While sitting in the 27th-floor lounge of his corporate parent during the month before Lasers' release, Fiasco told The Daily Beast that he initially felt he was "creating new music" with his first draft. Then came the pressure from his label to take a pop turn.
"That's what the record label made me do," Fiasco said. "I asked 'What album do you want at this point? You're shitting on my creative [process] and what have you.' ... And they said, 'We want Top 40. We want No. 1 smashes.' ...So the focus for everybody, from A&R [people] down to the writers that I write with, went to: 'Let's get these smashes, write these big-ass hooks and get these big humongous beats.'"..."They don't have a choice on the next one," Fiasco told The Daily Beast later that night, back up on the 27th floor of his record company's office."The way I'm putting it out now is: What some of you guys sent me through, you'll never have a say-so on a project of mine ever again. That conversation between us is done. You're not even allowed to tell me what to do at all."

I love the way this sounds!

There's light at the end of the tunnel. Food & Liquor II is going to be insane. I can't wait for the first single.
ReplyDeleteI knew it. LASERS was suppose to be a dope not so lyrical album, but Atlantic had to butt in. Lu is very creative. Song s like shining down was Lupe's initial approach to LASERS. Every time I here that song it brings me back to june 09 when shining down was initially released. I would have never expected LASERS to be the way it is based off that song.
ReplyDeleteAnd People Wonder Why I Respect & Admire Lu So Much... Creativity & Character Runs Through This Mans Veins!
ReplyDeleteLookin Forward To The Two (More) Projects He Said He Was Gonna Drop This Year!
*3 Finger Salute*
LEGGGOOOOOOOOO!!!!
ReplyDeletegod i really hope this is true
ReplyDeleteSO BASICALLY ITS UNDENIABLE HOW MUCH HE HATES LASERS BECAUSE IT AINT HIS SO WHY HE TELL PPL TO BUY IT
ReplyDeleteI fucking love lupe. It's either 100% lupe or no lupe from here on out. and that the way it should be. i'm glad lupe is done making compromises. you give atlantic an inch and the'll take a mile and he knows that
ReplyDeleteHe really doesn't like this album. He tried to say he liked the album, but hated the process to make the album. He said he doesn't make any money off this album, which is why I wonder why he wanted people to buy it. Glad I've saved my 10 bucks, now I'm of to get Pizza Hut pan pizza with that $10.
ReplyDeleteI should have just got the album for free and donated 10 dollars to the lupe fiasco foundation. isnt that what lasers should be about anyway?
ReplyDeleteLet's hope F&L II is a continuation of All Black Everything.
ReplyDeleteActually Lupe gets $4 dollars off of every CD. So he got over $800k.
ReplyDeleteF&L2 is gon' be ill

He's said repeatedly that he gets nothing off the album, but who really knows.
i dont understand, i heard how Lu said that he was happy of like 80% or so stuff that make it to record...
ReplyDeleteanyway, if Lupe didnt wanted people buy that, he wouldn't spread so much attention about that. <3 Lu. Greatest album of 2011 for me.
@maxtarkhov
if no one bought lasers then atlantic most likely wouldnt release another lupe album or him in general from the label.
ReplyDeleteArtist make normally make pennies on the dollars on albums.
They mess up F&L2, i'mma really gonna go up there and make a scene. They got what they want now let Lupe continue making the music he use to make.F&L2 gonna be a classic just like the first one if Atlantic stay the hell back.
