After the success of "Battle Scars" in Australia it's just been announced via Lupe's Twitter that it'll be featured on FNL2 and that it's going to be the next single, dropping on Aug. 28th.
Form Follows Function and How Dare You have been pushed back, with Form Follows Function being a single that will drop after the album release.
I agree, B.S.(Get it, Bullshiiit and Battle Scars) I thought it was Guy's song. Plus, I wanted FFF earlier and I already have Battle Scars so there will be no point in waiting for August 28th now when it comes to Lupe's music. Oh well, I like the song, so I'm glad it will be on his album.
But it is sort of strategical for Lupe, but would the usual Lupe put it on this album just because it reached Number one in Australia. I hope that is not the only reason, but still, it is sort of strategical.
he never said the whole album will be on america. If you watch his interviews he says the concept is on america because it is the great AMERICAN rap album but it is also the great american RAP album so he has songs that are just rapping..not on america.
I thought f&l2 wasn't about selling records and being on the radio? I thought it was for the hardcore og nerdy Lupe fans? We don't want this in the album.
I know Lupe said that F&LII was mostly about America but he clearly was going to have other tracks on there, including Go To Sleep. Battle Scars may have already been on the album but wasn't planned as a single until it had success. No problem with that. Even if it is being added now because of success, there shouldn't be a problem and it shouldn't take away from what should be a great album. The song isn't bad itself and Lupe may even have other verses for it, maybe not.
I am certainly fine with criticizing artists about their music choices but some of the above critiques seem to lack constructive substance and probably do not even come from real Lupe fans. That is especially true of the "Gay Sebastian" comment. Seriously? That comment only shows your immaturity and stupidity.
I'm looking forward to F&LII. Peace and much love to ya!
If Lupe wants it on the album, then it's on the album. It's a pretty powerful song that Lu obviously has a strong connection to. The fact that it went number 1 in Australia only helps things. Maybe it'll do that again in America. Maybe not. Don't think it has a whole lot to do with the record label to be honest. Y'all should support Lupe's personal decisions and not bitch like a bunch of kids. An album can have different tracks for different facets of his audience.
As more people like Battle Scars in Australia and want to know about this guy "Lupe Fiasco" rapping along to Guy, Lupe has then thought aah well I do have a new album coming out. Why not give those type of fans an album with their favourite song on it,
At the end of the day it s about money. And Lupe himself has admitted that he needs to fund his ferrari collection!
I cant see how this is anything but great news for both artists.
Battlescars is shaping up to be #1 again this week all around Australia.
It may have been Guy Sebastian's project but their colloboration has produced this amazing radio friendly song that will bring them new audiences from unexpected places and also help promote their upcoming album releases.
I hope with the addition of Battle Scars, Lu does not take out another song that was originally supposed to be on F&L2. This might be the only radio friendly track on the album so I understand why he decided to put it in. Just as long no other song gets replaced. More the better.
I have no problem with Lupe wanting Battle Scars on the album after seeing the success it has in Australia. Every album since The Cool has had a top ten single. I've been wondering when Lu was going to release single that will get the push ala The Shows Goes and Out of My Head. Turns out it's a single that isn't even Lupe's and wasn't even planned to be on the album, it's funny how things play out.
My only problem is that Lupe said that it ISN'T about being on the radio one second and then on the next second he turns around and pushes the highly anticipated Form Follows Function back in favor for a song that IS about being on the radio, LOL.
It is what it is at the end of the day. It's not like Battle Scars is club track or a song without substance or anything so it's all good. I just don't like Lu backing tracking like that.
THE THINK IS EVERYBODY OUTSIDE OF LUPE'S DIEHARD FANS THINKS LUPE "SOLDOUT" AND IF THEY HEAR THIS, HE CHATTER WILL BEGIN AGAIN..ITS JUST DISTASTEFUL RIGHT NOW
This song has so much substance and "has nothing to do with America" think about the state of America and how it leaves people feeling and tell me this song has nothing to do with America....Smh y'all get so emotional this song is dope.
I'm actually surprised at how intelligent the conversation has been on this page up until now (excluding maybe the guy who gets off on called a dude Gay Sebastian) - but Lupe fans have always been a slightly more cerebral group than the rest.
Take it from someone who's met the guy. Lupe is a conflicted personality. As smart as he is, he DOES go back and forth on things. He's impressively bright, very socially aware, well read, and surprisingly 'ghetto hiphop' in a lot of noticeable ways. That's why people like him. He's layered and complex. Shit he does wont always make perfect sense. I'm just glad he writes like a crazy man, and knows how to make a good rap joint.
The intelligence left the room with that last comment. Let's get some Lupe fans in here that have respect, maturity, and know what they are talking about.
Since when did lupe fans care about record charts instead of quality music? Battle scars sucks. It sounds like a song that belongs on Lasers not F&L2. Battle scars is bubblegum pop music. F&L is supposed to be going back to hip hop, away from the pop sound of Lasers and making songs for his old fans, but battle scars is neither. And its already a song for somebody else album.
I agree with lu with this one. I love every single he has put out for f&l2 but if u think about it Lupe himself said that his content balances out the state of hip hop, but if u think about f&life needs to be a little more balanced as well. So far every single song is a socially politicaly charged song. Except go to sleep. I love those songs, but if u think about the old Lupe that everybody loved was a balanced guy. Every song he put out back then wasn't a politicaly socially charged song. Imo
Agreed! I have no problem at all with Battle Scars being on the album. He always has atleast 1 radio type of song on every album so I don't see what some people are complaining about..
While I liked Battle Scars and think it will get a lot of radio play, I am dissappointed that the other songs were pushed back. It seems like a business/label decision to through out Battle Scars now because it is a hit in Australia, so that they can get some attention for F&L2 before it comes out. I really hope it isn't a part of the album though unless it is a bonus track or something like that because it wouldn't fit with the deeper songs that have been released so far.
I'm happy they got pushed back because I was kind of hoping they would be. He said "Form Follows Function" was a monster and nobody was touching that so I wouldn't want to hear the best of the album before the album comes out. Save the best for the actual album.
Battle Scars is a dope track that is going to crank heavily live! Lupe has always made music for a wide range of people. Respect the decisions he makes with his music. Real Fans will allow him to make moves, last minute changes and adjustments without criticizing a product that is not yet finished. To be completely honest, for all you Super Lupe Fans, What Artist with commercial success puts out better music that Lu!? Stop complaining if there is nothing to even compare him to! Cannot believe the homie is catching backlash for putting a #1 song on his album!!! What!?! Not to mention Australia is one of his favorite places to visit and perform...smh Lu won't disappoint on this one. The album is going to be Insane! Battle Scars just means more will purchase and more will hear the message he has been teaching since the mixtapes! Stay Tuned...FNF UP!!!!
Calling people ungrateful because they're complaining about a song is stupid Lupe makes a product that he, in turn, sells to us, the fans. As with any product, if we're going to spend our hard-earned money on it, it should be up to our standards. If you buy a candy bar and think it tastes like shit, nobody is going to say "You're so ungrateful! At least they're making candy bars, and think about all the other good candy bars they've made".
Especially since when I'd guess that a much higher percentage of Lupe fans actually buy the albums and go to shows than fans of other artists
Well its doing well over there so props to him. But I get the feeling it wont be as sucessful in the states. Unless he adds a verse or something. I liked the track but, its lacking. What I dont know. I doubt he had much of a say so in the matter anyways. So don't be mad at him about the pushbacks.
For all the haters of Battle Scars, here is what you do when you purchase the album. Skip the track. Easy as that.
Oh and Lupe has said in numerous interviews that The Great American Rap Album Part 1 has songs on American history (hence 'American' in the title), and the other songs are just purely rappin'. All rappity rap rap rap type stuff with a bunch of metaphors and double entendres. Get your facts straight.
On the first day of release Battle Battle Scars immediately went to #1 on iTunes and then 1 week later, Battlescars debuted #1 all around Australia and in its second week it is still killing it at #1 on the offical ARIA charts. ARIA has accredited it with actual GOLD sales - pretty impressive for a small population country! If it does as well as this internationally - good times for Guy and Lupe!
I just can't associate a track like this with the name "Food & Liquor." Doesn't sound right to me. I hope this is the only song of its kind on the album.
Ill be dissapointed if he doesn't add more verses.. if not ill live
ReplyDeleteI like it.
ReplyDeleteI thinking this is a WIN for Lu
I agree, B.S.(Get it, Bullshiiit and Battle Scars) I thought it was Guy's song. Plus, I wanted FFF earlier and I already have Battle Scars so there will be no point in waiting for August 28th now when it comes to Lupe's music. Oh well, I like the song, so I'm glad it will be on his album.

