Lets go back in time for a sec...What was the first Lupe Fiasco song you heard and what were you doing at the time?
Me? I just came home from school and "Kick, Push" came on TV. Even though I heard of Lu before, on "Touch the Sky", I didn't actually do my homework until I saw the "Kick, Push" video.
I first saw Lupe Fiasco on I Gotcha Video playing on tv
ReplyDeletei was over my accociates house when the vid for kick push came on
ReplyDeleteeven though i knew about lu cuz of touch the sky i didnt know who he was
I was watching MTV when they debuted the Kick, Push video... Good times.

ReplyDeletei heard kick push but i didnt know it was him lol
ReplyDeletei did my homework on dec. 18 the day the cool came out
i didnt even know it came out that day til a week later LOL
i was playing yugioh with my friend when touch the sky came on. i heard the lupe steal like lupin the third line and instantly listened to all of his mixtape stuff.
ReplyDeleteFirst track I heard him on was "Touch the Sky" and then I just googled him...
ReplyDeleteI think I heard "Kick, Push" for the first time on allhiphop.com
I downloaded the leak and well REAL got me hooked...
ReplyDeleteAnd yea of course Touch The Sky was the first song I heard but well I didn't really know who he was until I heard REAL
daydreamin vid on tv after school.first song i seen him in...i remember liking his red sweatshirt with wings on it? i think that's right...also thinking about him wearing glasses and i recognized the beat from an advert on tv...think it was for t-mobile.then i got into kanye west, downloaded his stuff off limewire found lupe's name on ttsky and that's when i started googling him and made the connection that he was the same geeky guy in the t-mobile song lol.
ReplyDeleteTouch the Sky not till after superstar I googled and download his mixtapes and got hooked.
ReplyDeletei first hear Lu on touch the sky, i listened to his verse and was like "daaaaamn!" based on his name i thought he was a latin cat, then mick boogie had a kanye mixtape called second semester and kick push was on it. after that i limewired lupe fiasco and downloaded all kinds of mixtape stuff.
ReplyDeleteHe's pretty much the best MC ever.
i saw him on touch the sky, but i think the 1st song i heard of him was daydreamin, and i was probably just chillin. i only became a PROPER fan last year june though :)
ReplyDeleteHeard 'Kick, Push' when MTV played a brief 30 secs. of it while switching between shows.. didn't think too much of it.. then when Lupe was a guest on BET (forget the name of the show.. it wasn't 106 & Park though) he presented it, and that was the first time I heard it all the way through. At that point, I had to have that song.. then I heard 'I Gotcha' and 'Daydreamin' ' and I had to have "Food & Liquor"
ReplyDeleteOver 3 years ago.. wow. I never would have guessed that he'd become my all time favorite artist.
well i wasnt in 2 music at all soo i was watchin rob&big and fell asllep then when i woke up i heard Superstar it was sooo nice then i started likein music i started hearin more and more now hes my fav rappers soo thats how thank u superstar
ReplyDeleteWell, I heard kick push and TTsky and was like hmm that guy is pretty good. That didn't get me to do homework though.. I dl'd some kanye stuff and it had a track called "Chi Town lol" turns out it was "dear fall". Hooked ever since. Greatest lyricist of all time.. YEAH I SAID IT!
ReplyDeletehad Touch the Sky on a mixtape, started flipping out when I heard him drop Lupin the third, THENNNN I saw Kick, Push on my boys myspace page and peeped the Wicked City T-shirt he was rocking and flipped again, patiently waited for F&L and the rest is,well yeah.
ReplyDeleteI saw Kick, Push on youtube for the first time, and I kept that track on repeat for the next week. From there touch the sky and mixtapes the bootleg F&L and then the official release. He's always been my favorite current mc, been 3-4 years now. He really didn't get any recognition till Superstar dropped early sept. 07 and eventually The Cool later that year. Still dope.
ReplyDeleteMy homie was repeating the line from "Touch the Sky' over and over....
ReplyDelete"I'm back on the block like I'm layin' on the street"
Went home, saw the "Kick, Push" vid, been hooked ever since.
What a dope post idea!
ReplyDeleteI was in the Calgary Aritzia store. They were played Food and Liquor, which has just dropped. I'd never heard of Lu before but I went over to ask the dj who it was and the rest is history.
I randomly found him on youtube with his single "The Cool" . Afterwards i listened to his mixtape stuff and became a huge fan.
ReplyDeleteUhm...actually it was Touch the Sky. Right after I heard Lupe on Fort Minor: We Major mixtape.
ReplyDeleteIn a week my friend gave me a track with a strange title "Never Lies" (lol) and said "check it out! that's that Fiasco from "Be Somebody" and "SP&IP", Mike produced the track!"
it all happenned in November '06.
in a week i was killed with F&L.
since the very day I'm a Lupe Fiasco fan.
