DX: Speaking of labels, I just thought I’d get from a former Atlantic Records artist any advice you might have for Lupe Fiasco in his war with Atlantic?
Apathy: Oh shit, Lupe [Fiasco] doesn’t need any advice from me, man. Lupe’s a very smart dude, and he’s gonna come out on top… [But] I’m not even sure what [his] position is. Is it that he’s not getting the push from them and he wants more push?
DX: Well, yeah. It’s like, they abandoned him and then they came back [around], but… They put out “The Show Goes On,” which is hot, but then they still haven’t [released] a video for it or anything.
Apathy: Yeah, it’s like when you lose interest from the building and when you lose complete confidence from the building, it’s almost damn-near impossible to get that back. You might as well just say, “Alright, fuck this, I’m out…” A record label’s building and all the departments involved and everybody involved are almost like fickle, buzz-oriented girls. And once you lose that initial buzz that you created, they don’t give a fuck about you. You’ll walk up in the building and they’ll smile and be like, “Yo, what’s up man? Oh shit! I’m feeling the new shit.” But, they’re not gonna work it.It’s a very phony, corny situation… Like I said, Lupe definitely doesn’t need any advice from me, but I would say, Lu, fuckin’ jump ship, get the fuck outta there. You might as well take everything that’s built up from this point and go cake-off your own shit independently. Or go with somebody who completely gets Lupe Fiasco like Kanye West’s label or some shit like that.

What is it with people who keep saying leave Atlantic like there are no contractual obligations -_-
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see him under Kanye's label one day.
ReplyDelete^YES, YES, YES!
ReplyDeleteI hope he get's out
Well like the man said . . . Lupe doesn't need advice from him. But he's right. He's gotta jump ship . . . but he's gotta fulfill whatever is enclosed within the contract or be sued. Plain and simple. I believe Lupe only needs to release Lasers then he's done? I'm not sure but it's something like that . . . the end result will be the same.
ReplyDeleteIndependent or GOOD Music.
^
ReplyDelete^

There's no chance Lu goes independent. It would be way to much $$$$....do u see how this niggah live? He aint goin indy. And i believe he still has 2 more albums with Atlantic.
^ Do tell, How does he live?
ReplyDeleteApathy is right though. He needs to jump, but dude his contract it will be really tough. I think he got like 3 more albums. I think after that, if he decides to do more album after contract, should go independent. He get more money that way. Lupe has loyal fans and that shouldn't affect his sales going independent. The Atlantic situation is real messed up and think he can do better than being with a label that does't give shit about him. But I agree, Lupe is smart and he should know how to control a situation like this.
ReplyDeletei dunno why lu wants to be a general at F&F
ReplyDeletewhat's wrong with being under Kanye's wing.
He'd get more support, more freedom, more press...
Lu wants to have his own company but its not like he wants to manage dozens of artists.
For gods sake he dropped 90% of his team.
FnF is such a farce. It isn't shit. Lu needs to stop bullshitting and just sign with GOOD music already.
ReplyDeleteHaha . . . there's a reason I didn't mention FnF as a potential option post-Atlantic.
ReplyDeleteFake ass lupe fans...
ReplyDeleteFNF UP!
Why be on G.O.O.D when he's a better rapper than Kanye, and has a different vision. He goes there sells the same amount of records, and kanye gets the credit. Lupe gets lumped in with all the other kanye proteges, and people ignore the fact he had a movement and commercial success before hmmmm.lol
ReplyDelete^^ you think thats a worse situation than atlantic?
ReplyDeleteLupe already has his own label FNF remember. He already said why join them (GOOD Music) when he has his own label to build up. (something like that)
ReplyDeleteI love Apathy and Army of the Pharaohs, and I'm pretty sure Lu is now capable of going independent. He did the Beamin video by himself and that was great, although expensive.
ReplyDeleteF&F up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteF&F down!!
ReplyDeleteI Love FnF, but damn I think it's only him and Sarah Green on that bitch.. It used to be a force, but like dude said, it aint shit now... But I can understand his pride.. Gotta remember Chill built FnF as well so he probably doesn't wanna disrespect the nigga that prob kept him from behind bars..

