola doesn't work with just anyone...
"hahaha...lupe is in NO way shape or form a better ARTIST than Kanye West. lyricism is only one aspect of an artist yo."
ReplyDeleteThat's your opinion. And I reallyyyy disagree with it. I don't think Ye' is that great. I mean, I think he's good, but I still think Lu is better. I like Kanye better as a producer than a rapper. Same with Dre.
wow...i said artist...the categories aren't best rapper. It's best hip hop artist. Kanye West will have a lasting impact on both hip hop and music. Lupe is my favorite rapper, but he isn't on Kanye's level, artistically..
ReplyDeleteand again, Lupe Fiasco is not a mainstream heavyweight. Coca Cola isn't even an issue, I'm talking about MAINSTREAM. Superstar was Lupe's biggest hit. Not knockin cuz but compare that song to stronger, big pimpin, what you know and a millie...by means of mainstream presence...he is an underdgog
