So...Shining Down leaked, huh?

Yeah..Shining Down leaked...and I can tell you...someone's not
happy about it...I had to take Rhymestyle's entry down.

(Below is my comment on the situation before I knew what was going on...you can basically forget about most of the things I said....just keeping it up so you know what Lupe replied to.)

Oh yeah...to whoever runs that WeAreLasers twitter (probably not Lupe...what's up Busy?) I took that entry down out of respect...but...don't be mad at me because a track leaked...it's not my fault and I didn't even put it up on here...also...you have no say in what I post...if you want to tell me what I put up on my blog then pay me.

You also can't deny that I'm making your own work easier...so you know...I do what I want (Lasers manifesto point 7 - read it!). Besides that you can find the track on any other hip hop related site...so why not on here, too?

Anyways...probably Lupe leaked it himself (update: he actually didn't)...if it wasn't him then the real thing you should worry about is where that leak came from.

That's all...I'll just keep looking in the sky and enjoy the music, 'cause in the end that's the only thing that really matters to me...

We're not Losers, We Are LASERS baby!

  6. The version of "Fire" that leaked was the NO DJ, VBR CD Quality one...

    Hehe

  7. Also... just an FYI... the readers who read this blog are hardcore Lupe fans and will probably go out and buy the song 2 or 3 times when it drops on iTunes regardless of the fact that you can only buy a song once...

These are true supporters... just sayin..

  8. ^^Who cares if its old? *sigh* The high quality version leaked as well as shining Down. Today is a good day, indeed.

  9. Sean *thumbs up* nice-straight forward point man.

  10. Whoa whoa soo lupe wasn't the one that leaked this?? Or you're saying there's a chance that he wasn't the one that leaked this?? Sean and rhyme didn't you get a comment on your shoutbox sayin that it would drop today??? I highly doubt this leak was snaked...

  11. I already got the song this morning on NahRight but good post. Is this definitely the final version?

  12. All I know is this the wait is finally over! Song is great. Lupe and Matthew Santos are a force to be reckoned with.

  13. I give a week before we never see another post from sean again. tentatively placing him EVERYWHERE..NOWHERE..DOWN HERE.

    LOL

I agree tho, put sean on payroll.

  14. it would be nice if you asked before posting things such as this. you don't have to deal with the consequences so therefore you do not care and you don't have to do the dirty work of getting taken down off of every site. With this being a popular lupe fiasco fan site you shouldn't be careless about what you post (in regards to Lupe of course). It doesn't matter what other sites posted it they are not Lupe Fiasco fan sites! You should want to work with Fiasco and his team instead of against them. I understand you have the right to blog whatever you want to...but its all about respect for Lupe, for 1st and 15th,for his music and to his team.

  15. where did the first leak come from?

first few people who leaked it are the ones in the wrong.
but if you preview a single for months, its gonna get leaked

"You should want to work with Fiasco and his team instead of against them"

that's a smack in the face. I know for a fact Sean cooperates to the best of his ability. He's been doing this faithfully, probono since I was freestyling to Food & Liquor beats (how long ago did that album drop?)

What's funny is ya'll come after Sean yet BIGGER BLOGSITES like Nahright, 2DB and others have pretty much IGNORED your requests. I myself have been more than accomodating because I love and respect Lupe as you said.

Maybe I'M reaching but instead of complaining about the work the tasks you perform like a weary lone ranger. Common sense would say PROPOSE THE NOTION TO THOSE IN POWER AT FNF TO MAKE SEAN OFFICIALLY PART OF THE TEAM. Duh.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I totally agree. Get off the man back

  18. PROPOSE THE NOTION TO THOSE IN POWER AT FNF TO MAKE SEAN OFFICIALLY PART OF THE TEAM

    ^^

to do what? he chose to put time and effort into this site he's not being forced to blog.

    ReplyDelete
  19. ..so..then don't complain or try govern his posts? am I missing something?

People COME to the lupe blog, expecting exclusive content on their favorite artist. He's not harboring or hosting downloads. Like I said, there are websites with WAY MORE traffic than either of the two of us who STILL HAVE ACTIVE LINKS for download as I type this response but yet you sit here going back and forth with comments in here instead of going after the bigger fish who've shown FNF no respect in regards to your efforts to have the song removed.

    Backwards and counterproductive.

but what do I know, I just do marketing, online media management, engineering and have had my hands in leaking of music before.

    *rolls eyes*

    carry on.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Kay is a groupie. Shut up.

Second of all, I don't care if this was unexpected. Lupe deserves the leak for dicking around his fans for months.

And you think this blog makes any dent on the traffic Nahright gets? Don't attack the little people.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It's disappointing to see people at FNF reacting as they are.

The people on this site regularly are die-hard-to-the-fullest Lupe Fiasco fans. I planned on legally purchasing "Shining Down" once it was released anyway, just as I'm sure all other regulars on this site would.. and I'll easily purchase multiple copies of Lasers the minute a Best Buy opens the day it's released.

The fact that this blog posted the link, removed it, and you're still getting on their cases about it is uncalled for. You have the right to be upset about it, but keep in mind (as it's already been said so many times), that they weren't the ones that leaked the song, they simply posted it (and PROMPTLY REMOVED IT).

