Aww I love Lupe too Dr. West :)
ReplyDeleteOk he called Jay-Z a lyrical genius... I could have sworn that title belonged to Lupe. Hell, I could have sworn that Jay-Z and Cornel had a discussion where they agreed that Lupe was the best writer of our time? Still doesn't change the fact that Lu is more lyrical than Jay-z though, so I don't understand why he didn't just say Lu was is a lyrical beast on his own right?
ReplyDeleteHe was just acknowledging jay's lyrical greatness (which is true) too but he clearly gave lupe all the glory.
DeleteIn response to ^^,
ReplyDeletePay homage where homage is due.
This was raw thank u sean
ReplyDeleteSo I guess anyone besides Lu sucks and deserves no recognition. That's you guy's logic?
ReplyDeleteUh, not what I'm saying. I just find it weird that his first thought for Jay-Z was lyrical genius, but for Lupe it wasn't.
DeleteThe reason why Cornell likes Lu is for his rebelliousness and political content in his music instead of his lyrical ability.
I'm just of the opinion that the main reason why Lupe is your favorite rapper should be because of his lyrical greatness. No one dead or alive has matched his best work in terms of lyricism. Jay-Z himself knows this, hence him calling Lu the greatest writer of our time.
I'm not knocking Jay-Z down or anything. He's definitely among the elites and greats when he gets down to business, but to not mention Lu's lyrical ability in the same breath as you mention another rapper's lyrical ability seem very odd to me. It comes off as him not thinking that Lupe is a lyricist to me.
watch the interview again
DeleteYo Jay Z was a lyrical in the past. Some of his lyrics today are kind of watered down. But really, just listen to Reasonable Doubt.
DeleteHappy valentine's day!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe same to you!!!!
DeleteWow this is soooo inspiring, I remember Lupe saying he made the cool after one of Dr. Cornel West's talk about making the cool uncool and the uncool cool. So for the the guy you get inspiration from to recognize you like that!! wow thats deep.
