GWHH's Analysis of the Angels Remix

Shout out to Tibs from Gowherehiphop who posted his analysis of Lupe's Angel's [Remix], check it out:

"I see diamond flooded demons, Lamborghini angels,
Halos down wit the doors flappin' when they came through,
Windows up, system bumpin' you the one they sang to,

Same to who said they the ones you should send your thanks through, Pockets full of blessings, they can sanctify and saint you. You can hear em rev-in up in heaven now, can't you?"

Tibs' interpretation: The 'diamond flooded demons, Lamborghini angels' line speaks to those out there obsessed with the diamonds (or money in general) and angels masked in/as Lamborghini's.

Lupe continues the metaphor by saying that the angels are singing to 'you' (people, in general), that the angels can save you, and that you can hear the Lamborghini's rev-in' - a direct allusion to angels up in heaven. The verse continues...

  2. Thanks a lot Lupe.

That was a cool analysis. It surprises me how much things can be thought of out of seemingly simple lyrics. Like that butterflies turning suicides and phantoms flyin. Never thought of that. Wow. Thursday can't come fast enough.

  5. thanks for the shout Sgt.

i kinda thought the song might be about The Streets on the first listen ("i could see it in her eyes"). but i didn't notice the wire tap line till you pointed it out in your breakdown. that kinda solidified it for me.

man, it's crazy how lupe can keep putting out these songs that have ties with The Cool. i think this song could go immediately after Emperor's soundtrack and right before The Die in the MYH storyline

  6. stop right now...Emperor's Soundtrack is not in the MYH soundtrack...the ONLY songs on F&L about dude are The Cool and He Say She Say < and even he say she say only relates to it

  8. "Here we are now, entertain us
    Change don't change us
Ever since THE GAME TRAINED US
We came up like worms in the rain
I dream, MY CHAIN BECAME A LOOSE NOOSE, that was used to hang us"

the chain that was given to him by The Streets...The Game raised/trained him. i know it's kind of a stretch. but it fits, i think.

  9. My two cents. I feel like the last line 'Thought I called a angel, devil's had my phones tapped' brought the entire song together. Goes back to the beginning with the 'Lamborghini Angels' and demons. He describes the angels as the car (the lamborghini) in the first part of the verse, and describes the demons as the insides of the car (the engine, leather seats, and the woman driving). The angel (or what we believe are good things) is essentially a demon inside. The demon tries to assure him that this is good but he finally starts to realize that it isn't - it's all evil. Now we wants to get out of the car get rid of it, what he thought was good in the past isn't what it really is. I took that as a direct attack against the materialistic parts of society and hip hop in general. Everyone wants to be rich and get that lamborghini because we think that's what's good that's what would make us happy, but when you do achieve it you start to realize that it doesn't matter anymore. These lambos and diamonds aren't worth anything - they just fuel ignorance, not happiness. Yep, my bad for convolutedness, just trying to put the thoughts out in words.
