Lupe Fiasco At UCF - Review

10-15-2008 Orlando, FL - UCF Arena

Tuesday morning at the gym, I told Victor that I saw that the Lupe Fiasco concert was free for UCF students. We decided to waste over an hour driving to and back from campus to pick up the free tickets. When Victor said he'd need another one (as in buy one for his brother), the guy at the box office just handed over another ticket. Hmm.

Lupe Fiasco

Star of the evening. I wish I'd known that they were, for once, allowing cameras into the show because there were plenty of dynamic images to be had. It was a great show and fulfilled my primary criteria for seeing a concert: presenting something compelling for the eyes. Lupe and his live band had plenty of soul and funk to spare. Things were choreographed, and the band was very physical, getting into the act themselves. There was a point in one song where everyone (minus the DJ and drummer) lied down and kept on playing. This included the two keyboardists who kept their hands stretched up to the keys, not missing a beat. Non-students were charged $25 for the show, and I think that Lupe Fiasco would have warranted that price and more just by himself.
