What up Charles?
Yesterday Charles posted a list of a few CDs that are mandatory for Hip Hop head's to listen to and he received criticism for not posting Lupe Fiasco on the list, well here's what he had to say about that:

Lupe is a part of the new crop of urban expression that I call Nu-Hop. I'm sure you guys witnessed me talk about it before. But really, Nu-Hop is an urban spin on all things music. Ne-Yo kinda got the gist of it when he did "Irreplaceable". Country-meets-808.
Basically, Lu, Asher, BoB, Cudi, Sciryl... all young musical risktakers who are as hood as it gets, are pretty much Nu-Hop. Disagree if you want, it's just what I want to say.

here this dude goes again with his broad statements about things nobody cares about. Hip Hop is Hip Hop wheather your gangster like BIG or a "risktaker" like Kanye. I would respect him more if he just said he didnt feel like putting Lupe on his list...its his list after all, so its his choice.

Nu-hop, hip hop, jazz, rock... it's all just music...
yeah he didn't put Lupe on his list but the only reason why Lupe was brought up in the first place was because people were bringing it up and saying "oh so you dont like Lupe??" which would have given people/blogs a perfect reason to gas up a "Charles hamilton HATES lupe story".

ReplyDeleteyou saying Nu-Hop is gay is like saying "Hipster" is gay, now I dont like the word Hipster but everyone has been using the word "Hipster" to describe the new class of hip hop artists... I rather go with Nu-Hop than Hipster, it sounds better and fits the concept better

ReplyDeleteI know, but I'm saying that the world for some reason feels the need to associate everyone who is new as "hipster", pretty much if you aint about gun play, then youll be automatically categorized as Hipster. To me the only Hipster artists I know are the Cool Kids, but Lupe Fiasco, Charles Hamilton, Wale, etc are NOT hipster. I can guarantee if you google it, you'll find a ton of sites saying these artists are hipster. Nu-Hop, however, seems to fit the "new artist" category much better.

ReplyDeleteso let me get this straight, he is on his top ten rappers, but he doesnt think one of his two albums are mandatory for hip-hop?... that doesnt really make sense. I think Charles is just tryna save his ass from being consider to be in a beef with Lu ,which i understand, but in the process he just seems like his bullshittin callin Lupe "bigger than hip hop" If you dont like Lu that much, which is perfectly fine, just be like i dont like Lu's music that much and let that be the end of story.

What do you notice about this list?? All of these albums AREN'T OUT YET... You know how long the game needed a Jadakiss album?? Detox been in talks for years.. and Kanye West Good Ass Job will be the return of the Non-Autotune Kanye West... in other words, all of these albums listed are albums that Hip Hop severely needs, now if Lupe was still doing lupEND this year then I can guarantee that Charles would have included it, but we all know that Lasers is supposed to be just a "OK ATLANTIC HERE IS YO ALBUM NOW LEAVE ME ALONE" type of album, besides there aint even a official release date for it yet other than what was said @ a concert
Now stop gassing up BS... if I said TOP 3 ALBUMS YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO OVERALL and failed to mention Blackstar, Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt, F&L, Black on Both Sides, Be... (see you cant even pick 3 without leaving classics out)... if I was to leave 1 album out then people would withing seconds say YO WHY YOU NOT PUT UP [insert classic album here], IS IT BECAUSE YOU DONT LIKE THEM? YOU DONT KNOW HIP HOP!! (etc)

In my opinion the Jadakiss Album is the most important album this year, why? because Jadakiss is an amazing lyricist, but does that give people the right to say OMFG YOU WRITE ON THE LUPEND BLOG BUT ARENT EXCITED ABOUT LASERS?? WTF RHYMESTYLE??? No of course I'm excited about Lasers, I just feel like a Jadakiss Album is exactly what Hip Hop needs right now...

then charles himself should be too, because he is more "nu-hop" then lupe and ash roth are in my opinion...
so there is no justification for putting himself on his list...
but i guess he needed an excuse to plug his upcoming projects.....

ReplyDeleteas for the kanye thing, thats just pretty much expected tho, we all know if we get a anti-autotune kanye album that it will be CRAZY, but then again I should'nt be hyping myself up for that cuz you should always expect the unexpected, besides Good Ass Job is supposed to be Kanye's final album, and I'm sure he doesn't wanna exit with a wack album... and I dont get how u dont like What If, that song was CRAZY!!! yeah he basically remixed Why, but then again Why was/still is hot, so I aint complaining =D
