  11. Ah thank you, Lu! On the QuESt vs Lu nonsense, both are ill. QuESt's flow is ridiculous, but lyrically Lu has the upper hand and vice-versa. It's all a difference of preference, both are on point

  12. i just listened to the whole tape.......lupe is watered down and wack now....i knew this would happen

  13. hmmmm quest or lupe? I honestly can't decide, but that tells you something, both are ridiculously amazing

  17. 7 of the 11 songs are really good. I'll take that on a free mixtape. Better than LASERS IMO.

Loved the line about LASERS in The End Of The World.

  20. I seriously can't believe people are saying quest is better than Lupe. Go to rap genius dotcom and see the break down of "Lightwork" then you'll see the mastery of Lyrics Lupe displays. Most of you young fucks don't even know about fbi/panthers; c.i.a/sankofa is about... or the delilah with them .45's line

  25. this guy sean the robot is a "yes" man. he never EVER thinks lupe can do any wrong..this mixtape isnt better than the last mixtape..and he did record most of the songs in the last two days..you can tell in the rhymes he doesnt really care, he threw SLR on there when we already heard it. Just because its free doesnt mean u cant criticize it. be honest with yourselves

  28. Lupe is NOT a sellout! He did not produce any of these tracks, the tracklist even notes the producer/artist of the song! Lupe won't be a sellout til he starts rapping about guns and hoes (which'll never happen)! Besides, Lupe's completely dominated the dubstep sound!

    ReplyDelete
  29. oh and is lupe really a sell out for putting Jesus on the cover? I don't get it....

    OUR lupe??

Why do ya'll niggas talk about him like he's the next Jesus? You know this is a terrible mixtape. Made in 2 days? Hasn't he said it's been coming since October? Why didn't he start working on it then?

    ReplyDelete
  39. He made it in 2 days and it way better than most mixtapes!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Like I said Anonymous person who talks smack but doesn't even have a name...

MAKE SOMETHING BETTER. Or just stop listening. No one forced you. You act like somebody make you wake up this morning and download it and listen to it.

And I could have easily said MY Lupe, but I'm willing to share. Today. :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. How do any of you know it was made in 2 days? Were you there while he was recording it? Fall back with that nonsense. If you don't like it you don't like it, leave it at that. Even though i find it hard to believe anyone would dislike this, imo. FOTP! I FIGHT EVIL!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Rhymestyle said it was made in 2 days on twitter

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm thankful for all music, but 2 days? C'mon Lupe..We've been promised this for two years. Take more time with your work. Of course he would put songs we've heard before on it too. I'm done with Lupe. I tried. I waited 3 years for an album that reversed everything I listened to on f&L/the cool and now this slow layman's terms flow is never going away. F&L was the first cd I ever bought and I've worshiped the guys music for years, but I can't take this mediocre radio rap. Lupe complains about how many fans hate on him now...newsflash: that's how many fans loved you before you 'dumbed it down'. If you want to get a message of rebellion across then do it with your talent and creativity. Don't just say it. Goodbye Lupe. HELLO JAY-ELECTRONICA!!!...Lupe take notes.

    ReplyDelete
  44. This all sounds rushed, and mediocre for a Lupe mixtape. By far the worst thing, though, is the cover and the song title "WWJD, he prolly..."

    WHAT IS GOING ON, LUPE?!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. QuESt has the some problem as Dosage, they only have like one flow. It works but it's holding them back imo

    ReplyDelete
  46. I busted out laughing when that one dude above mentioned Jay elect as the alternative

    ReplyDelete
  47. And yeah, kinda upset that Lupe recorded this in two days. Shoulda taken his time

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yeah I agree with the Jesus comment and Austin's comment. This is looking like some Lil' B shit. Seriously on my last nerve with Lupe Fiasco now.

    ReplyDelete
  49. 8/10 especially bc it was made in 2 days

  50. How can you judge against an artist that has constantly put out fire and said himself lasers will be simple/different.. then add to that Atlantics involvment.
    Judge him on F&LII.
Mixtape: love the songs of choice, killed them all nicely. Very nice change from the norm I listen to.

Return of the Jedi, who stud-ied under the master"

Jay Elec is coming in fuckin hard. Maybe you just don't understand/haven't heard it.

    ReplyDelete
  52. lol @ the haters. You all do know Lupe has a life, has been touring, has many other interests, and did this for free (which, btw, means he had to pay for studio time and producers) to give you free music that is amazing. Just because the subject matter real world shit, you hate. Sorry that Lupe is no longer feeding your need to feel like you are living in a world where all the problems don't effect you. Admit it: When the music was about conflict diamonds, drugs, and all these things you would love to pretend you've lived or are knowledgable about, you were loving it. But now that its about something that's in your face (politics, everyday problems, corruption, and economics), you hate because you don't want to deal with it.
"Is it really that you hate you? That's what it is, ain't it? Go ahead and punch yaself in the mouth then."

