Lupe's album "Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album, Pt. 1" is nominated for a Grammy in the category "Best Rap Album." It's going against "Take Care," "Life Is Good," "Undun," "God Forgives, I Don't" and "Based On A T.R.U. Story."
The ceremony will take place on Sunday, February 10th at the Staples Center in LA.
Completly agree! Now way to disagree cuz he's like the ONLY rapper i make myself listen to, lyric by lyric, word by word. He has the dopest shyt out there!
Lupe's my masn. Every album he's nominated but only Food & Liquor I won anything. Maybe the sequel will finally make him a multi-grammy award winner. How do you vote for the grammy's anyway?
This is all bought and paid for! If you listened to Lupe compared to 1 minute of all this other crap, he'd win unanimously. I mean, just think, Lil Wayne is a Grammy winner, that right there tells you they never listened to a second of the CD!
If Drake's album wasn't on this then it would be unconvincingly Lupe's Grammy, Nas album was underwelming in caparison so I mos def don't see him winning over Lupe, Ross album was the least memorable ,and even though he's hot right now, 2Chainz will not win, If Take Care wins then I'm cool with it, it was a really decent album and the production was better than Lupe's, I feel Drake is underrated and if Take Care wins then it's well deserved BUT I WANT Lupe to win this so he's pretty much the underdog.
MOST PEOPLE PUT LIFE IS GOOD over F&L2.......ONLY LUPE FANS THOUGHT THE ALBUM WAS BETTER. I'm a huge fan of both but Nas album is better put together, better production, got more critical acclaim, and sold more...
Selling more doesn't make it better and Atlantic barely promoted FNL2, Nas always sells anyway, the thing is that Nas could have done ALOT better with Life Is Good, his track with Mary J is worst than Heart Donor. Summer On Smash, Cherry Wine (the better one out of the 3) and You Wouldn't Understand were just out of place songs for Nas, it was better produced than FNL2 but not that much better IMO, Lupe had a bigger impact with this album and it had a better message than Nas's, not hating, got both albums but I saw myself going back to Lupe's more.
F&L2 is better than Life is Good. Life is good is definitely a solid effort but comes off as underwhelming given that you expect better from Nas.
I agree that if Take care wasn't nominated that Lu would win his first Grammy for an album, but Take Care has the popularity, sales, reviews, and press to back it up. If Lu were to win it'll be seen as Drake getting "snubbed."
trust me though man. Only folks on Lupe's sites are really saying this.. the general masses in the hip hop community didn't gravitate to F&L2 like yall did. That album didn't have the impact like you think it did. Yes Atlantic didnt promote it enough and the album is solid. A Step up from Lasers but alot of people weren't fully satisfied with the album. It wasn't the classic everybody was expecting. Its just a solid album but Lupe is still capable of making that album that will blow shit out the water. The crown of rap album of the year goes to Good Kid Maad City
Yeah true but you can mos def say the exact same about Life Is Good, but FNL2 had some shit behind it before coming out like the Pete Rock situation, Lupe not voting and Lupe talking about retiring, Bitch Bad and Around My Way were on the radio a lot more as well so more people knew about this album coming out than Life Is Good other than the "true Hip Hop" heads that'll buy Nas's shit whenever. But like I said, even though Life Is Good was better produced, it still felt empty compared to FNL2 and was just underwhelming overall, I felt Nas should have done better as I thought Lupe should have done better with FNL2.
Drake will probably get it, unfortunately. I hope Lupe pulls this one out, if not him I would also really like The Roots to take it. Undun was spectacular.
Any other occasion, I would give Lupe the nod hands down. But F&L II wasn't up to his first two albums (althought it is still very, very good), and Life is Good gets better with every listen.
I think the two albums are just about equal. Lupe was probably as good lyrically as he ever was (pure lyrics/wordplay). But like someone above me stated, Life is Good is very well put together and the production is better (plus Nas is himself).
Should be a great race. Both albums are defnintely worthy. Since the actual Grammy will probably go to Drake, we should vote on this blog.
This was probably the best conversation that I've read on this blog. Though it's not fully in depth it's for the most part entirely focused on music lol
I would be totally satisfied if Lupe, Nas, or The Roots win this award. Out of those nominated in this category, they are the only ones I listen to.
Drake, I have nothing against him, other than I don't like the sound of his voice. He sounds auto-tuned to me. So I can't say I do or don't like his talent, since I've never really got past the sound of his voice.
2Chainz, just sucks. He has no substance to his songs. Just the same old drugs, bling, guns, 'b*tches', etc.
Rick Ross, what a fraud. If he wins I'm going to riot. This fat ass needs to change his name. I hope the real Rick Ross wins his lawsuit and forces this former corrections officer to change his name, or better yet, quit the rap game.
Why is 2Chainz even nominated???? I hate the fact that he and others like him are becoming more and more popular when they all KNOWINGLY spread lies, negativity, and unconventional behavior. Why would anyone even THINK to say some shit like "bury me inside the Gucci stoa"? I mean really. WTF???!!
we need the indie rappers to sign to labels so they would get nominated .. you leave the field for the commercial they will get more and more popular ..
^ its not about popularity. I don't think indie rappers are concerned about grammy's to begin with. Talent, along side the message and creavity are the only things that truly matter, or at least that's how it should be. The people appreciate good music. Lol@ the commercial
I dont know what the hell yall talking about... The Cool is my Fav project but I can't even deny that FNL2 is almost as good as that... aside from my bias-ness, you are coming to expect way too much from him to the point that when a perfect project is in your face you shun in hopes of something that is literally just like the project you aren't paying attention to..
