-- Along with Scream and Stereo Sun, songs that were slated to be on the album include All Systems Go, You Can Have It All, Ghost, and Lasers ft Matthew Santos. He confirmed the existence of 2 collabs that we've told you about; one with Rev Run and another with The Gorillaz. He also revealed that he wanted to have Eminem on the Superstar Remix but it didn't work out.
-- He may release the studio version of Scream once he's out of contract with Atlantic.
-- A Lupe x Lady Gaga collab existed at one point, but the label said he was rapping too fast.
-- Kid Cudi was supposed to be on "Til I Get There", and there was also a song with Lupe x Cudi x Nicki Minaj.
Craziness, so today Dem Jointz inspired me with some of his good news. And it got me reminiscing about us being in the studio. All of the hard work. The long talks about real life taking its toll in the midst of following a dream and vision.
I came across this footage of us in the studio working on a song submission for LASERS. It obviously didn’t make the cut. But it’s crazy how things come full circle. If you would have told me then that I was going to actually be ON the Generation Laser tour I would have never believed you.
The point I’m trying to make is, keep going. I know it sounds corny but truly, where one door closes another door opens. My life has been a testimony to that and so have those of the people around me. Never give up your faith, put Him 1st and exercise your God given talents to the max. Really do what you set out and say you’ll do. You will be rewarded.
I don’t want to spoil his good news so I will wait for the rest of the world to know. All I’ll say is talk that talk, and walk that walk.
AB: You mentioned Lupe. You also produced a song on Lasers. There was a bit of controversy surrounding the release of that album. When you produce a beat and an artist uses it, but there's a chance it may never get heard, how do you deal with that?
N: I try to stay out of it. With the Lupe - Atlantic situation, I've known Lupe for a while, since we both started, and we're both fans of each other, so I knew that there was some drama going on.I don't know the specifics, so it's kind of like if I were to comment on something that you don't really know too much about. Even what you may read in magazine interviews, you really just never know what's going on day to day.I've always been a big fan of Lupe and he knows that. If he ever needs anything from me I've got him. With Atlantic I have a pretty good relationship with Aaron Bay-Schuck and Mike Caren up there and a few other A&Rs.I think at the end of the day it seemed like a win-win situation. I don't know if it was the album that he wanted to necessarily put out, but it's been extremely successful. I've never heard this much Lupe on the radio and it seems like it's about to go gold and you can't really complain about that.He still has loyal fans, and this is only the third album, so I'm sure there's more to come. It's not like the end of Lupe as we know it.
AB: Gold in 2011 is the new triple platinum.
N: Yeah, it is. That's the thing. I'm happy to hear Lupe on the radio just because he's an artist you don't hear a ton on the radio and just to hear his stuff on the radio is dope to me.
Complex says: In juggling Atlantic Records' idea for a more commercially focused album, with his die hard fans' stubbornness for a follow-up to 2007's The Cool, Lupe delivered against hist greatest challenge yet.
His wordplay and double and triple entendres were ever present, and masterfully scattered throughout. With Lasers, Lupe proved taht he's a multi-dimensional artist skilled enough to bend and produce what is wanted, while carefully filling it with his own prescription of exactly what is needed.
Sure, Lu told us he hated the album, but then again, director Alan Parker once described Pink Floyd: The Wall as, "One of the most miserable experiences of my creative life." So it's just a reminder for us that maybe an artist isn't the best judge of their own work.
Wonda Music presents behind the scenes footage of Lupe Fiasco recording his smash hit 'Out of My Head' with super producers Jerry Wonda, Arden Keyz, and Lil Ronnie! Co-produced by Miykal Snoddy.
