Video: Lupe Fiasco interview with Rikki Martinez at Power 106! [UPDATED]
Lupe sat down with Rikki Martinez from Power 106 in LA and had a really dope interview. They talked about working on Kanye's "Black Skinhead", CRACK, the concept behind #1234 and wearing a KKK outfit, SLR 2 and the wave caused by the "Control" verse, the "falling off" line on POP/COJ and what his version of ratchet is.
He also revealed that those studio sessions with Ty Dolla $ign were indeed for Tetsuo & Youth. Rikki really knows her stuff so you'll definitely want to check it out above!
UPDATE: Power 106 just uploaded the full interview with about 10 more minutes of footage. Watch above as Lupe talks about crowd reactions on tour, choosing singles, Drizzys Law, locking his Twitter account, Philosophy Sundays and more!
rikki is the best
ReplyDelete@UKFiasco for info on lupe fiasco glasgow show. We finally got him to come and perform. 18th December
DeleteShout out to Rikki. Every other host ask the same generic questions. This lady did her homework. Asked a few questions that i was pondering about.
ReplyDeleteThis was worth watching.
ReplyDeleteSome artist specifically say no personal relationship questions as a condition for the interview and Lu's private anyway
ReplyDeleteBest interview so far. She set it up so perfectly, did great research, for him to elaborate more than he usually does. Well done.
ReplyDeleteHmm, I wonder if Lu did a song for Tetsuo & Youth while working on blackkk skinhead with yeezy??? Just a thought... ;)
ReplyDeleteRikki should always interview Lupe
ReplyDeleteThat word ratchet needs to be retired as we are going into 2014.
ReplyDeletetwerking also
DeleteThat was a damn good interview
ReplyDeleteHe wouldn't answer anyway and I don't blame him.
ReplyDeletelupes gotta bring his band back on tour
ReplyDeleteCan someone please help me to understand CRACK. My first reaction is to be disappointed and slightly appalled. Am I missing something???
ReplyDeleteHave you heard "gotta eat" and how the whole song is a double entendre between fast food and drug dealing? Think of this as the "ratchet" version as he put it, between crack and sex
DeleteRight, but that's storytelling. Which is why Gotta Eat is actually one of my favorite songs. CRACK doesnt seem to be storytelling in any fashion
DeleteWhy should Crack have to tell a story?
DeleteHe blocked me like six months ago....and I didn't even do anything wrong :/
ReplyDeleteat 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 apostle paul said.....he became ALL things to ALL people so that he may gain the most people....I don understand his logic for crack but I think its his way of reaching the "ratchet rappers fan base" lil wayne ect......classic bait then switch.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you have watched as many Lupe interviews as I have & will know that when a female interview asks the "funky sexy shit"!Lupe gets guarded for the rest of the interview and doesn't talk as much as he did with this interview.
ReplyDeleteI actually think this was as "funkiest sexiest " interview I have ever watched actually.
Well done Rikki!!!
Btw It's lovely seeing Lupe laughing again. Hair pulled back; we can see the cute face too; And being so positive
ReplyDeleteJust left the Portland Oregon show. Lu killed it! 90 minutes of hands in the air! Closed with Daydream.
ReplyDeleteTimesNuRoman needs to do a lyric breakdown of "SLR 2" for the impersonations and Poor Decisions for the card metaphor
ReplyDeleteHell yeah we want Lupe Fiasco but those videos are almost nostalgic as an old fan and I don't think people realize he never fell off lyrically