    ReplyDelete
  53. lol at the guy here who said quest has one flow. he obviously doesnt listen to him

    ReplyDelete
  54. That's fine. Just saying that in comparison to what J. Cole and and Kendrick Lamar have put out this is complete shit. Lupe used to be on their level. If he'd rather tour and be busy then that's cool with me. I'm moving on. Not my favorite artist anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I've only listened to the songs Rhymestyle posts on here and he has the same flow in them all

    ReplyDelete
  56. His job is to make music for sale. The mixtape is free. Calm yourself and use your brain.

I think way too many music fans are either willing to settle for the mainstream stuff (Wayne, Drake, etc) or think they are owed something by the MCs of the world (Talib, Lupe, etc).

Bet you wouldn't do your job for free.

Lupe Thanksgiving. Black Star Friday. Be thankful.

    ReplyDelete
  57. That's cause J.Cole and and Kendrick Lamar feel like they need to put out mixtapes to stay relevant. Sad ideology of Hip-hop these days. If you don't give people free music (even though these people will download your CDs for free anyway), you're not doing well by your fans. It's almost like forced ethos. The good will towards the audience is forced upon the artist in unreasonable ways.

    ReplyDelete
  58. ^^ You're right but when J. Cole and Drake kill everything they release it raises expectations. Gotta beat the competition if you want the fans.

    ReplyDelete
  59. The tape hasn't even been out for 2 hours yet. Are you all reallllly already judging it?

    Let that shit marinate, first.

    And Happy Thanksgiving.

    ReplyDelete
  60. But now you're just making claims of value. Drake is trash, in my opinion. His music was and is incompetent. J. Cole is having a great year, no doubt. But when you go to work, you don't perform your work in accordance to how everyone else does their work. You do your work how it is supposed to be done. And as an artist, that involves doing what you want to do artistically, in an ethical matter (I say ethical manner because if you do your work in an unethical way, you should probably be fired. Plus, I feel like rap has gone from art and being driven by the same rules as literature, poetry and most other music, which keeps it from being taken seriously. But I digress).

So be grateful for what Lupe has done. Different artists are in different places in their career and doing different things and are driven by different reasons. You don't have to like it. But don't expect people to change. I hate lil wayne, but I expect him to be lil wayne tomorrow and do what he wants.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I love all these Quest fans now lol, where were you guys a few years ago?

Now he is all of a sudden better than Lupe? I'm not saying he isn't great, because he is, Iv'e known that for awhile, but compare his best to Lupe's best then retract your statement...

Muslims believe in Jesus as well. We do NOT believe he is God though, nor that is he the ''son'' of God. We also call him by his real name, Isa (peace be upon him).

Try using your brain a bit more eh..? 14 denominations, most of which conflict, just doesn't seem right :/

Save that soul saving stuff for someone else. Lupe is a shining light for Islam. He might even have saved you, and you didn't even know it :)

  78. @IntheSpirit

Salaam isn't a name... LOL. Its a blessing. Clearly you don't know much about Islam... Which realllly doesn't work well in your favor when arguing in terms of religion.

"To know one is to know none"

Take it from Lupe, as a kid he used to attend both the church and the mosque... He knows whats up on both sides.

And I've been backstage with Lupe when he made du'a... I was in DC when he said Al'Fatiah IN FRONT OF A SOLD OUT CROWD in remembrance of his late grandmother... I've been in a Mosque with Lupe... I've prayed Eid prayer with Lupe in Chicago... I waited at FiascoFriday for Lupe... Wanna know where he was? He was at Jummah prayer before coming to FiascoFriday... Sorry bro, Lupe is a devout Muslim and definitely not LOST as you say. Saying something like that opens up doors for a religious debate and there's a time and place for that.

On a side note, Muslims believe in and love Jesus, though he is not believed to be God. He was a prophet of God.

On another side note, THE MIXTAPE GOES HARD! Open your ears for something left field if you don't like it. Its something new!

  81. J.Cole will never be on Lupe's level GTFOH lol. What is JCole's purpose? I mean really? FOTP>Cole World. As a artist you have to take risk, and not be afraid to lose fans; and that's why Lupe stays relevant.

BTW, who cares if it was made in 2 days or 2 years, the outcome was still the same. I do agree with the people who are saying that Lupe aint the nerd that we fell in love with.