G-A
was at home working out watching mtv and it premiered on mtv. I've seen the face before on touch the sky but i wasnt a fan until kick push, which is still one of my favorite Lupe songz. Bought food and Liqour, then the cool, then started getting into his mixtape stuff... been a fan since that day on the treadmill and now i visit this blog everyday to keep abreast on everything Lupe... :)
ReplyDeletei gotta admit, at first i didnt like touch the sky, and since lupe was unknown by me at the time, i never cared to listen to his verse. then kick push came out, and he was still nothin special to me. it wasnt until early 07, while i was still in my lil wayne/da drought 3 fan days, i was in my english class. we had an assignment to bring in any song wit a story to it and itll be played in class. i bought in "like father like son" by the game and busta rhymes. some kid bought in "he say she say". from that point on, lupe was officially ill to me. but i still didnt call myself a fan, trapped in my lil wayne phase lol. once i heard dumb it down, even tho i aint understand wtf he was talkin about the first few times, hes been my fav rapper of all time ever since.
ReplyDeletei think it was 05, i went to a WGCI (chicago radio station) concert in chicago and lupe opened up and i remember them introducing him and me being like who the fuck is lupe fiasco?? then he came out and did kick push and i was like aight aight im feeling this, went home told my friend about it and we started downloading all his mixtapes and the rest is history.
ReplyDeleteListening to DJ Semtex on 1Xtra, he played "Conflict Diamonds" over the Kanye beat and I said WOOOOWWW!!! Then I just checked out his mixtapes and have been a huge fan ever since.
ReplyDeletei first heard him on touch the sky n i thought he had to be legit cuz he was featured on kanyes album...but i thought to myself dat his name was really odd haha....wen i heard kick push i changed my opinion completly...dat song was so legit i felt like skateboardin again...it was durin summer vacation of skool wen i heard dat song n i immediatly put dat song on my ipod n was bumpin dat n 'bumpin my music' from ray cash haha but yea dat song was my summer song for dat year n ever since den hes been my favortire rapper....lupes legit
ReplyDeleteMan first time heard him in my garage chillin with all my friends, they been telling me about some wack song about skating by some black guy. but i heard it n was like yo this is dope. didn't get real into it till i got a music provider trail and was listening to artist similar to Mos Def heard his songs n you know ...
ReplyDeletei would have to say touch the sky and that was like 5 years ago...googled it august 30, '05 i was 10 about to be 11, and i'm real into anime so i when i heard "Lupe Still, Like Lupin the 3rd" i was like WHO IS THIS! i need to find out...i still only listen to Lupe's verse on the Touch the Sky
ReplyDeletei was chillin and i heard Touch the Sky on MTV i went Bonkers!!!! Then I heard Kick Push at this chicks house then it went uphill with Lupe then on
ReplyDeleteI was playing madden 07 when i first heard his song The Instumental, Became an instant fan.
ReplyDeleteFirst song I ever heard was Ooh
ReplyDeletei was watching BET lol. and they were like new joint of the day Lupe Fiasco 'kick push' and i was like 12 thinkin "oh great. another new dance craze..." but then the beat dropped and i was like OH SHIT! this is hotness haha that was also the day i picked up a pen. honestly.
ReplyDeletei waz in the 8th grade wen i heard touch the sky and i didnt kno who rocced the 3rd verse. eventualy i heard kick push and i related to the song i got hooked. ma older brothe slid me a few mixtapes and i been down since
ReplyDeletehttp://azulskies.tumblr.com/post/111508426/1-lupe-fiasco-sunshine-it-was-my-second-year
ReplyDelete05-06 was the year i shut off the radio. Became a much happier person. But kick push was just about everywhere and my friends were bumpin' it, so i heard it. Thought it was tight but kinda brushed it off cause i was to much into my underground thing and not much into skateboarding. It actually wasn't until i saw the video for dumb it down on youtube in 07 that I was like "dang!" It was about 2 months before "the cool" dropped so i started doing my homework. I listened to the entire Food & Liquor about 7 or 8 times through (outro included). I started having mixed emotions like "he can't be my favorite rapper... I only just met the guy." As soon as "the cool" dropped my denial was over. I was still interpreting F&L and then I had his new album to decipher. It was like Lu overload... And I couldn't get enough. I got all his mixtapes. Now it seems I have to turn off the underground as well because no one down there can touch Lu. Recommence the unhappiness. For now I'll keep bumpin' "Kick Push" while I eagerly await LASERS.
ReplyDeletepretty much copped "Late Registeration" and heard him on "touch the sky". but didnt really pay attention til i heard "kick push" on myspace. so i checked his myspace page and heard "STEADY MOBBIN" & the "DYNASTY FREESTYLE" w/ Gemstones, and i was stuck ever since
ReplyDeleteNow that I remember correctly, I was watching BET.
