Lupe just dropped some new-new via Twitter! The track he raps over is "Nightcall" by Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx which was produced by Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo.
Remember guys, anyone who hates on this is just speaking in opposites. Thats the code. The beat was wack but the the lyrics were interesting/ easy to listen to.
Lupe Fiasco is the best lyricist I've ever heard only people that compare are Rakim or Nas. But what kills me is these beats. Thats the only thing at this point in his career that people complain about. We all know he's great lyricist but I wanna hear him on Hip Hop beats again....
It's not about beats. Music is music. Those aren't just "beats" if you take them away from Lupe's vocals, they are musical compositions from another artist group that call it music. So, accept music as music instead of dividing and singling out hip hop as the only musical background a rapper can use to display a message. It takes art and creativity to find new ways to express. It is called creative growth.
Free Music... Great Lyrics... Smart Beat if you know where it came from & an all around great song. Keep doing what u doin Lu... Niggas wanna put u over some Blaze orTimbaland...Maybe some more Ye or P... They want you to be Jay-Z... betta let these niggas know who the real MC is.. " Watch tha Throne as I Dance in tha chair..."
yo this isnt even a lot of double entendres. just go on rapgenius and read the lyrics as the song plays. It's not even CLOSE to his denser songs in terms of packed in hidden meaning...
its just a story telling song. SMH if you dont understand this shit.
MANNN THIS BEAT is trash Lupe if you want to go electro do it the right way and partner with people who are exemplary in that genre you choice of beats are just horrendous so bad that its hard to even block it out in order to hear your thought provoking lyrics. If im in the zone in a rave im not thinking about the occupy movement. Lupe just partner with one professional producer and develop chemistry with them (like soundtrack) this is such a step down from the original American terrorist. I was soo excited for FOTP but it was a huge disappointment to all the faggots who sat atleast the lyrics are good a rap song need more than just lyrics I rather he just go accapella because its too hard for me to listen to waslu
To the haters of the beat: Have you thought that maybe the beat reflects what he's saying? I think the mood of his lyrics depicts the beat well. They can't all be the same poppy crap. At least he's experimenting and keeping things fresh.
First of all, this is a song that was on the movie drive he picked. It's by daft punk so stop all the pick a professional bullshit. He is allowed to make different music. Stop with this "music for the hood" bullshit. Fuck the hood, they just burn CDs. If an artist doesn't evolve they will just disappear. If you don't like it go listen to his old shit! Your a lupe fan, so stop being closed minded. Because heis a huge fan of different music so don't expect only hip hop.
Not as good as the original American Terrorist but this right here is telling a story, plain and simple. It doesn't need double or triple entendres to tell the story, it's a simple story that's still true to his roots.
Fuck the "hood" shit, Lu hasn't done anything remotely hood since Fahrenheit 1 and 2. If you want that then they're still there for you to listen to.
Just wanna let u guys no.....LUPE ISNT EVEN A BIG FAN OF HIP-HOP!!!! He likes other shit to like techno, rock, jazz, & a bunch of other genres we've never even heard of.... Just cuz he's a rapper doesn't mean he's only in2 rap music!
It's funny how people keep poppin this old Lupe/hip hop beat nonsense like he never made-
"Hello/Goodbye" "The Instrumental" "Go Baby" "Streets on Fire" "Fighters"
And you could argue a few more from his first two albums dumb asses lol. And honestly Lupe his shown improvement every album even on Lasers. Now he has the punchlines and flare that you get with Wayne/Kanye/Jay-Z, to go with the complex metaphors.
why cant lupe just go back to spiting incredible lyrics off of a hip hop beat. i dont mind the beat, but compared to classic lupe songs this doesnt compare. this flow isnt very good he needs to go back to lupe flow, and telling stories like the cool. enough is enough, really, i really miss the old lupe, i like change but to an extent. dont fix something that isnt broken
Insert comment about how it doesn't compare to older material ......... ........ ......... ........ Insert comment about how it's growing on you ......... ........ ......... ........ ......... Insert comment about how great it is ......... ........ ......... Move on to next new Lupe song to repeat the process
If i had the time I could go back to different forums in 2007 talkin shit about the cool, and how wack it was and how Food & Liquor was way better. Shit even F&L vs the leaked version. lol
Fans are fickle. It's no secret. They contrive what THEY want something to be in their heads and when it is not returned in a most-to-full state they bitch and moan instead of giving it a shot.
Hey, INSTRUMENTAL complainers: The song has a boom and bap style. WTF is the issue with this song? This song has much more in common with "hip hop beats" than anything on FOTP (besides SLR I suppose). It must be the strange computer vocal or the sick 80's-like riffs in the background that makes your "it ain't hood" nerve twitch violently.
Seriously, stop whining. It's FREE music (like, literally free, not illegally free) by THE best emcee in the game right now.
Im not even gonna read the comments, i've loved Night Call ever since i heard it in The Lincoln Lawyer.lol Sooooo yea... havent heard this song yet but im being bias already. sorry lol
Imagine the lyrics/story on some sort of 90's Hip Hop beat. It wouldn't be the same.
Like somebody else already said, it matches the track well. It's sad how many people have been conditioned by the industry to freak out if they hear a beat that doesn't sound exactly like 99% of the other shit that's being played. As soon as some of these wack niggas out there come out with simple drum beats the same crowd goes crazy. *facepalm*
Atlantic didn't do anything to Lupe. He has always liked the kind of beats he uses now of days. It's just that now he is experimenting with the sound in his music. Think back to the collaborations he has done with Unkle. For example the runaway.
Yo I personally think the beat is dope. Lu raps to the instrumental he's goin over and this one has a low, deep vibe to it so he writes to it with the same vibe. Like his song, the coolest, the instrumental is hella freakin dark and his lyrics go deep. Stop hatin.
First of all the majority of people on this forum like Lupe otherwise you wouldn't be here.
That being said If lupe makes a track which doesn't reach the very high bar that he's set himself, dont lick his balls simply because he made it. Be HONEST with yourself. Personally i thought this track was average by his standards. I know that not all his tracks are going to have double entendras and metaphors but i do think his music as a whole isn't what it used to be.
Go back and listen to 'Trials and tribulations' 'Fahrenheit 1/15 pt1 and 2' 'Muhammed Walks' those are some mixtapes. The reason I began to listen in the first place.
So when people are saying Lupe is different or not as lyrical dont get all defensive but at the same time he some of his more recent stuff is still good like, double burger with cheese, SLR etc.
Alot of what he's saying has to do with his LepEND plan. Remember it? He was gonna retire after that third album...