    Happy Thanksgiving y'all.

    Thank You Based God

I was actually a little disappointed at first. But by the end I really liked it. In reality, I don't think anyone can give an opinion on this mixtape, or any Lupe song/album, without sitting down and looking at the lyrics. I feel like a ton of this went over my head.

    Good work Lu. Thanks!

  90. SNDCLSH In Vegas off the top my fav; Sandusky reference (1st rapper i've heard make the reference) & a Chuck D reference...

    ReplyDelete
  91. My opinion: iv been a lupe fan since forever forever and no I don't like this mixtape much. The really know he is still talented but the thing I don't like is that he's ryhming over wack music sorry I fell in love with the music that was hip hop not rock. He clearly still has it but dude come on with the wack music b your better than damn near ever rapper show it and claim your spot. Phinox is dope that new verse is crazy, the subject matter is perfect street, political, I'm the best rapper talk, with some fly baller shit sprinkled is all well n good but I stopped really feelin lupe after the last mixtape. Everything b4 was crazy but sorry u can't alienate the fans that got you there jus cuz u wanna fit in wit uk ppl. Btw my friend works for atlantic as a producer and he smoked a blunt with lupe. Said he's pretty much a light weight lol so he's not lying about that lol

    ReplyDelete
  92. lol at the J.cole comparison. dude seems like any other rapper to me

    ReplyDelete
  93. Man, to everyone thats been saying he dumbed it down, wtf? Really? Love this! This should keep me good till F&L2.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Double burger with cheeze, Joaquin Phoenix, SNDCLSH In Vegas and Life, Death & Love From San Francisco are dope, that's enough for me from this mixtape. I also prefer the old Lu, with his killer flow and hip-hop beats.

Hope he comes back on Food & Liquor II for his real fans.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Lupe is my favorite rapper and always will be. I think he is one of the best of all time and I've been listing to him since the start. Just wanted to get that outta the way before all you guys get all crazy on me. Lyrically he killed it as always theres no denying that. But the beats are awful I personally hate dub step music, lupe needs to go back to his roots that cool nerd from chi. Being from chicago myself hes like a legend to me and we need that lupe back.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Damn some of y'all are angry. Oh well, u guys keep coming back for more soooo I guess you haven't given up on Lu yet. :-) that's good I guess.

    Happy Turkey day :-)

    ReplyDelete
  97. i still rather listen to quest over dubstep than lu

    ReplyDelete
  98. Some of you need to stop being emotional about it. The ones of you mad at us long time disappointed fans are probably fans who got put on to Lu after 08.. (been listening since 07) or caucasian or both...

You dont understand. Lupe had the potential to be the greatest rapper of all time. He had the lyrics, style, charisma, beat selection, and just enough mass appeal. I consider the Cool to be a classic album. Lyrically and beat wise, there may never be another commercial album we see CLOSE to it...

But then Lu got on this "rebel" stuff and is practically a new rapper now. No more extended metaphors. No more intellectual songs... now he just wines over these quasi rock beats, about "da guvment" when he is a multi millionaire... and if he was that big of a rebel why didn't he revolt against Atlantic records?

Truth is, Lu changed. I wont say he gave up, or sold out because I dont know the man but he CHANGED. And not for the good.

I will always be a fan but it will never be the same. I'll never look at Lu as a future all time great again. He's just another guy now, whining about the government trying to be deep.

Hopefully Kendrick Lamar doesn't let me down with his commercial debut album or I'll have to give up rap altogether.

  100. So Ilistened to the mix tape & honestly I don't see how folks can jump to such conclusions so quick. With anything Lupe has done, including all the early stuff pre F&L, it needs to be digested for a couple days first. But to each his or her own I suppose. Everything won't be for everybody that's just how it is.

  107. Lupe is taking us on a journey with him as he evolves and eventually becomes the best rapper ever..at the moment this is where his mind is at would you rather he gave us nothing? atleast this way we get to see the progression from humble naive o.g nerd ahead of his time having to slow down for us to catch up to super cocky kill any rapper alive MC, the thing is we have to take the journey too the music is only 50%, so inevitably some wheels will fall off the bandwagon

    ReplyDelete
  108. There's alot of pressure on him to live upto the title as the next legend and join Pac,Big,Nas,Jay-Z,Eminem. He was closer during the F&L /cool days but I'm sure he'll get there in the end.insha'allah. We beleive in you lu!!! do it for the nerds and lost generations.

  109. I don't see why people are hating on others for not liking the mixtape. It's their opinion. Who says you can't have an opinion. But Lupe does seem to have lost his drive or either he's trying to find himself.