ReplyDeleteIt was the new joint of the day (I think on 106 & Park?), and I was excited by the name of the rapper (I remembered him from (TTSky) and went crazy once the song came on.
It was really like a breathe of fresh air, since rap was getting stale with dances and ramblings about money, cars, clothes, etc.
It's funny 'cause I was 12 or 13 and was in Chicago, visiting grandparents.
That video made me a huge fan and saved me from dismissing rap entirely. lol
hmm
ReplyDeleteidk what i was doing at the exact moment but i remember it was when i was in ninth grade. (2005-2006)
and i heard kick push and i was in love.
but after a while i forgot about him and in december 2007 i heard some tracks from The Cool and the rest is history...lol
I was at home on my PC listening to Kanyes Late Registration when he put it up on his website (before the album actually came out).
ReplyDeleteSo obviously I first heard dude in Touch The Sky.
The Lupin The Third and Thundercats lines in the track caught me so I just surfed the net to find his song "Pop Pop" which I thought was fire just because of the lyrical skills, I've never been cool with the gun stuff but the bars were too ill to pass up.
From there though, I found his Revenge of the Nerds mixtapes and I bumped his music since then.
It's funny, I actually thought he was a GOOD music signee like most of the then unknown guests on that album, till I heard about how Jay-Z was going to sign him to Rocafella and how Lu declined to start his own label (and then later seeing the 1st and 15th logo when the Kick Push video came out).
ReplyDeletei was at home, getting overly tired with the stupid rap vids that were bombarding the tv,and then kick push came on and the first thing i noticed, even before paying attention to the killa beat and rhymes, was that video is artistic as shit,i like the whole vybe about it,and i was like awesome, listened to the song again and i immediately got hooked, later on i remembered him from touch the sky,the funny lookin moustache and all, been a lupe fan ever since
ReplyDeleteI popped in the Late Registration album and I first heard Lupe on Touch the Sky. I didn't think of him as anything special till my bro was like this dude is nasty. I was like yea right, lil wayne is the best. lol. The i started to listen to lupes songs on youtube and i finally saw the light. Lupe is the best. FnF UP
ReplyDelete"Touch the sky" flow made me look em up. It was '05, had just got on to myspace when you could still download songs for free. First one I downloaded and listened to was "Failure". I was BLOWN AWAY! I rememeber thinkin' I'd never heard so many insane, drug out metaphors, and just when you think he's done with it, he keeps the metaphor goin'! I immediately texted my homeboy the following..."Lupe Fiasco is the future of Hip Hop". Of course later he would agree and it was that moment he became my favorite artist and let's be honest...hasnt dissapointed since
ReplyDeleteWell the first time I ever heard of Lupe Fiasco was when Late Registration by Kanye West realeased. I believe the song was touch the sky. I am not really sure what I was doing. I think I was at home for the weekend.
ReplyDeleteNow I know EXACTLY what I was doing when I heard an official Lupe single. The song was Kick Push. I remember it was spring break and I was sitting at the computer watching tv and internet surfing. I happen to be watching a rerun of BET's 106nPark. OMG, I thought Lupe was such a breath of fresh air. The video reminded me of a Spike Lee movie. And the song was so Jazzy and artsy. I remember thinking Lupe is totally different from how I perceived him on Touch The Sky. I immediately looked him up on the internet.
I first heard of Lupe when MTV did this "You hear it first thing on MTV News...I was soooo impress that when I created my MYSPACE account (Lol, when MYSPACE was poppin') I added him as a friend...BUT I didnt start paying true attention to him until Kanye posted on his blog a YouTube video of the Travis Smiley interview with Lupe. The way he spoke of "The Cool" connected to me, especially his reference to fatherless. Once I heard "He say, she say...it was a wrap! The only artist that had the ability to have tears run down my face like that was Tupac. Long story short, I will always love LUPE! As an artist, I know it is natural to change but I just hope LU forever keeps his essence!
ReplyDeletethe first time i heard him was on kick push, but what got me really hooked was and he gets the girl, becuz that was almost my story with this girl i liked,i connected instantly
ReplyDeletethe first time I heard lupe was on touch the sky but I had no idea who he was. then i heard kick, push and I was hooked.
ReplyDeleteI First heard him on a cell phone commercial for Att. but im sure i also heard him on the song touch the sky/
ReplyDeleteI think that was the summer that I graduated from high school that the joint came out. heard Kick Push on the radio, and fell in love. didn't even know that was the same dude from the Touch The Sky video. me and my brother used to play that joint all the time. I was hooked on dude tho after F&L came out, then The Cool came out and I've definitely been hooked to Lupe.
ReplyDeleteamirah.