Goddamn, my man had this whole thing planned out. It was a genius plan (Fuck Atlantic Records)
Anyway, I'm sure this track was written YEARS AGO. Lupe has LOTS of shit left over from the LupEND plan. I guess he had to release this now because this song could never be released in context (his plan was ruined)
I don't get the haters btw.. Grow of guys. Use your mind, nothing Lupe ever releases is just for face value :)
Cosign Criggz Those of you that always say "this is the last straw" or "im done with lupe" for every song seem to be the first ones to hear the new stuff he drops. Logical? More like self-deception
Looking @ the previous comments honestly ever1 is making a good point. I FCKIN LOVE LU, but we can all admit that his sound did change (not that it sounds bad) but thats wat Lupe wants, we can't blame Atlantic for FOTP & I feel like that whole situation w/ soulja gay boy, made Lu wanna switch up a little, but I could be wrong.
"Listen to the words people say in their lyrics, and tell me, if that's some real shit, if that's real to you, you know what I mean. Listen to what they sayin', don't just bob your head to the beat, peep the game"
-Dre's The Chronic is ALL Bootsy & P-Funk. 3 words BAD BOY RECORDS. u show me a "hip-hop" beat & i'll show u samples frm EVERY musical genre! -I MAKE hip-hop...so hip-hop is what I say it is...NOT what YOU think I should make it be...if you no likey iTunes is filled w/ other options -AND IF YOU CAN DO BETTER MY NIGGA DONT TWEET ME SAYING YOU CAN SEND THAT LITTLE TRACK OF YOURS TO RAPRADAR or @HIPHOPDX AND JOIN THE PARTY!
This song is basically rapped from 3 perspectives (sort of like he say she say). The first verse is the soldier; the second verse is his daughter (or son); the third verse is his wife. From begining to end, everything ties together perfectly (even the chorus helps tie in to the story). Also pay attention to his emphasis on speaking in opposites. It really comes into play at the end of the last verse. A part of the song that may have a double meaning is towards the end @4:13-4:34. This part not only relates to the story's main character but also Lupe himself. I don't have that much of a problem with people disliking this song because it doesn't fit your musical tastes but you got to admit this song really shows off Lupe's song writing abilities and his ability to tell a story.
real hip hop is on the streets and in the clubs, where people are actually enjoying it. it snot in some dudes mums basement where some pretencious loser is listening to it trying to use it to justify how smart he thinks he is. hes the only one not getting it.
yall self proclaimed "hip hop heads" are the ones killing the game, policing its borders and trapping it in a box. u say u want change? tha fuck outta here, if anythin changes u btich and scream till ur head explodes.
I love this song. I'm glad he does different beats that's what seperate him from these other commercial artist. And his lyrics are crazy. Love it, Love it.
"This song is basically rapped from 3 perspectives (sort of like he say she say). The first verse is the soldier; the second verse is his daughter (or son); the third verse is his wife. From begining to end, everything ties together perfectly (even the chorus helps tie in to the story). Also pay attention to his emphasis on speaking in opposites."
I think that's also a great interpretation of the song.
Lupe's storytelling tracks are always a little more difficult to interpret. It's hard to be sure a 100% of the time what he means. And I think this song is even more badass than his other recent songs due to the fact that he's highlighting the concept of "opposites." Lines likes "Remember always speak in opposites" "He said that you gotta act in opposites" and "This account is hacked" all make me want to interpret the lyrics differently. If you got back and make some of the lyrics opposite it gives a whole other meaning the the song. But maybe I'm looking too much into it.
I see alot of people saying Lupe is a great "man". You dont know HIM as a person..He is a rapper. I seen in an interview where he called HIMSELF a "revolutionary figure"...excuse me? Not only is that pretentious, arrogant, ignorant, and one of the dumbest things ive ever heard, but it speaks to what he thinks of himself and his music. His ego has consumed him to the point where he cant do any wrong. By the way all of us like Lupe for the morality he represents in his music. RECENTLY...especially his recent twitter explosion shows the fallacy of "man", you cant call yourself "GREAT" as a person. Thats only for God to determine. Lupe even said it himself. Honestly im not even concerned with his music per se. No, i dont like anything post-Lasers. Yes he has dumbed down his lyrics, yes he has conformed (everything he said he was against)..but now him as a person it seems is turning for the worst. He is a man, before he is an artist
Lupe is a prime example of an artist who has a crew of "yes men" in his camp. No in his crew has told him that his music isnt good. Why do u think that santos, gemstones, or soundtrakk are all of a sudden not mentioned or were on Lasers? you tell me. They were on his first two great albums?...go ahead and blame atlantic. He has BEEN on atlantic.
At the end of the day that man is an artist. Now how would y'all feel if he was a painter and he kept painting the same picture all the time. Artist have to evolve or de-volve or whatever your opinion may be to match that creative process to CREATE ART!
Ppl complaining about the beat.who cares.all these rappers using "pop" beats then drake uses "R&B" beats n ppl dont get on them. I think we're past the age of "oh hes a rapper so he has to use a hip hop beat". honestly its tougher making songs on other beats.then some of you guys complaining its not the "old lupe".its a dam story.its about terriosts that blows himself up.first verse is his perspective, the 2nd is his brothers and the 3rd verse is another terriost that isnt related to them.so it is creative concept wise but not as lyrical cause he wants you to follow the story.
You know I wasnt feeling some of the beat selection on FOTP (mostly Lupe back, since it starts off so damn abrasive to me ears) but Im really feeling this
This was the guys theme song in "Drive" as well right? Fucking dope
I got to agree with H though. It's not really about the beats for me, it's more about the mind stimulating presentation of his songs. And how does it make someone less of a fan, if they don't agree with the artists choices. Similar to when Michael Jackson came out with "Thriller" or "Off the Wall", classic albums. Then he came out with his 2000 era stuff and it was lame. He was trying to do something different. You know he can do better than that.
alot of you are bashing lupe right now, and its because you just honestly dont understand the song, ignore the beat listen to the song reallllllly listen it goes deep actually, much more then alot of his songs, remember "he said you gotta act in opposites, helps you hide your tracks when you stand up to the dominant", just saying Lol
Im still trying to figure out where American Terrorist 2 went?? I can only assume its on FL2?
ReplyDeletethe beat sucks, but the song is dope
ReplyDeleteSong is Nightcall - Kavinsky from the Drive OST
ReplyDeleteWow a surprise Lu you're my personal brand if crack thank you for an early present
ReplyDeleteRemember guys, anyone who hates on this is just speaking in opposites. Thats the code. The beat was wack but the the lyrics were interesting/ easy to listen to.
ReplyDeleteYou know whose lyrics are easy to listen to? Gucci & Waka.