ReplyDeleteBut not for F&L2......
It has nothing to do with the great AMERICAN rap album

he never said the whole album will be on america. If you watch his interviews he says the concept is on america because it is the great AMERICAN rap album but it is also the great american RAP album so he has songs that are just rapping..not on america.
DeleteIf u watch the interviews closely he said part 1 is about America "threw his eyes" & part 2 in al rap rap rapditty
DeleteHe said they were both a mixture of both. "Go To Sleep" is in Part 1 and it has nothing to do with America
DeleteGuess he can't please his loving fans. Y'all super ungreatful. FNF 2 THE CLOUDS! Let's go Lu!
ReplyDeleteatlantic records..what else...
ReplyDelete$$$$$$
Agreed
DeleteHmmm...oh well. Hopefully nothing else changes... :\
ReplyDeleteFor a radio song tho, battle scars is pretty good!
Wait how can FFF be a single after the album is released? Won't it just be one of the songs on the album at that point?
ReplyDeleteNah dude... I thought that song was for Gay Sebastian. Lupe's parts were so cool, but GAY has one gay voice :|
ReplyDeleteI thought f&l2 wasn't about selling records and being on the radio? I thought it was for the hardcore og nerdy Lupe fans? We don't want this in the album.
ReplyDeleteI've been staring at Battle Scars for a week on this blog now I wake up to this...And I think lupe wanted this too. Nigga got excited bout a #1 single
ReplyDeleteThis whole thing is too serious
ReplyDeleteI know Lupe said that F&LII was mostly about America but he clearly was going to have other tracks on there, including Go To Sleep. ReplyDeleteI'd this album doesn't have more than 15 tracks, I'll be disappointed.

I can only hope this will be a bonus track, it's a nice song. Just not what I was expecting on this album.
