I'm glad he did this. It made me re-realize how much better Lu is than every other rapper.

^I'm not saying he should have never made it. If you are into this type of thing, I'm sure it's good. However, to me personally it just re affirms why I support Lupe and not %99 of most rappers. That's just my opinion.

Lupe was rhythmically weak on I'm Beaming. I mean, Pharell gave him a sick beat, and his flow was just too slow, and contained. The lyrics were just great, but soimetimes that's just not enough... Ah, I miss the pre-F&L Lupe...

If so, how come Lupe's recent freestyles haven't matched up to "Dead Presidents?" Yeah, because they were written, it was just recorded on the spot.
Oh yeah, Chamillionaire is a beast. He FLOPPED on his last album, but if you know the history of Chamillionaire, you'd know what I'm talking about.

Everybody's got their opinion. I've been following Lupe since 05 ever since I heard "Failure" I knew he was a lyrical genuius. After listening to Lupe's mixtapes and albums I realized he's also a musical genius. I'd have to say ever since then he's probably been my favorite artist.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm from Texas, and for those who aren't up on Chamillionaire, don't talk like your oh so sure Lupe completely blows him out of the water. If you stop and compare their careers and lifestyles they are very similar. Like Lupe, Cham doesn't smoke and I believe only drinks on occasion (if at all). They've both put out 2 major label albums with their sophmore efforts being highly criticized for being different. Cham's sophmore album didn't have any cuss words (Do you know how amazing a feat it is for an artist not to curse and the listener hardly notice?). They're both trying to reach that goal of becoming better artists while appealing to more fans. They both are pissed at their major label have spoken out openly about it, and they are both very business savy (which they are very well respected for by other artists).
What's been goin' on recently is Cham released a double disc Mixtape Messiah 7 via his website as a thank you for his fans in the fall. Then when the record label pushed back his album again to March(originally due to come out 2/2/10), he drops this Major Pain mixtape instead that day, in order to appease his fans for the record labels broken promises. His Mixtapes are almost like albums because they're always high quality with no dj drops and he adds all new choruses. And lyrically they are cold as hell!
Now I know some people aren't gonna like em because everyone has their own taste. But you have to respect a grammy winning artist who still personally distributes his mixtape albums to struggling record shops across the nation, and shakes the hand of everybody standing in line waiting for him before he signs a single autograph.
Not only that, but I asked Cham about Lupe and he said he's a "huge fan" he's got a lot of respect for him. Trust me if you want lyrics with that southern Texas flavor look to none other than Bun and Cham...they the best in that department. And though he might not've killed lyrically over this beat, he's shown me more than enough times he can do it whenever he wants.

ReplyDeletebtw I dont even think lupe has at least 1/13th amount of music Chamillionaire has put out... Cham has been out and grinding since 1998.
Honestly I like Lupe more..but the way Lupe has been getting lazy and Cham is STILL up and grinding going hard for Texas and Houston..MY opinion might change and I might think Chamillionaire is better since he has been more consistent.

If you don't respect that, than that's real low man. I can care less who you think is better..but give a man his props when it's deserved.
Besides there are a lot other people who are grinding harder than Lupe right now.
For example Gucci Mane...I dont like his music as much as others..but dude has been workin hard and I respect that.

ReplyDeleteThe only people that says Chamillionaire sucks are people that only know him for Ridin' Dirty, which is foolish. That's like me saying that Lupe sucks because he made Kick Push and I'm not a skateboarder. If you ever had the chance to listen to Chamillionaire before the major labels came, you would really understand what I'm saying. At the end of the day, Cham & Lupe are both talented artists.