ReplyDeleteIt's free music from a great artist. Shut the fuck up.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but if you don't see a major lyrical difference between this and Food & Liquor or The Cool, you're the one who isn't listening.
ReplyDeleteLike Jay-Z once questioned "Do you fools listen to music, or do you just skim through it?"
ReplyDeleteya all needa expand your horizons.
ReplyDeletehip hop ain't the only type of music out there...

This is hot. If you want underground beats, go listen to underground artists on datpiff.

ReplyDelete4real

Why do u think that santos, gemstones, or soundtrakk are all of a sudden not mentioned or were on Lasers? you tell me. They were on his first two great albums?...go ahead and blame atlantic. He has BEEN on atlantic.
ReplyDeleteWish this was on an original beat made from scratch but doesn't matter, dope Lupe #1 artist
ReplyDelete..... lupe is the real deal...forever n always
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the day that man is an artist. Now how would y'all feel if he was a painter and he kept painting the same picture all the time. Artist have to evolve or de-volve or whatever your opinion may be to match that creative process to CREATE ART!
ReplyDeletePpl complaining about the beat.who cares.all these rappers using "pop" beats then drake uses "R&B" beats n ppl dont get on them.
ReplyDeleteYou know I wasnt feeling some of the beat selection on FOTP (mostly Lupe back, since it starts off so damn abrasive to me ears) but Im really feeling this
ReplyDeleteThis was the guys theme song in "Drive" as well right? Fucking dope
For those wondering... "Words I Never Said" is the most likely candidate for American Terrorist II. At least in my opinion.
ReplyDelete^ oh yea good point, but Lu woulda said if it was...
ReplyDeleteYo if you want the interview http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWyPFDzqBwc. Go to around 3:53 mark.
ReplyDeleteI got to agree with H though.

ReplyDeletealot of you are bashing lupe right now, and its because you just honestly dont understand the song, ignore the beat listen to the song reallllllly listen it goes deep actually, much more then alot of his songs, remember "he said you gotta act in opposites, helps you hide your tracks when you stand up to the dominant", just saying Lol
