ReplyDeleteits a good refrain..ahhhhhhhhhh how i miss the old lupe..come back on Food & Liqour 2 thank you..
ReplyDeleteman in my oppinion the most lyrical song ever by lupe...or anyone for that matter is s song called Glory...i you dont know it go check it out..one rhyme through out THREE verses ...with some crazy metaphores and meanings...
ReplyDeletedeepest song by far has to be "i gotcha" - over all you like airplanes over corn fields yadiggg
ReplyDeleteThis is my breakdown of beautiful lasers - 1st verse. See if you guys caught on to all these dope references...
ReplyDelete"Sometimes living in a world like this"
(He is also an alien like Lil Wayne, not of the same breed as a lot of these other rappers)
"Pretty hard not to go insane"
(The hardest or the ones who claim to be the hardest on the block are usually just insane with pride and confidence which usually ends up in them gettin popped for it)
"Not pretty if you dont comply"
(men in general dont like when pretty girls dont do wtf men tell them to do)
"Pretty easy if you dont complain"
(building off the last rhyme, women aint gonna get smacked if they dont complain)
"Stand there like you dont feel pain"
(Most people sit or hit the ground when they feel pain, like a gunshot)
"No tears in the face of defeat"
(If you cry in front of someone you just beat in a competition or something, they'll think your insane, referring to the first couple of rhymes ((TRIPLE ENTRE!!)))
"Pretend to the end that you dont feel change"
(You can act like pocket change doesnt add up, but i does anyway)
"Dont admit that your faith is weak"
(He is comparing his plight in the music industry to before Jesus went on the cross when he was doubting himself)
"Dont say that you feel like dyin"
(He is in such a bright spot light, he cant be truthful with his fans about how much he hates their attention)
"Life's hard and it feels like diamonds"
(Even though he has problems with his career, he feels good about the diamonds he buys, he also feels likes the only way he might survive is through the jewelry he can buy at this point, nothing else matter)
"Your home's just far too gone"
(Your house is so far away from his cuz his is better, that's what helps him feel good and not wanna die)
"Much too late to even feel like trying"
(Half of the time, he could care less about making music, he just does it to make a living at this point)
"Cant understand what Im sayin?"
(He is implying that his fans arent even smart enough to figure all of this out)
"Cant figure out what Im implying?"
(Triple Entree: his fans are dumb concerning his plight, he sometimes makes contradictions so even HE doesnt know what he means for himself, he is unsure about his own future in music and as a celebrity)
"If you feel you dont wanna be alive"
(He is asking whether or not his fans might be suicidal after understanding the true meaning behind his music)
"You feel just how I am"
(He thinks they will be just as suicidal as he is)
"I'm on the dark side"
(He's not a jedi anymore, he's now a sith lord ((FROM STAR WARS)) TRIPLE ENTREE!!
"And you cant come find him"
(He is lost and can never be found)
"Yeah, but it's dark on the side of him"
(He is standing in a room with a light on one side so it's dark on another side, also, double entree, he feels like his music is dying represented by the dark light that cannot be removed)
"No winners when its me against me"
(He is confused by himself so he cant beat himself)
"One of us just aint gonna survive"
(Either he or his fans will survive, but not both)
"My heart been broke for a while"
(He came out of a bad relationship recently)
"Your's been the one keepin me alive"
(His new girlfriend is making him forget about all of his problems, referring to the line in Go To Sleep where he says his girlfriend is a ten)
Yeah I know this uploader, good looking out. And of course, you have this site for the best breakdowns of Hip-Hop songs:
ReplyDeletehttp://rapgenius.com/
I alway feel as if lupe is trying to make up for his drug past with his positive message, maybe its just me.
ReplyDelete"And of course, you have this site for the best breakdowns of Hip-Hop songs:

I usually don't trust that site for breakdowns mainly because anybody can just throw in their own interpretation and make some things up
Rapgenius.com does a great job of deciphering Lu's lyrics. http://rapgenius.com/artists/Lupe-fiasco
ReplyDeleteThey even wrote an article dubbing him the "Proust of Rap" and anyone who's a fan of his music will love it.

I think I said it before...I don't like those breakdowns cause I like to form my own opinion and figure things out on my own.
ReplyDeleteLupe Fiasco > Shakespeare
ReplyDeleteLupe Fiasco is the most lyrical rapper....I wish more people were familiar with his stuff....hes the best emcee ever in my opinion
ReplyDelete^^^I'm with Sean, That's why I don't read Lupe's lyrics on any song, but after two years of unraveling 'Dumb It Down' I figured I might as well watch one of these videos and I realized I still missed some!
ReplyDeleteThe Leon Spinks/Sphinx line went right past me....
i agree with sean!
ReplyDeleteI like to form my own opinions also, but when you see other people's breakdowns it allows you to see which one makes more sense, your own opinion or there's. If both make sense it's most likely that the line has two meanings(double entendre).
ReplyDeleteWhat I didn't like about the video is that it missed double entendres.
Thanks to datkid for posting this I'll compare these videos to rapgenius's breakdowns.
Don't like calling someone wrong since lyrics can be interpreted in many different ways BUT Pharaoh Munch's little analysis of Beautiful Lasers is either trolling or very misinterpreted.
ReplyDelete@Pharaoh Munch
ReplyDeletescary to think thats how you interpret other LU songs, especially since Beautiful Lasers ans Laser is more simpler. way off! I agree with this anon^, youre a troll lmao
I just think hes clueless. Trolls dont put that much time or thought into posting. And he seems to know his shit bout Lu. Interesting interpretation nonetheless. Maybe were the wrong ones lol. Only Lu knows..
ReplyDeleteum yes trolls do put that much time and thought into posting hell good trolls put wayyyy more time and effort into their post than Pharaoh Munch. That shit he did is baby steps.
ReplyDelete"I usually don't trust that site for breakdowns mainly because anybody can just throw in their own interpretation and make some things up"
ReplyDeleteI kinda have to cause English isn't my first language.
Sorry dude's, but that was pretty whack and superficial.
ReplyDeleteThat was just putting images to the lyrics, that shit ain't hard. I was expecting more based on the description. Lame.
The breakdown of Switch as pretty good. Never really understood the whole "science experiement".
ReplyDeleteHoly shit, how can anyone hear songs like this and not put him up there as the greatest of all time.
ReplyDeleteive listened to lupe the killer how many times, and i never knew about the drug trafficking shit??
ReplyDeleteThis vid had most of the metaphors, but not all of them
ReplyDeleteAnd to Seven: I think Lupe had his hands on a lil something along with chilly.. go listen to his 8mile freestyle and you'll hear him say: What am i suppose to do with this punk ass chump ass advance their handing me, i came back with birds like brandon lee" (he's lable was holding out on the money so he used the labels advance to give to chilly to buy some birds) to possibly make the label FnF

ReplyDeleteand on the dead president freestyle is an error in the lines from the vid its suppose to be: " No question you don't got to a.s.k i fly dope/through pockets full of j.f.ks" which translates him telling you where he at and what he's doing (JFK= dead presidents= slang term for money= or DIMES (he's on the dime)= dime= slang term for dope= WHICH HE GOT ON THE PLANE flying from JFK the AIRPORT in NY) so basically hes making a trip. and if you look further into it he messed with Jay-z back in the day before music and NY, (home of the JFK airport) jayz was the boss of on the dope tip so Lupe might had been copping with him
They are completely accurate but i'm grateful.
ReplyDeleteSwitch is crazy!!!!!!
