ReplyDeleteI mean, yes Lu did used to have the gangster rap lyrics out there, but you can't forget.. that's what he grew up listening to. Of course it'll affect him enough to start rapping that way. And it's not a bad thing to stop and realize that that style is not him or what he really wants to do, and start being the 'nerd' he is.
Definitely unprofessional. The writer just wanted an excuse to take a shot at Lupe.
unprofessional or not, form an external and objective persepective, some of what he is saying is true depending on how you look at it.

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with refraining from negative gangster rap, considering that being a "gangster" is what is putting men in women in caskets, behind bars, and keeping fire to the black stereotype of such. So, Lupe was wise enough and thought about our future's enough to alter his subjects into making men and women think more productively. Would you rather want music that praises murder and blatantly disrespectful stereotype OR would you rather want music that is helping a young man or woman ACTUALLY WANT to go to school, get an education, be intellectually insightful, and unafraid of the person they are and NOT follow the crowd that may condone such personality. Break the ignorance. Break the historical chains of this gangster, thug mentality, and we will be free as a people and as a world...think about it.

Again, he hasn't changed much. His topics are generally the same, it's simply his approach that's altered.
Lupe is still the same Lupe from "Kick, Push" to "Words I've Never Said". He's still putting out the same message and there is no "persona" he's putting out there. Only difference now is his hair. People just hate (Philip Mlynar apparently) when a legit artist get's little fame. There was no drastic change, that's just what people want to see...

When has Lu said that he became conscious because he'd make more money that way than being a gangster rapper(never mind the fact that non conscious rappers make more money than conscious rappers anyway)? Never, Lu never said this. Is Lu switching up because he truly feels that spreading positivity is better than spreading negativity that hard to believe?