You know this blog site would be one of the first saying when "Shining Down" is available for LEGAL download, and would obviously recommend doing so.

Everyone here loves, respects, and greatly appreciates Lupe, the FNF crew, and all the music and entertainment provided to us. You cannot expect Lupe fans to not want to jump on a link of CDQ version of Shining Down when it's provided (especially since we've been waiting for the release of the song for months now).. and as much so - you can expect us to purchase the single and the album once available. The people here are the ones that will buy multiple copies, advise their friends to go buy the album, force their friends that are (yikes) non-Lupe followers to listen to it so they'll start loving it, too.

  22. what up ya'll...Lupe here...first lemme make a few things very clear.

    1. I love the fansite alot i think its dope...i feel flattered that i have so many people interested and in support of my music and the messages that i try to stand for...and not just me but for Hey Champ and the crew and damn near anybody who even resembles me...you gives give them shine and i commend you for that.

    2. I DONT LEAK MY OWN RECORDS!!! I'M NOT A FAN OF LEAKING RECORDS OR OF DOWNLOADING!!! My entire first album leaked and possibly cost me from going platinum my first time out as the final estimates of how many people actually downloaded that album illegally was well over half a million. So how do u think i feel that everytime i come to this site where my "fans" are i see you putting up links to download my records???...I dont care about the other sites. I care about where my real fans are supposed to be active. If you come across it and you like it and keep it to yourself thats all cool with me but to make it where as other people are able to download it in a public forum is honestly an insult to me. Especially because of how much i love you guys. that shit is kinda like a slap in the face.

    3. FAKE SHORE DRIVES "UNRELEASED" RECORDS COME FROM MY OLD PRODUCERS WHO HAVE MY OLD HARD DRIVES. I DONT AGREE WITH THAT SHIT OR CO-SIGN IT AT ALL ITS THE REASON I STOPPED DOING MIXTAPES AND I TOLD ANDREW THIS WHEN WE MET IN CHICAGO AT THE COCA-COLA TOUR SHOW AND HE THOUGHT I WAS GONNA BE ALL PISSED BUT IT WAS ALL LOVE AND I TOLD HIM I KNOW WHERE HE'S GETTING THOSE RECORDS FROM AND HE AINT GOT WORRY ABOUT ME HE GOTTA WORRY ABOUT ATLANTIC OR ARISTA OR THE PUBLISHERS OF THOSE VERY "UNCLEARED AND UNCLEARABLE" SAMPLES. Everytime i get the urge to do something new for my fans I go online and see "new unreleased lupe" from 6 years ago and i shrug and just say fuck it. Things like that fuck up the real plans and the mood. You dont just throw out bunch of records for the sake of having a bunch of records out. I dont operate like that as an artist. Some records aren't even meant to come out.

    4. When we were talking about who should have first rights to new shit when we do officially "leak" something the only two sites that came up was LupEnd Blog and Nahright. Thats big whether you know that or not. You have a direct relationship with the artist you rock with who puts your name in the hat for everything that involves him online.

    5. Someone hacked my email. I was about to fire my entire staff and cut off relationships over shining down leaking last night. Bun B hit me and was like "the records dope" and i was like "what record?" nobody even has it. the only possible explanation is my email chain with the mix studio (which is air tight...the studio that is) was hacked and thats where the record came from.

Lastly, the album is fucking ridiculous. I dont like to brag or shit like that but the album is sooooo fucking crazy at this point 95% done. and its all balls to the wall fire. I have the experience and the freedom now to make what i think will be the best received album of my career.

    Lupe in the club??? Blasphemy!!!!

    We're Not Losers...

  23. *Still same dude from post directly above Lupe..*

I definitely get where you're coming from Lupe.. I know I'd be angered at it as well.. but most of us here kind of saw it as coming down hard on the bloggers on this site.

    You did clear things though.

We all love you as an artist, and cannot wait for the REAL release then, and of course, the release of Lasers.

    We Are Lasers!

  24. Your real fans will buy your singles, album, t-shirts, concert tickets and whatever no matter what...

I just think it's kinda lame that lupend isn't supposed to post leaked songs that have already gone on all the major sites...

and for the older joints... As A fan I feel like I should be allowed to own all these records lol... I understand you don't want to be judged by some songs you made 5 - 6 years back... but fuck it.. it is what it is and I don't see why it shouldn't be posted on your fan site when it's already on the internet...

"Rebel with a cause; Outlaw with the lawyer"
I'm in love with the song... dope

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Lupe

I feel what you're saying. Being perfectly honest before I became a fan/lover of the music. I downloaded the album, got hooked, went out and bought it AND the doctors advocate that week (if memory serves me).

I'm glad I did, because my Food & Liquor got autographed by Sarah Green, Matthew, Gemstones and Nikki Jean when ya'll came to DC @ 930club for the Cool tour.

My personal feeling is, Sean and the LupEND blog shouldn't have people from FNF coming down on them. I woke up around to 2AM EST with the track in my email, uploaded it..looked @ my neighbors (2DB, Nahright etc.) and posted it.