The Carter III was wack as fuck. I don't know what you're talking about but Lupe does deserve to win for all of the hard work and honesty that he puts in to his projects. Wasalu is the best. End of story. : )
So what your saying is his whole life revolves around women... lol Even his first album was about women.. women and getting into the industry like damn nigga be an artist and rap about real shit not the typical commercial rap context that we hear every damn day. Like you talkin about women in every song my g? Everyone has those songs about relationships, but then they have the rest of the album.. lol drake lacks diversity. Talk about something that matters. It doesn't even have to be super conscious but shit let it be something other than hip hop cliche', thats not art to me. But then again like the many comments ahead of me it's all about the commercial aspect of music in this industry. It just sucks cuz the majority ONLY see that aspect and their not even aware of how mass the genre of hip hop is. Plus it also makes people who doesn't really listen to hip hop automatically wave it off as destructive and unintelligent. Which personally offends me because I still see the movement that hip hop stands for.
Dude he can talk about whatever he rap about real life situations. Nigga talkin down can YOU spit? Get back with all that wrecklesness bruh. Ugh you niggas is distgusting, so this Lupe blog so what dam put in work get some pull THEN speak
Lupe is too much for this category. Everybody has an opinion but we all know the truth. Some of you guys are so negative and try to mask it with friendliness and supposed creativity thinking ppl are fooled just like a lot of these rappers do its hilarious at times. Knowledgable ppl understand the game and divert their attention to more positive aspects. Only then does the negativity die out. If its no good for you and you don't like it cut it off you don't have to listen.
I'd love to work with him... He's an amazing artist I really hope he wins he deserves to.. And he cook? What's his mailing address so I can write him and tell him myself. I think he'd like that.
He's going to win. They nominated him for a reason, because Food and Liquor part 2 was not his best work, it had no hits, no jams. But it had substance, especially compared to other rap albums. I think they're rewarding him for his overall body of work, from the first Food and Liquor( which he won nothing for in 2007)to now. He is going to win.
Glory, glory.
ReplyDeleteHonestly I didn't hear any of the other albums but I hope he wins this time
ReplyDeleteLupe for the win!!
ReplyDeleteSo happy for him well deserved
He will win! Think positive...
ReplyDeleteI hope lupe wins.. It's long overdue... The cool should have won one.
ReplyDeleteCompletly agree! Now way to disagree cuz he's like the ONLY rapper i make myself listen to, lyric by lyric, word by word. He has the dopest shyt out there!
DeleteIt's gonna be a tough one to win. I think The Roots' undun is a good contender.
ReplyDeleteIt's between lupe Nas and the roots
ReplyDeleteNo Kendrick?
ReplyDeleteI don't think he'll win, I want him to.. But nah, the grammys are a load of bull**** anyway.
ReplyDeleteThat beyonce b*** wins EVERY f***** year. And ALL her songs are EXACTLY the same! :o
why she gotta be a b word? sheesh
ReplyDeleteLupe's my masn. Every album he's nominated but only Food & Liquor I won anything. Maybe the sequel will finally make him a multi-grammy award winner. How do you vote for the grammy's anyway?
ReplyDeleteand its rap album last time I checked beyonce' didn't rap
ReplyDeleteand its rap album last time I checked beyonce' didn't rap
ReplyDeleteI hope he wins too!!! But they will probably pick Drake, because it's really a popularity contest, but who knows. I hope I'm wrong though...
ReplyDeleteKendrick is not eligible for these Grammys cause his album dropped after the deadline.
ReplyDeleteSuper Happy For Lu, Its Some Big Competition In This Category...But It Still Is Amazing News!
ReplyDeleteThen why is the roots on there their project droPped after good kid maad city
ReplyDeleteUndun came out in 2011
DeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteI love you!
DeleteThis is all bought and paid for! If you listened to Lupe compared to 1 minute of all this other crap, he'd win unanimously. I mean, just think, Lil Wayne is a Grammy winner, that right there tells you they never listened to a second of the CD!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call the roots or nas crap.... at all.. ever.
ReplyDeleteI think they look at sales and popularity, message doesn't play a part I guess
ReplyDeleteWe beaming, but since it is the world he might not win but what's a medal
ReplyDeleteIt's an industry award and the industry is all about sales so I wouldn't be surprised if Drake gets it.
ReplyDeleteLupe's got this!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf Drake's album wasn't on this then it would be unconvincingly Lupe's Grammy, Nas album was underwelming in caparison so I mos def don't see him winning over Lupe, Ross album was the least memorable ,and even though he's hot right now, 2Chainz will not win, If Take Care wins then I'm cool with it, it was a really decent album and the production was better than Lupe's, I feel Drake is underrated and if Take Care wins then it's well deserved BUT I WANT Lupe to win this so he's pretty much the underdog.

ReplyDeleteTake care was a great album.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I want him to win, he wont. Industry thing, based on sales.
ReplyDeleteLupe is the G.O.A.T
ReplyDeleteLupe already won.... Respect.. Can't say the same thing for almost all the other rappers nominated.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Grammy has deadline lol why then artists didn't release before deadline?
ReplyDeleteIf drake gets it....lol these Grammy is trolling
Any other occasion, I would give Lupe the nod hands down. But F&L II wasn't up to his first two albums (althought it is still very, very good), and Life is Good gets better with every listen.
