"Slowly but surely it’s turning that corner. Especially with the signing of Lupe, when he got on that’s when the turn really started. So it’s turning slowly."
"Artists like myself is really helping the turn even more. When I come out and can have mainstream success, I think that’s going to do wonders for other lyrical rappers."

The Rebirth Of Lyrics In Hip Hop Was The Day In September 2006, When "FOOD & LIQUOR" Was Released. I Was Truly Reintroduced To Real Lyricism From Track 2 "Real", To "Kick Push 2". Lupe Really Did Start The Lyricism Movement Of This Day And Age, And I'm Glad To See An New Upcoming Artist, J.Cole, Give Props To Lupe Fiasco. Lupe Deserves It!
ReplyDeletei always knew i loved this man J. Cole! more props to him for recognizing Lu's impact.
ReplyDeleteHow is he so sure that he will have mainstream success?

Cuz he with the Rock.
Shouts to J. Cole! Yea, it's no secret that Lu is no small part of the reason why the current rap game is the way it is. Lu was damn near influential in every aspect with his debut, including fashion, lyrical content and swag....
ReplyDeleteFrom a music blog I frequent:
"There’s no question rap music is in the midst of a major sea change. The jeans are getting tighter, the hoodies brighter. Gangsta is out, hipster is in, and those who don’t adapt are told they’re becoming obsolete. The fresh wave is young and ambitious, full of entrepreneurial spirit whilst spitting about SEGA and sneakers."
^^^ IMO, that all started with Lu and Food & Liquor. Dude changed the game and most of these new freshmen are jockin his steeze, though no one really awknowledges it.
Props to my man J. Cole! Slowly becoming my favorite rapper, taking LU's spot at the top. But that can be easily altered if LU and Atlantic would just drop LASERS, damnit!

Roc(k)? Riiiight cuz Wale did SO well!
^^wale had two top 100 billboard records. for a debut album he created a solid mainstream buzz. none the less, i think j.cole has a better chance at success for multiple different reasons.
ReplyDeletethe 'hipster' look cant completely be claimed by lupe b/c kanye and skateboard p had that rollin for a couple years before him. but theres no denying the influence lu's had. just take a look at dudes like Charles Hamilton, Wale, Blu, Cudi, and so many others.