ReplyDeleteAll these interviews about advice are pointless. Lupe should stay with Atlantic because they have a lot of money to market the album. Lupe said he already taped the music video, so after that's cut, TSGO should gain some more popularity.
ReplyDeleteOther solution is that he goes to GOOD Music and hops on the Kanye train... Kanye single-handedly could make this album big
no one makes it on their own. everyone needs help
ReplyDeleteno shame in working under kanye's label.
What you have to understand is that G.O.O.D. music isn't a real music label guys. It's a vanity label... like a crew or just management/production company.
ReplyDeleteFor example, all of 'Ye, Common, Kid Cudi and John Legend are on G.O.O.D. Music. However, Def Jam is the LABEL that distributes Ye's albums, Geffen distributes Common's albums, Universal distributes Kid Cudi's albums and Sony distributes John Legend's albums. G.O.O.D. music aint nothing but a name/crew/affiliation, just like any rappers' record label. If Lu were to "sign" at G.O.O.D. music, it wouldn't change anything. He'd still need to shop for a distribution deal or stay with Atlantic.
Nas should sign him
ReplyDeletea collab with lupe and nas would be great. NO one will understand hard lyric...smh
ReplyDeleteyeah, ok maybe lu can get with def jam
ReplyDeleteTo everyone saying he should sign to GOOD... you guys do realize that he would still need distribution right? as in he would still need to be GOOD/Atlantic or GOOD/Universal or GOOD/etc........ GOOD is merely a vanity label really... all of their artists go thru major labels for their releases, think of GOOD as just a name if anything
ReplyDeleteLupe passed on signing with the roc at its height, so why take a step backwards and sign with good when they aren't proven. Nobody on they label has seen the commercial success that lu has seen outside of kanye and maybe john legend. Cudi just gets it off those pop/techo/whatever crossover tracks and isnt really marketed that much. Sounds good in theory though, but def jam would hold up his record just like atlantic did.lol
ReplyDeleteYou shouldn't need a label or distributor. It's about music right, not money? Lu has countless lines about how niggas is too busy chasing chains and cars. The dude is considered hip hops most underrated artist, has a really dense following (meaning people who like him, LOVE him). He should just record and distribute digitally. Cut out all the middleman bullshit.
ReplyDeleteFNF UP
ReplyDeleteFNF UP
ReplyDeletefnf is a vanity label. and fnf is dead. he fired everybody who ever posted above was right its only him and sarah green left. hes proving to be a lousy general and a better soldier just sayn...
ReplyDeleteAllright. Now to better things. How dope would it be for a apathy and Lupe callabo?
ReplyDeleteYeah, FNF is sad. I saw Shayla G prostituting the other day. Not even $10 for a full frontal. Sad
ReplyDeleteFNF UP
ReplyDeleteI'd much rather Lupe go independent than join Kanye's label. I've always had higher hopes for FNF anyways. Too bad Chilly is locked up.
ReplyDeleteAlso GOOD Music hasn't done shit yet. FNF all day.
ReplyDeleteRhymestyle is right...GOOD music is just an imprint. Although, he says he's a general on FnF, but FnF has yet to release a non-Lupe album. Heck FnF can barely get an Lupe album released.
ReplyDeletewhen it comes down to it, all you clowns talking about joining Kanye are one of two things: Ye stans or bitch made niggas w/ no amibition, who dont understand the pride that comes from standing on your own two and building something yourself instead of shining behind one of your peers. this isnt a J.cole signing to Jay type sitution. Lupe is already a star that is on the same level as Ye why would he go join him to possibly be second teer when he is a flagship artist? not mention the fact that he would still have to work w/ majors if his w/ kanye or not...shit doesnt make sense either way to cut it
ReplyDelete^^ fool pride will get you killed....
ReplyDeletetheres absolutely nothing wrong with joining GOOD music. or any other well known production company.
PERIOD.
lupe fiasco should join nas
ReplyDeletelupe fiasco should join nas
ReplyDeletelupe +_ nas>>>>>>> GOOD music or whatever
ReplyDeletelupe>>>>>
ReplyDeleteFact of the matter is lu is gonna get screwed over on atlantic. When the time comes where he can leave them (which it will) I personally say he should go independent. Joining GOOD Music isn't bad, but to me lu wants to prove himself as someone who can make it on his own, and I think he'd be able to do well as an independent
ReplyDelete^^ Lu doesn't want to be Jay-Z corporate.
ReplyDeleteIf he did he'd jump on guest spots, dumb down and be overrated and overpaid.
anyways on other news.
I'm not too bummed if FOTP doesn't come out before 2011.
Lupe is promising a second album in 2011.
that album is going to be bananas
So let me get this straight. Some people are saying he shouldn't leave FNF for GOOD Music b/c Good Music is a vanity label.......so is FNF.
ReplyDeleteGOOD Music has put out MORE albums this year as FNF has EVER!
Lupe is a chief of FNF, this is true.
Soldiers @ GOOD > FNF Chief
Peace.
FNF UP
ReplyDeletewait... who said Nas should sign him??? Lupe career is waay more poppin then Nas. gtfoh!
ReplyDeleteI feel everybody on what they saying. My opinion will stand and I say sign to GOOD Music. It's not about him being second best or whatever. It's about him getting treated fairly and I think with GOOD Music that will happen. Atlantic ain't look after Lu at all. Kanye bring great stars and make them hot because he know how to run a proper label. Look at Common, John Legend, Kid Cudi & Big Sean. They all making it and they are very talented. Maybe Lupe pride is in the way of his judgement if he do decide to stay, but don't get pushed around. Do better have better.
