UPDATE: The stream is over now but you can watch the discussion above!
The discussion was great and is definitely worth checking out. 48 minutes into the discussion Lupe also talked a bit about "Food and Liquor 2" and said that he hopes that it'll drop in the 1st quarter of next year and that he worked w/ Robert Glasper for it. He also said that his sister Ayesha did a poem for it! - Watch the video and enjoy!
I'm glad that Lupe gives due thought to the issues...but sometimes, I feel like like his thought process interferes with the quality of his art. He's been talking about important issues his whole career, but Food and Liquor is the only album where his lyrics and style were GREAT all the way through. Every bit of that album was hot. Everything since has been less. I've been trying to be hopeful about his new stuff, but it keeps letting me down. I'm trying to be hopeful for Food and Liquor II...Robert Glasper is AWESOME!

ReplyDeleteCornel West is a legend.
ReplyDeleteLupe Fiasco is a legend.
ReplyDeleteHe just blasted all the "cut your hair" "Lasers is garbage" "You sold out" people hahaha
ReplyDeleteLUPE!
@potusanya
ReplyDeleteWhat did he say to them.
@Daniel McDowell
You are crazy The Cool is better than Food & Liquor hands down.

ReplyDelete@Daniel McDowell
ReplyDeletei disagree. we should not judge artist just by their albums but their full body of work. most would say fnl and the cool are better than lasers but post cool tracks like shinning down, beaming, go to sleep and fire etc. are better than some of fnl and cools songs and they show that lupe has improved on many different levels. lupe showed more growth from his first mixtape to his first album than 99% of rappers do from their first album to their last.
^^^ SLR, Go To Sleep, Fire, Enemy Of the State mixtape, that track with UNKLE, Guest Verses... he always tries new flows too.
ReplyDeletein any type, the man seems to know that the youth are the careless. I think its interesting that he ends the argument the way he does. Any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteThis is a good panel thing.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea why Lupe's was surprised about the reaction from LASERS. Yes the messages is still there and is meant to spread positivity and what have you, but at the end of the day it's MUSIC. Every aspect of it has to flow harmoniously together. You can't have good lyrics with a trashy beat, delivery and chorus. A lot of people didn't like the sound of LASERS and they were simply expressing that they do not like that sound. If we don't express how is Lu to know if we like the LASERS approach or not? How is he suppose to know if we think LASERS is his best work or not? People like potusanya laugh at those criticizing Lu because of LASERS, but doesn't realize that Lu is making F&L 2 for the fans because of the criticism he received from the fans. If you like LASERS good for you, but that doesn't meant that the people that don't should keep their mouth shut.
ReplyDeleteAnyway the discussion was great and my anticipation for F&L 2 has grown a lot more.
FOTP needs to drop ASAP!
I had no idea he moved to California!
ReplyDelete"Amy Winehouse she sound good, especially coming from the vanilla sound of town." Hahahah!! Lu almost died....
ReplyDeletePeriod, young blood. I return monthly
ReplyDeletethe last thing from heaven is the first thing from hell the other ones are not of us the devil rings the bell. just to let you guys know: LUPE IS ILLUMINATI
ReplyDeleteSMH at this idiot above me
ReplyDeleteI'm Illuminati also. We're gonna eat your babies and steal your cookies at night while you sleep! Mwahahahahahaha!
ReplyDeletePeople like potusanya laugh at those criticizing Lu because of LASERS

No I don't. I was just laughing at the fact that he blasted the people that see him in a certain way, and when he strays away from it they get mad.
^ He didn't blast anybody he just spoke on the issue. Now the bigger issue is his fascination with Lil B. The kids even thought that was crazy and I would think the kids would support Lil B. They were almost laughing when his name was mentioned.
ReplyDeleteIf you hate on Lil B you are obviously ignorant. That's like me saying Lu is wack after I only listened to LASERS.
ReplyDeleteLil B is basically the biggest troll in hip-hop and all the "wack" songs you hear are just jokes. Have you seen the cover for i'm gay. That shit is deeper then A LOT of your favourite rappers shit.
I ain't saying Lil B is the great,I am just saying don't dimiss him just because you heard his funny stuff.
Age of information
The Growth
Motivation
just a few positive and good songs from Lil B. Sorry for the paragraph but that ish pisses me off.
^cosign
ReplyDeleteLil B is trash, and he's got triple the negative songs that he's got positive. Hiphop ain't a joke. Who is he Weird Al now? You listen to the kids in this vid, they're laughing as soon as his name is brought up. They could careless is Lu co-signed him or not, because they know trash when they hear it.
ReplyDeleteYou drop a few positive songs, followed by 10 of those I'm a pretty b*tch jawnts right after. Doesn't make you a positive artist. Stop defending trash because Lupe does, have your own mind about what you hear. Once again Lil B is trash.
IF YOU GUYS DONT BELIEVE ME, skip to the 1:29:00 to like 1:30:00 mark. SEE WHAT HE DOES WITH HIS HANDS. TELL ME THATS NOT ILLUMINATI.
ReplyDeleteI liked Lil B before Lu co-signed him. One you have just proved your ignorance. If you know your history hip-hop was built on fun so there is nothing wrong with having fun and funny in your music. I respect him more then a lot of conscious rappers, the fact he takes kids who are ignorant and enjoy the hoes on my dick songs and makes them positive.
ReplyDeleteIts not like I am some fake hip-hop fan too, I am certified hip-hop head, we should give resepct when respect is due.
Only ignorant one is Lil B and I would like to give Sean a s/o for keeping that garbage off this site. Dude is a disgrace to the entire game and having fun records are apart of hiphop I agree, but that "suck my di#k, cause Imma pretty bi#ch" is a complete joke and a farce. It's all good though that clown will disappear soon. Soulja boy got a few years to shine and now his time is up and soon Lil B will follow suit. "I'm Bill Bellamy" yea that's alot fun!
ReplyDeleteFor the last time-you cant just join the illuminati! Yes there are a plethora of dark sects in the music industry; Cornel West is a Freemason btw. Lupe is no different; to be mainstream you HAVE to pledge allegiance to something. To the artist it is a necessary evil t get where they want to go.
ReplyDeleteSoulja Boy got his shine from his first huge hit.
ReplyDeleteLil B worked hard to get his CULT following. He ain't going anywhere for a long time so stay bitter.
Busy Bee & Dougie Fresh said "I Love Myself" on songs...I'm dating myself
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how Lupe's introduction is straight outta Wikipedia lol.
ReplyDeleteBut overall a very invigorating discussion through and through.
this was cool but I wouldn't necessarily give Lupe the credit of "spiritual giant" as Cornell refers to him.
ReplyDeleteCan we get the audio for this?