However, soon as Kaycee hit me up, I gladly cooperated as I have and always do with any arists or label reps that approach me. I'm not gonna point fingers or say names but like I said earlier ITS THE BIGGER WEBSITES WITH THE MOST TRAFFIC, who pretty much brushed off your camps requests for removal.

That's something YOU'RE going to have to look into when you get time.

Sean hasn't been defiant and I think it's a situation where it just "looks" bad on his part because he posted a stream..NO ONES REALIZING this way wayyyy after the fact THOUSANDS of downloads were already exposed. the lesser of two evils should be plain to see.

I hope you continue you to consider Sean/the LupEND blog as your primary choice for exclusive content and wish you the best in your efforts to put out music and the forthcoming album.

  26. Honestly, Lupe’s reaction to all of this is very disheartening. When I read things like “I'M NOT A FAN OF LEAKING RECORDS OR OF DOWNLOADING!!!” It makes me question his business since. Dear Lupe: If you honestly believe that the Internet has no role to play in art, being an artist, being a musician, or in music listening and distribution, then you are operating within the business models of yesterday my friend. To see you get up and scold your most dedicated and loyal followers for clamoring at the opportunity to hear your work is discouraging. This is not the same Internet of 3 years ago when Food and Liquor came out. Artists such as yourself and Kanye who have an embedded and lengthy relationship with the Internet should understand the consequences of such a relationship and figure out a creative solution to capitalize off of it. Your art is a product. You have willingly entered into an agreement to sell/distribute this product for profit. Our interaction with you is our own end user experience. Reprimanding your fan base is not the solution to discourage them from taking advantage of every opportunity to maximize the end-user experience. It is an attempt to control it and, quite frankly, it is not for you to say.
The issue should be: How am I, as an artist, going to encourage fans to support my work in a way that benefits them AND me? Everyone here respects your work, your message, and what you represent.
This blog is a great resource to fans everywhere and I appreciate all of the hard work and effort that is put into maintaining it on a daily basis. I have nothing but admiration for those that attempt to spread an honest message and keep justice alive. -Peace

  29. I thought the song is hot. Matt is brilliant as usual. Ive listened to it once and have no idea what it means but as with most Lupe songs you gotta listen to it a couple times to comprehend the brilliance. Im gonna buy this album and a couple backups just in case

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Sheena M.

I understand what you are trying to say, I respect it, but I feel Lupe way harder as an artist myself. My art, is my heart, it's what I'm passionate about, it was I love to do. It is not just a product. As an artist, we remember all to well the time where we did what we loved for free. Would you want a sketch of yours leaking when it's 70% done? No! Because regardless of the reaction, YOU, THE ARTIST know you didn't get to put your heart into that piece the way you wanted.
I think people have tied business to art a little too tight. Art is your life, (if you're an artist)Your blessed to make it your business, but business is just a job. And ANY REAL ARTIST ( I believe Lupe is very much one) Will STARVE in the name of beautiful, completed, respected works before he "leaks" halves of pieces for the sake of a business edge.

These two artist you mentioned are my favorite ironically, and they have the internet thing in common, but I believe it's because they actually get to share themselves as artist, instead what an exec. chooses to market to the public.

I believe MOST REAL artist HATE business, but they love their respective crafts enough to endure it.

    Keep making Art Lu.
    You're no LOSER.

Of course this is all IMO.

  31. ^At that last comment.

Charles Hamilton is good, but honestly what makes him better than Lupe?

Or what makes any rapper better than any other?

How do you even judge something like that outside of opinion?

Aside from that though, in my opinion, LU is 100x better than CH, hands down.

Charles Hamilton never spit a 16 about any social or economic issue and made it hot, he's a breath of fresh air yes and he's a very creative artist, but there's still something old about his work.

(also posting anonymously to flame in comments is cowardice)

ch does how to make better hits than lupe. better believe.

.p.s. you want to take shots at me go to charleshamilton.blogspot.com i owning that website right now.

  33. charles hamilton is better than lupe.
    ^^^^^^^

Charles is that you? Seriously, that is the only possible explanation I have for that statement.

Anyways, I respect Lupe for coming in here himself and explaining his side of the story. While I do not agree with his opinions entirely, I believe any die-hard Lu fan such as myself should at least try to comply with his wishes. Although I too d/l this track, I will definitely be purchasing the single once it drops on iTunes, as will most of the people who frequent blogs such as this. There's not much to worry about.

  34. Wow i can't beleive i read all those post my eyes hurt.

Anyway im kind of at a loss here. I'm new to this site and just started reading and so this.

Why is everyone so mad at Lupe Fiasco and FnF? I think an artist has every right to not want people to leak his/her track without permission.

What is weirder is you guys know what your doing is wrong but you think you guys are innocent because apparently sites that have more Traffic than you did it as well.

Also who the hell is charles Hamilton and why the hell are you guys saying he is better than lupe.

Again im kinda of lost here maybe im missing something....

    ReplyDelete
  35. ^^ well, first of all.... no one's mad.

and I think with the comment that Lupe left on this entry, everything was pretty much cleared up
