That second reviewer didn't even seem like he heard the song. Lupe had no wit in his flow? Lies! Matthew Santos sounds like Adam Levine? Lies!
ReplyDeletePitchfork's credibility was lost, well to me at least, when they placed 808s and Heartbreak in their top albums last year. Pitchfork's opinion don't mean shit.
ReplyDeletei don't really get the adam levine comparison either.i didn't actually know they compared.
ReplyDeletewow, that reviewer is a complete retard
ReplyDeleteUm... The track could have been just as good as "Superstar"... The beat & Santos (the hook) are there BUT LUPE ain't saying shit. He has a few tight lines and some okay flow but content is thin and it doesn't fit... third verse is like what 8 bars!?!?
ReplyDeleteLupe dissappointed me on this one.
whoever the hell is pitchfork is retarded
ReplyDeletetheir favorite rapper must be somebody like drake or soulja boy
lupe with now flow? what?
go home.
flow wasnt great tbh. it depends taste.
ReplyDeleteit sounds like lu talking i dont play shining down for the lyrics cuz they are lackluster and im not gonna lie about it like you dick riders
ReplyDelete"whoever the hell is pitchfork is retarded
ReplyDeletetheir favorite rapper must be somebody like drake or soulja boy"
this might be the dumbest comment I've ever read. Sure this review was stupid, but you can't question Pitchfork's taste in music. The Pitchfork Music Festival is one of the best and brightest in the Chicago Area.
also, whoever said Lupe's content was thin doesn't understand the 2nd and 3rd verse...FAIL
Lupe killed it as usual. Song was sick. better than superstar.
ReplyDeleteIt was kind of short. It doesn't compare to Superstar though. Not lead single material if you ask me. Maybe an Intro or an Outro to the album.
ReplyDeletepitchfork just seems like they dont really like Lupe, but on the other hand Matthew shouldnt really comment on one reviewers opinon through his twitter. Let the haters hate continue doing you and let roll off.
ReplyDeletethey have no problem with lupe, the editor of the entire website loved the cool. shining down however, is nowhere near the standards we have or should be holding for lupe. i'm as diehard as the next guy, but shining down is a weak attempt at an "epic" song.
ReplyDelete"its also NOT the first single"
ReplyDelete...hahaha. what was the first single? army girl?
I think he only released Shining Down, because he was pretty much forced to considering that it leaked and all. There is no video either. So I'm pretty sure the next single he releases is going to be for real, and have a video.
ReplyDeletethe beat is dope, the hook and matthew singin is dope but lu has dissapointed me i hope he isnt falling off =(

ReplyDeletefalling off?!
ReplyDeletewtf...that's such a dumb thing to say.if this is what u define as falling off then their can't be anybody in the world that hasn't fallen off through ur eyes.
^^ lu don't moo, no cow words you only heard lions?
ReplyDeletelyrics are sick bruh
moo = cow words
cow words = cowards
cowardly lion couldn't roar
you heard lions...
well maybe you should break down the lyrics for me cuz i didnt catch that line until u explained it
ReplyDeleteI initially was just like eh a reviewer who didn't take their time to actually listen to the song. Then I scrolled down and saw him praising the gun-happy song of T.I. on Make You Sweat. Songs about guns usually being T.I.'s worst songs. So I just took it as he didn't really catch the fullness of a song only meant to really announce his return.
ReplyDeleteha, i love how lu is still going over peoples heads.
ReplyDeletefalling off? failed? lost it? did any of you even listen to the words, much less the god dam message of the song? jesus.
"lu don't moo, no cow words you only heard lions?"
ReplyDeletedamn! I listen to the song mad times and i didnt catch that. same thing when I'm listening to other things like Outkast's ATLiens. But i think Lupe was forced to release it cause of the leak you know, it makes sense. When something bad happens you gotta turn it into a good thing, ya digg, thats what he did.
It is a wicked song and although it MAY have been released earlier than expected it was most definitely planned as the first. He played it here in Sydney in January, well before it was leaked. Its a great track. FNF up!
ReplyDeleteSorry Matthew... you do kind of sound like Adam. Lol.
