Technical Difficulties....
Written By Jonathan
The concert was scheduled at six. Augustana played their first note at 7:25. Ridiculous. But let's get to Lupe.
Overall great. I'm rather hesitant about seeing hip-hop acts live, mainly because I think it's really hard for rap artists to have an engaging show. Lupe blew that notion out of the water. The man has so much energy once he gets on stage and the band added a new flavor to each and every song. "Dumb It Down", for example, went from a spacey synth beat on "The Cool", to an straight up rock song on stage.
The setlist was rather predictable. "Kick, Push" started it off, which again had an added rock feel to it. Then "Hip-Hop Saved My Life", which took two takes because of technical difficulties. Just as good the second time. That segued right into "I Gotcha", which leads me to a point about his band. Probably better than Lu himself. Held it together the whole night, and even had small jams during some songs, something I'm sure you won't see at many hip-hop concerts.
