Food & Liquor Week: "Kick, Push" Video

Today we're looking back at the video for Lupe's first single "Kick, Push" which was also directed by Chris & Blaq of Impakt Studios. Besides the video for Ye's "Touch the Sky" this was the first video most fans saw of Lupe.

What I like about this clip is the whole urban/street atmosphere. That's always been something I really liked in Hip Hop videos. Lupe also got that vibe in the "Failure" video but more recently his clips are more polished and I'm kinda missing that aspect and hope that he might goes back to that for a clip in the future.

Looking back at it, you might notice that some familiar faces from Lu's crew are in the clip. I want to especially point out Ant because a lot of people been asking "Where did he come from?" when he started to join Lupe on stage. He was already there back then.

  4. There are clips around of Lu skateboarding at his early performances. He's usually cruising (like in "Daydreamin"). Unfortunately, I've never seen a clip of him landing a trick. Which is why I assume they always cut the scene once he ollies (seen toward the end of "Kick, Push" and throughout "Change").

On a side note, I miss Lu's old specs. Came off as more friend of the people.

  8. He better be fucking joking.

J.cole's mixtapes are better than Cole World shyyyhhht....

Not to say that Cole World is bad though. It's good- no it's great, but it just didn't exceed his previous work especially since J.Cole be hyping it and what not "I saved songs over the years for this album because they are TOO good for mixtapes."

Cole World isn't insta-classic like F&L and the Cool is imo.

  11. This video was the first time I was exposed to Lupe. I remember catching the video during the third verse, I thought "oh shit, a hip-hop song about skateboarding. Dope!" I wrote down his name and the title of the track, saw the video again, and the rest is history. This song/video pushed Lu all the way to the top on my favorite artists.

  12. The first time I saw this video it was like a cool refreshing drink of smart water. This is the only video I feel visually captures the imagery Lupe Fiasco paints through his lyrics and the laid back mellow basement vibe of soundtracks "beats". Also, I too remember hearing Lupe for the first time on Kanye's Touch the Sky. When I saw Kick Push I remember thinking, "Lupe looks just how I imagined him, thin and brown with glasses....and kinda cute."
