Review: Lupe Fiasco @ the Royal Oak Theatre in Detroit, MI

@k_lindsey attended Lupe's concert at The Royal Oak Theatre in Detroit, MA yesterday and just sent in his review of the show. Check it out after the jump!

Lupe and B.o.B are 2 of my favorite artists, so having both of them in one show was incredible.

We had VIP tickets to the event, but turns out so did about 200 others in front of us, but nonetheless we still were able to enter the theatre ahead of those without the VIP tickets.

B.o.B kicked off the show performing 'Surprise Me' off his latest mixtape. He surprised everyone I think when he brought out Playboy Tre to perform "Bet I"... These two work so great together, and it really showed on the two songs they did together tonight.

B.o.B went on for about another hour, performing "Generation Lost" "Lovelier Than You" "I'll Be In the Sky" "Nothing On You" "Out of Time" "Satellite" "Mellow Fellow" "Monster" and closed his set out by bringing Tre out with him to do "Voltage."

Royal Oak Theatre staff was on everyone's case about having cameras out.. I was told to cut mine while filming "Generation Lost". B.o.B brought a few fans up during "Voltage" to rock out on stage with him and Tre, as well as bringing one girl up during "Lovelier Than You" to sing to.

B.o.B thanked the crowd for the support and love he's received from the beginning and lately with the success of his singles on the radio and iTunes.

Next we all awaited Lupe to take the stage. The crowd went crazy just when the backdrop of the Steppin' Laser World Tour logo came down.

Lupe's set started with a countdown from 10 leading into Erik Hammer playing the chords for "Shining Down," right as Lupe emerges the crowd erupted. Lupe's energy during his on-stage performances is untouched.

Lupe went on to perform "The Instrumental" ...twice, actually. The first time, right toward the end his mic went out. Mic's were swapped, and the other mic was not working either. He swapped mic's once more and finally got one working and finished the song.

Lupe wanted to give the fans what they paid for, so he said they're gonna do the whole song over again. The Instrumental being one of my all time Lupe fav's, I was more than happy with that.

He continued with "The National Anthem" "State Run Radio" ..followed by a new song I have not heard yet.. then "Everyone Nose," "Go Go Gadget Flow," "Kick, Push," "Scream," "Beautiful Lasers," "I'm Beamin," "Supestar," "Paris, Tokyo" "Daydreamin," and "The Coolest," "Hip-Hop Saved My Life," "Hi-Definition," "Little Weapon," "I Gotcha," and "Solar Midnite."

This is easily the best Lupe show I've been to out of the 3. Certainly having B.o.B there helps the cause, but regardless.. these tracks off Lasers are amazing, it makes me much more anxious for Lasers to come out.

Everyone should experience this show if they can, even if you're not so much into hip-hop, I can guarantee you'll have a good time. And for those not into this genre of music, you'll leave liking something about it, because this is what real hip-hop is.
