not surprised. The marketing push behind this album was completely awful. I mean Lasers had a huge push, but this, no. Cant use controversy to sell albums alone, if that's what their plan was. No wonder artists go the pop route.

ReplyDeleteExactly. I don't listen to the radio much, but I heard The Show Goes On quite a bit on the radio before Lasers released. I have yet to hear any song from F&LII on the radio. Goes to show Atlantic doesn't give a shit about the sales on this album.
The zombie population eats up pop culture. If you're not on constant rotation on the radio or MTV/BET/FUSE/VH1, your sales just don't compare. It's sad.
While I haven't heard any F&L II records on the radio I do see his videos from the album get some play on the MTV channels.

ReplyDeleteYeah, you're right. I have seen Around My Way and Bitch Bad on occasion on the MTV channels too. But not nearly as much as I saw The Show Goes On.

ReplyDeleteIts not that suprising since none of the singles he put out (bar battle scars) was for radio. These are numbers for a real album. Both Lupe and Atlantic woulda known the numbers would be a lot less than lasers

LASERS was HEAVILY marketed. Not did Lu have a 10 ten single in TSGO, songs on his albums was marketed on ESPN. They played Break The Chain a lot on that channel and gave word on the release date on the album. I was hoping that the album would debut on #1.

I don't wanna speak too soon, but I personally feel this album is a friggen classic! especially when one compares this to the hip hop thats out there now. Cold War??? like damn that track is COLD!! like the singles aside this album is GOLD. for its message as well as the vibe.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I would've liked to see on this album was a "goin in" track. I mean a track that displays his rapid flow. like on Go Go Gadget Flow, The Die, the Science Project, or Dont Get it Twisted.
