Honestly when Lupe raps his verse he paints a story its so damn vivid I can picture it in my head perfectly he's deep as hell. Greatest rapper ever to touch the earth.
If I hear one more Excellent verse from Lupe, i'mma go crazy. Man, Lupe story telling is so amazing I can always image what he rapping. Like it's so magical. New single come out Tuesday, I can't contain myself. LUPE!
Mos: don’t look down, it’s an impossible view//fly like an eagle whatever you do//don’t look down, it’s an impossible view//spread your wings, aerial // Lupe: Head to the sky, wings raised then// she’s about to fly, and take her place in//Out there in the stars when she leaves the ground// she’ll see a broken heart, if she turns around//But aint no going back, this is how it must be// he told her she’ll be burned alive she just told him trust me//If funerals are beautiful this is ugly// knowing this he told her you would leave me if you loved me//And he knows that, because he knows her//hard to hide his feelings, as he engulfs her//Now she’s a bright blaze light rays// I shooting out our phoenix on fire burnin up the nightscape//So let’s hear it for our heroin//applaud as the spirit just flies to the never end//One closed chapter it opens another part//so this is more like, the end question mark//
I write poetry and lyrics all the time and here is my breakdown on the hook, and lu’s verse. Hook: The phoenix is flying to and with “he”. Mos is saying don’t look down to the phoenix’s life she is leaving behind because where you are now is so great. The view is a metaphor of the greatness of the new life the phoenix has with “he”, the old life is dead, and that is why the song is called the phoenix story because in witchcraft, the occult, ancient egyptains, new age,Satanism/luciferianism the phoenix represents the destruction of something, and out of the destruction comes something new. A little side note: the original bird of America wasn’t an eagle it was a phoenix. Don’t believe me look it up. But anyway that’s basically the hook. Mr Jaco: the phoenix starts on the ground at the end of her old life about to take flight and meet “him”. Lupe explains that once she’s airborne she will be sad because she’s leaving behind her normal life, but once you decide to go to “him” there is no going back. He warns her he will kill her if she tries, and she reassures him that she wont. The funeral line refers to the meaning of the phoenix. Funeral are beautiful, but this is the opposite; she is being reborn. “He” who is portrayed as fire burns her, inside and out, we know this because he knows her. So now she is officially with the stars, she’s a part of the nightscape. She has her new life, her great life described in the hook. The other stars applaud her, and we finally learn who “he” is. He is the spirit who just blessed her with her new life and now he flies off… the last line alludes to the fact that the story has just begun. Basically this is a poetic description of selling your soul to the devil, well in my opinion but it seems pretty obvious.
^ ur wrong. the phoenix is leaving the rapper behind. thus big seans verse is about his girl doing him bogus.
the shit is meant to mirror kanye's film Runaway. The phoeNix has to burn and has to leave everyhting behind. The phoenix is LEAVING him not going to him
Also like I said, just an opinion. Remember this IS poetry many poems appear to be one thing but are metaphors for another. That's called a conceit. Read some Poe or Emmerson or hemmingway or just pay attention to what you're listening too. It's too naive to take everything as it seems. Broaden your mind and find your own interpretation
I did my own research and the us bird was going to be a Phoenix!! A little trippy... I also noticed it's used for a lot of companies. American eagle, USAA, university of Phoenix... I think as lupe fans none of us want to believe he's caught up in this stuff; I wonder how he feels
i think he's not ang ah he called mtv out for being a Illuminati article..plus the message he raps does not sound Illuminati..but some artist are...but lupe not one of them
I believe Lu's verse is a reference to cyclops and Jeans(aka phoenix)relationship in the x-men comics..the runaway film can also be a parallel to that story
y'all done rippin it ? lol deff good friday

I watched the film and parts do make sense, BUT in the film the Phoenix IS the devil.
ReplyDeleteNotice the way she falls from the sky like Satan.
Or a more obvious direction count how many times you hear the word Satan/devil

ReplyDeletethe phoenix isnt the devil....wtf are u talking about
ReplyDeletefirst of all, that's just stupid, she represents everything different and unique
and kanye even said "satan" is everything trying to make him conform....
FAIL
dont interpret poetry anymore
I agree wit dude. Everything he broke down makes sense. And if you ever picked up a bible you'd see what he meant by the Phoenix being Satan.
ReplyDeleteClose minded drone= ETERNAL FAIL
