Lupe Fiasco talks about appearing on the runway, Kanye West's clothing line and Jay-Z!

Lupe is currently in Sydney to walk the catwalk for Melvin Tanaya and Lyna Ty's line, Song For The Mute, at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia. They spoke to Marie Claire magazine ahead of the event, here are some excerpts:

On making his catwalk debut:
Lupe, you’re making your catwalk debut tonight: how do you feel about that?
Lupe: It’s not really like a catwalk, it’s just a box right guys?
Melvin: Yeah, a pedestal (laughs)
Lupe: No, it’s cool. I’m not even thinking about it. I mean I’ll just put on some clothes, walk to the end, turn around and come back again.
Melvin: Yeah we didn’t think about that, are you nervous at all? (laughs).
Lupe: Well I'm going closing the show – I get to watch all the models do their thing first and then I’ll just copy what they do. It’s like cheating!

Lupe Fiasco meets Song For The Mute Designers

While in Sydney, Lupe, who dressed head-to-toe in Australian label Song For The Mute at this year's Grammys, went hunting for more threads from the local designer during a trip to Harrold's at Westfield CBD.

But staff at the store say that when Fiasco arrived the Songs For The Mute label had sold out.

So what to do? Go straight to the source with Fiasco then visiting the label's showroom and meeting with designers Melvin Tanaya and Lyna Ty before purchasing one of every garment.

"It was so great to meet Lupe," Tanaya told Confidential.

A "Cool" Jacket [Throwback]

Whilst tweeting some Lupe Fiasco lyrics today, Mikill Pane responded to me, re
citing the rest of the lyrics. I then asked him what he knew about Lupe and he sent me a link to this dope photo of him wearing a Lupe x Romanelli jacket from The Cool collection.

You all remember those, right? Bringing back some good old memories and the question: Wouldn't a Lasers jacket be cool?

illRoots Profile: Lupe Fiasco's Trilly & Truly

To follow up their profile with Ibn Jasper, illRoots caught up with Lupe Fiasco on set of the recent RSVP Gallery lookbook video shoot for Trilly & Truly’s Basic Info.

For the Spring/Summer run of merchandise, Lupe decided to stick with a simplistic theme that focused more around iconic imagery than complex design.

A true innovator in both fashion and music, Lupe goes in depth on his clothing line, how he separates the two and what he hopes people will take from it. - illRoots
