This comes straight from the Charlotte, NC show, Lupe announced that we will get a release date for Lasers next week! ...Happy?
UPDATE - Hannah: "Ok, just to clarify... Lupe said after days, weeks of arguing with Atlantic "I have good news, as of yesterday, I'll have a release date for Lasers next week". When the crowd went crazy, he followed it up by saying "maybe not an exact date, but at least a week or a month".
Despite what he said after his announcement, it's still good news. At least we'll have some kind of idea when Lasers will drop next week."

Read on Boxden from another person who attended the show that he had an argument with Atlantic on Thursday, and that they promised an announcement by next week. Also, that they would release it within a six week period from next week. So, mid to late June?

Well, let's see. It's not coming out on June 15th (Drake and Game) or June 22nd (Em). So if it is coming in June, it is either going to the week before June 15th or June 29th. I'll say June 29th or the first week of July.

ReplyDeleteThe albums been done bro and atlantics had it for a couple months, so it isn't being rushed by any deadlines at all.
I find it ironic that Atlantic kept Lupe under contract but has been apathetic of releasing his music.

ReplyDeleteIts not that hard these days to sell your music digitally straight to paying fans, is it? Just look at what Radiohead, Trent Reznor, Saul Williams and even The Knife have done.
ReplyDeleteLu could try more independent avenues if he is indeed being messed around at Atlantic records. Maybe he can try this route with the upcoming Japanese Cartoon release? Or are they also signed on contract?
I was at this concert and I freaked out when he said this. And then he went on to clarify that in a week he would let us know that the album will be coming out in about a month. Everyone boo'ed but it's still good news.
