On the sound of Lasers:
“Musically, I’m more comfortable bending genres. … The album feels more popular, if that makes sense. The message is a little more wider. More people will be able to get it and it’s more clear. I became more simple. Still complex, but I became adept at communicating better. … There’s a lot of rock influence on the record. A lot of trip-hop, downbeat stuff. Some of it doesn’t even sound like a hip-hop record.”

ReplyDeleteAwwww man... We all knew that this was eventually going to happen... At least if Lupe goes platinum he'll be in the talk of best rappers alive... maybe not, but this automatically means that LASERS is better than F&L and The Cool

Damn. I don't mind if he's going for a different sound, that seems pretty cool. But changing his style is whack. I love Lupe's lyrics because he's able to use storytelling and symbolism to form something unique from other rappers, which most people don't get. I think he's going more straightforward with his messages, which just doesn't seem like Lu at all.

ReplyDelete@Anonymous u have to understand that most of us fell in love with "super lupe lyrical." Ive been a fan since late 05 and thats what im used to hearing..i still think the album is going to be better than what most expect due to the circumstances lu has been through to get a realize..i think this is the last album he has to do for his contract(i hope)

Indeed. GTS was hot. Super hot. Magma. Solar even. Even SLR, though not mind numblingly lyrical, was hotness in itself. Yes the Show Goes On isn't exactly Carrera's best but I think it simply goes along with the whole LASERS manifesto type dig.

Yea I'm not worried, he said simpler not simple, but still complex. I like it. He has a good message, why not make it so most can understand. No need to flex all the time. I think his verse on diggys "oh yea" is a good example. Lil hidden but gets the point across.
ReplyDeleteGo To Sleep was classic Lupe -- super lyrical. If that's what we can expect from TGARA, it's gonna be sick! I think we will be surprised by LASERS. Yeah, for the most part it might be simpler, but it's not like Lupe is going to suddenly change. He'll keep his style, maybe a little simpler, but I think he will still will have the meaning and message there within a poetic-type writing. And I'm sure on some songs there will be some lyrical craziness because he's smart enough to know he has to please the hardcore fans.
