"Ahead of my time, failed history, passed chemistry,
quiet nines and Quinine
My energy, always be weaponry to unload,
while there's people to hold up,
reputations to uphold
I'm Gung Ho with them white lines,
not the kind that divide traffic
but the kind that remind addicts, automatics to yo attic
Teched-out Porsches 'n' the decked out Boxster"
This week's Genius Lu comes courtesy of @MusNYK20 of The Evident Truth and it's from Lupe's "Ooh." Below he explains why he chose it:
"'Ooh' is one of my all time favorite Lupe tracks. I've always said it's the most underrated Lu track which is the reason why I chose it.
An insane flow with hard hitting lyrics just waiting to be deciphered. "Quinine" referring to a chemical alkaloid, hence the "passed chemistry" line..
"Gung Ho" means "work together" however Lu correlates it to a "Gun" in which he will kick knowledge to your head hence the "automatic to yo attic" line. (Sean's side note: Gung-Ho is also a character from the "G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero" toyline by Hasbro) Man, that whole song is ridiculous."
It's quiet nines and quinine. Kenny1K6 made the same mistake when he wrote the lyrics out for the first time too.
ReplyDeleteAlso one if my favorite Lupe tracks. This comes RAW.
ReplyDeletePleaseeeeee put this song on ilumination. ive been trying to decode this joint.
ReplyDeletesean decipher this for us please
ReplyDeleteUh.... he said Gung Ho with the white lines, not the kind that divide traffic, but the kind that remind addicts, automatic to yo attic. Could he have been possibly been talkin about the white horse? Reminding crackheads to rob people so that they can afford these "white lines"? I mean I'm an avid fan don't get me wrong, but this was from his mixtape days when he actually(or didn't ask Chilly) messed with this stuff...

ReplyDeleteI'm Gung Ho with the white lines, not the kind that divide traffic, but the kind that remind addicts, automatic to yo attic!
ReplyDeleteDAMN!!!!
But lets not forget about the obvious term of "passing chemistry" as in selling/handing off those white lines in question...just sayin =)
ReplyDeleteMaybe "white lines, not the ones that divide traffic" line could be sayin he didnt "stay in his lane" which could be the "typical" black man stereotype OF passing chemistry or selling gun; a division of traffic being in the acquisition and also the sale..."teched out porches" could be not just a tricked out car that you BUY with the drug money, but the HOLES in your car after you get robbed, a "decked out Boxter" not being a Porsche, but a nice casket for the aftermath...but I could just be doing too much "reading" =)
ReplyDelete"No other rapper can contest me! ...that's for certain! ...that's fo sho!"
ReplyDeleteLu went IN on this track! wish he did this nowadays :-(
