Well, that was fast. Pete Rock just went on Twitter and said the following:
I just got off da phone lupe, we worked out our differences and we bout to get it in. Gonna be epic and we gonna give Troy and hev the proper respect they deserve and make history with lupe.
Hopefully a collaboration comes out of this sooner than later. Simonsayz, co-producer of "Around My Way", also took to Twitter and addressed the situation:
1st and last time I will speak on this... The interprelation of @PeteRock's Troy was never meant to offend. To be honest, it wasn't something that I asked or even jumped at the opportunity to do. I'm much happier to bring my own original ideas to the ears of music lovers, of which I have plenty coming out this year.
However, sometimes in this business it's hard legally to get clearance to utilize samples or original tracks. The record was written over the Troy beat and Lu's camp felt strongly that it needed to stay there. I thought what Lu wrote was incredible and relevant to this day and age and that it was a dope juxtaposition over such an iconic beat.
Lu and his camp are my family so when I was asked, not only did me and my partner say yes, We stepped up to the plate without an ego and painstakingly did our absolute best to stay true to the original without trying to flip or put our own spin. BTW, just saw Pete's latest tweet about call w/Lu... Glad u worked it out. Didn't know you had an issue with Lu, tho... Thought it was all on me and my partner!!! LOL.... Peace, Blessings and mad respect.

nice!!!
ReplyDeletehopefully we'll see a collabo on Disc 2.
Hmph... I'm still salty at Pete Rock for how he handled it but I'll get over it soon...
ReplyDeleteSome tracks should be left alone T.R.O.Y is 1 of those said tracks all time classic maybe the greatest hip-hop record of all time.
ReplyDeletePeace
Maybe you suckas should go find out the meaning behind the T.R.O.Y joint and then you might just understand why it's a highly sensitive issue . . .
ReplyDeleteNigga we know the meaning behind that song but to say it untouchable is stupid.
ReplyDeleteAlso you niggas bitching about isn't gonna stop niggas from rapping over that song. Tons of MC's rapped over that instrumental since it came out.
You can't stop a rapper from rapping over a song that they love/like.
@REALTALK
ReplyDelete***"BISHOP or any other of you ignorant ass fools cussin Pete Rock a.k.a one of the greatest producers of all time need to get the fuck out and off Lupe's balls man.
Seriously fuck outta here with that disrespectful bullshit he one of the most important iconic figures in hip-hop period !"***
You are the one that needs to hop off Pete's DICK.
Lupe is the greatest rapper to ever put pen on paper and breath on mic. Lu is the GOAT. Lu himself is iconic.
Lupe Fiasco as a rapper > Pete Rock as a producer, FACT.
You need to stop disrespecting Lu aka the one of the greatest rappers of all time. Lupe is single-handedly keeping hip-hop from being nothing but a genre of club tracks.
Lupe did justice on the track. That is all Lupe does. He always murders the track. Stop disrespecting him like he's Lil Wayne, Drake, or Nicki Minaj. Real Talk.
Can a song really be considered a "remake" though if Lupe used his own lyrics and flipped the message of the song to be completely different from TROY?
ReplyDeletewhat is hev
