MTV's Hottest Mixtapes of 2009: Lupe Fiasco - "Enemy Of The State: A Love Story"
via MTV: On Monday, Mixtape Daily crowned Drake's So Far Gone the best mixtape of 2009, but there were plenty of others that excited fans from 'hood to 'hood... - Here's what they wrote about Lu's mixtape:
Lupe Fiasco: Enemy of the State: A Love Story
DJ Collaborators: N/A
Necessary Notes: "Stay outta the sun's way, like you drinking blood" — that one line says it all. Lupe Fiasco is fueled by a quest to be known as the Hottest MC in the Game. Lu may be taking awhile to craft his upcoming album L.A.S.E.R.S., but his talent doesn't take hiatus.
Enemy of the State was released on Thanksgiving Day, and obviously Lu was hungry. He jacks beats from everyone from Lil Wayne to Slaughterhouse — and even Radiohead's "Natonal Anthem" — and measures up to each and every one of them.
Although the tape is less than 30 minutes long, we're discovering a new punchline everyday. Can't-Miss Tracks: "The National Anthem," "Angels" (remix), "All the Way Turnt Up"
Why wasn't B.o.B. included in that list?
ReplyDelete^^ because they messed up once again... B.o.B's tape should have been crowned mixtape of the year.

ReplyDelete"Lu may be taking awhile to craft his upcoming album The L.A.S.E.R.S. Manifesto"
ReplyDeleteuhh lasers manifesto...?
they put up a wrong title, we all know that it's just simply "LASERS".
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion.
ReplyDelete01. Drake
02. Trey Songz
03. J.Cole
Both Lupe AND Bobby Ray my dudes.. but J. Cole just takes mixtape of the year hands down... don't care what anyone says. J. Cole is on another level
ReplyDeleteDrake shit was an album, get out of here with the mixtape crap.
ReplyDeleteJ Cole should have won it.

Honestly, the right man got the award. Drake gained superstar buzz off a mixtape, 2 (damn near #1 hits), 2 Grammy nominations... OFF A MIXTAPE and at the end of the day, he produced a great product.
ReplyDeleteThere were a number of great tapes (including Lu's, B.o.B's, etc.), but no one can say that this wasn't Drake's year.
The year ain't even over yet. Lupe's going to drop Friend of the People in a week.
ReplyDeleteDrake deserves this award. Kid blew up like I have never seen before
ReplyDeleteOKAY OKAY OKAY.. I get it if you say Drake won it because he blew up with it, which is impressive.. but if we're talking music and quality wise. J. Cole takes it. I remember that I never jammed to a mixtape like that before.. was always in my rotation
ReplyDeleteJ.Cole had the best mixtape of the year. That "Warm Up" shit is CLASSIC when you talk about quality mixtapes. but you could also say So FAr Gone was clssic becuz the type of buzz it created is honestly unmatched by any other single mixtape. But The Warm Up is just as much of an album as Drakes was, i think J. Cole is just the better artist and had the better product.
ReplyDeletethe whole "Warm Up" mixtape will never go out my rotation but some of the songs on "So Far Gone" are already deleted of my computer. just to show comparsion. And some other great mixtapes that didnt get meantion were Wiz Khalifa's Flight School, Pac Div' Church League Champions, Donnis' A Diary of an ATL Brave and Cool Kids' Gone Fishing. Still bumping all four of them
ReplyDeleteThe right guy won. He went from a Nobody to a Household name.
ReplyDeleteanyway whose says there was a better mixtape than so far gone is delusional