  110. Love it, even though im fairly biased towards lupe, as in, in my eyes he'll always be insane, this is great for a free mixtape. ws hanging out for something to wash away the taste of lasers.
end of the world the last track samples a song by M83 called midnight city its an awesome song good choice by lupe.
"beautiful lasers, fans dont need a favour, this is how i repay ya"!

  111. Do all you people bitchin' really expect Lupe to spit bars that are anything like the Fahrenheit series? He was young back then, the dude had to grow up and this mixtape is 10 times better than lasers and a lot of albums that dropped this year (Carter 4). I can see how you all can say he's not trying anymore and that he doesn't have the heart cause I said the same thing, but the mixtape was still dope in my opinion.

Just wait till F&L II though, cause hopefully he'll put a lot of time and effort into it and give all of us fans something we've been waiting for.

  112. Yeah he's busy with his job. His job is to make music...so why wasn't he busy making music all that time? Anonymous you dumb shit.

No.... YOU need to stop being so emotional about it. I am a long time fan also, so stop the nonsense. we are mad at y'all because y'all are being irrational crybabies. Calling anybody that likes lupe music after 07 "fake fans". Stop being a pretentious ass fool I been a fan since the Fahrenheit mixtapes.

Also to the niggas complaining about the music, talking bout "it sucks" expand you taste in music. It's more than just hip hop out there. There is tons of great music out there in other genres of music. Stop being so confined to Hip Hop, grow some. The mixtape is dope other that the song with dosage(and I liked his verse on we beaming).

Fucking dumbass! How is it lasers left overs when none of these are his songs. They are other people songs with lupe rapping over them like on EOTS (except for SLR and Joaquin Phoenix).

damn a lot of fans are bitch made ass niggas. I hope F&L II is like this just to spite all of you whiny ass niggas. I would laugh so hard.

  113. Lupe Fiasco please contact Christopher Koelle to animate your next video. Trust me. That man is the shit. If you ever do a Food and Liquor part 2, Christopher Koelle is your man. I have never seen any of your songs done justice in the visual department, except for kick push and even that video needed some improvement.

  135. Quit bitching the beats aren't even that bad. If Lasers didn't exist everyone would think this mixtape is great.

This tape is a grower. I didn't like it at first now I think it's an 8.5/10

    ReplyDelete
  136. Locksmith > Lupe

Lu sold his soul. Most of this songs are hot garbage or old.

    ReplyDelete
  137. How can lupe make such an anti-establishment mixtape after he released a record like LASERS?

    ReplyDelete
  138. This mixtape makes me think of it more as a Lasers 2.0 more than a separate entity. Lupe spits knowledge and wisdom in EVERYTHING he raps, however this mixtape is deep. VERY DEEP. He moves fast too. VERY FAST. The complexness is almost equivalent to trying to comprehend Dumb It Down. I commend him for wanting to make a change with his lyrics and impact peoples' lives, however you cannot make a significant impact if the true meaning is extremely hard to understand. Everyone knows Lupe is lyrical, and in all aspects of the world. He has nothing to prove anymore. No need to spit a deep meaning in some kind of twisted deep metaphoric puzzle. Most people who listen to music these days, their attention span is getting shorter and shorter and people rarely listen ACTIVELY to music anymore... Dumbing it down doesn't mean you have to change the message because at the end of the day if your music has a message, make it driven by emotion and not by self-fulfilling lyricism.

Listen to Lasers again, and listen for the emotion to support his lyrics in his song. I like Lasers and everything Lasers made Lupe go through because it forced him to stop being so "super lupe lyrical" to where I had to actively listen to catch the meaning of his lyrics, but he was so worn out he went upon his emotions of frustration, anger, and depression (and any other emotions he may have felt at that time) and that made the integrity of his music on Lasers so much more enjoyable. FOTP is ok, but there is no need to impress people with being "Super Lupe Lyrical" because the phrase wouldn't include Lupe if the entire world didn't know or agree. Even people who don't like Lupe still will say "Man, he's too deep or man he's not talking about anything, when in retrospect, he is trying to convey a message that many many many people are missing because it is too hard to understand. REMEMBER, dumbing it down isn't the same as making the message easier see. Say what you need to say, enforce it with emotion and not for flashy reasons, and boom the formula for greatness. Lupe can do it...because he's done it before... and his best songs...are the ones that contain the most emotion (and i don't mean sad, depressing emotion... even though Beautiful Lasers one of my favorite songs... driven by intense amount of sadness and depression......the Show Goes On is a ridiculously phenomenal song.... simple message.. no matter what you go through... life goes on... and that sound is super uplifting and emotion-driven.)

But this is my own person opinion...
