This is the first of a series of interviews we are going to do with people who contribute to the blog.
Let's start with Sean...
As most of you know, Sean was the creator of this amazing blog, but most people don't know much about him. So here's a little interview I did to get to know him a little bit better..
1) So tell us a little about yourself and one thing you can't stand.
My real name is Ludwig...you might know me by the name Sean or Jeezy. It would probably take a little bit too long to explain why I choosed to not take my real name for my blog account...I actually could change it to my real name now...but everyone knows me by the name "Sean"..so I'm just gonna keep it like that and I actually like it more than my real name anyways. I'm 22 years old and I live in Germany.
A thing I can't stand? I really don't like people who are ignorant towards music. I think you should be open for everything and give every kind of music a chance. After listening to it you can still say "Damn that sucked". But at least take a listen before judging it. That's another thing I don't like...prejudice.
2) If another rapper offered you a job (with pay) to do their blog, would you drop this one?
I put so much work and passion into this blog...I wouldn't just stop it like that. Depending on who the rapper would be...I would probably take that job. But I would still do the same work, that I do now, for the lupEND blog.
3) Let's say someone went up to you and said, "I hate Lupe Fiasco. He raps about skateboards and robots. It's nonsense." (this happens very frequently). Would you try to change their mind? and if so, what would you say?
Well..if they think like that...it's their loss. If they want to miss out on some of the best rap music they can get. Let them do their thing. I would probably try to play them a couple of tracks...and if they would still think the same way after that...I just wouldn't care. There are so many people out there who probably don't even know who Lupe is...it's actually kinda sad. Everyone should listen to what they like...I'm not gonna tell you, you have to listen to this or that. You don't like Lu? Ok...your loss not mine. That's how I think.
4) You mention Nikki Jean quite a bit on the blog..any reason why?
Yeah. There's just something about her that makes her unique. I think she has a great personality (eventhough I don't know her in person). And she's really talented. It's actually interesting because she's not even signed to FNF but you still see something about her on the blog almost every day. I think that she has the potential to become one of the top 5 female artists in the world. I don't even know if she would want to get that big...but I think she could. And if she works with the right people and gets a good record deal everything should be possible for her. That's why she's right after Lupe one of the most featured artists on the blog. She just deserves as much support as possible...eventhough she probably doesn't even need it, because she's already in her own league...I mean what other artists are there that do the kind of music she does? (and I'm mainly talking about her solo stuff) No one...at least no one that impresses me that much. And I'm also a part of the Nikki Jean Fan Blog now...which is awesome. So check out what we do over there.
5) Seeing as I do Genius Lu' every week, which Lupe verse (or verses) is YOUR favorite?
mayne declaring war on the deck like they the joker
all while duckin' from bruce wayne
while they poker with the devil
and our moonlitten ghetto
hello my name stickers on the stickers of the veins
in rehab remembering the feelings when they used to get mellow
that's it..the whole songs is crazy
6) Most of the people I've come across get into the climax of who Lupe really is after they've seen him perfom with their own two eyes. You, unfortunately, haven't had that advantage living in Germany. What makes you so passionate about his music?
I mean I've seen him perform...just not in person...well...what makes me passionate?...I think it's the feeling that you get through the music...sounds weird but what he raps about sounds real and it has a message and you believe him with what he says. And his flow is ridiculous. There's only one Lupe and no one can take his place. I'm also still listening to F&L..and normally I don't listen that much to an album if it's already out for that long because most of the stuff gets old realy soon...but not Lu...he makes classic albums. Only Jay, Nas and Kanye are in the same league.
7) A lot of people compare Lupe to Kanye. What do you think is similar and what is different?
I don't even think that they rap that similar. They both have their own style..and somehow you can't really compare them because Kanye is going into a whole other direction with what he does right now. Their voices are different and Kanye always brings those lines where you immediatley get it and think...woah that was sick and they have this "wow" effect...like you think..."hey, did he really just say this?"..he really makes you get out of your chair and say "Yeah man that's what's up!" When you listen to Lupe, sometimes you have to listen 2 or 3 times to get it compeletly. I would say Lupe's rhymes are more complex than Kanye's.
8) This whole "Amajanese" thing has gotten bigger than expected. I like it though...it's become a legit word that explains two completely different cultures coming together. Kudos on that. How did it start?
That's easy to explain..I listened to Gold Watch and heard the line where Lu says: "I'm American mentally with Japanese tendencies"..I just thought that was a really long line to express that...like it takes quite a while to say it...and I thought....hmmm how could you put that in one word? And that was the moment "Amajanese" was born. And there's a mixtape coming out soon where people actually feature the word...so keep an eye out for that.
Shout out time!
Alright..shout outs to everyone who reads this, my mum, all the writers on the blog, of course Lupe, the whole FNF crew, Nikki, Summiyah, Anthony and Mallory from the Nikki Jean Fan Blog, Pro-Payne and everyone from the Rebellion, all the myspace cats that have been on here or want to be on here and the cool guys form gowherehiphop. com...and all my other affiliates...thanks for the support! ReplyDeleteWe are much the same. Both german, both 22 years old and we both think the same way about the F&L album, the ignorance and the Kanye vs Lupe thing .
But 2 big differences: He can speak /write english and i need two- or three-hundred times to get the message completely :-D
