A lot of unsigned artists fail to realize that their music is not only an art, it's a business as well. You're trying to build a brand. People are going to ask question like "why should I listen to you?" "What separates you from the pack?" "Are you worth the backing?" It's more I could say, but I think you all understand where I'm coming from...
