As most of you know, Lupe has been continuously teasing the world with the snippet of Shining Down, well I started to think and I have a theory. Here is the Snippet again:
As you notice, it's the same snippet that you've probably heard a hundred times, the same snippet that's probably playing on your iPod as you read this, the same snippet that is taking over all these blogs. Everyone seems to be excited over what the actual verse may sound like and I started to think, hmmmm could it be possible that the verse is right in front of us?
This is footage from down here at Indiana University when Lupe and Bishop G performed "New Shit" (1:05), has anyone else noticed (those who have recently seen Lupe perform) that he doesn't perform this song anymore?
Could it be because this was a song intended for lupEND and that he is saving it? Well maybe, but then again Shining Down was originally mentioned before "The Great American Album/Lasers" was announced, so why save that song but release Shining Down?

Could it be possible that "New Shit" is the same song
(with a different beat of course) as Shining Down?
Just something for you all to think about.
it's a good theory, but i doubt it for three reasons.
ReplyDeletea) their speeds are completely different, and i tried making that one slower and it doesn't really work
b) Not A Gangster (or NaG, thats wat im callin it) seems to have a distinct hook.
c)a song whose chorus is about blessing from the gods (SD) + old school lyrical animal in NaG don't really go together...
a) I thought about that too but that could always change, for all we know the "IU" performance was originally intended to be an acapella like how he did The Coolest with "Shining Down" being the original beat for it
ReplyDeleteb)maybe
c)and who knows, we'll see with time
Good thinking!
I'm thinking that "Shining Down" is definitely a track that Lupe's had for awhile considering Santos says "see that I'm EVERYWHERE, EVERYWHERE..." and as you know "Everywhere" was the original title of Lupe's next album. But I think it's separate form "New Shit"
ReplyDeleteThe verse definitely doesn't match the chorus. It's something completely different. When is Lupe going to stop teasing us and release something new. I thought he said end of March.
ReplyDeleteis it just my lack of some knowledge that i missed somewhere along the line, or is it possible that this could be a song from matthew santos' upcoming album, and lupe is just promoting it.
ReplyDeletei know that the feel of the song has a more hip hop feel, something i doubt santos is going to have in much of his music, but i think it is feasible.
hmmm you seem to have a good point there!! new theory!!
ReplyDeletewould be so dope if it was Santos' song...and Lu just promoting it...
ReplyDeletesome fans will get sad some will be excited. but we'll see what's gonna happen sooooon.
rhymestyle... stfu
ReplyDeletefirstly this song was supposed to be the first single from LUPEnd...
ReplyDeleteSecondly the beats being at different bpm doesn't proof or disproof anything..
thirdly no this is not off Santos new album... check the first paragraph...
and lastly trying to connect these two completely different songs together is the act of desperation from not hearing the complete song yet.. lmao :)
Normally I enjoy overthinking but this just makes no sense :)
nooo!! thats what I'm saying tho!
ReplyDelete1) lupEND aint ready yet, not until next year, why release that but not release the song he was teasing @ his shows
2) It CAN be at different bpm, I mean think about it, I seen Lupe perform songs over dif beats like Kick Push over 93 till infinity, or The Coolest over a dif beat, its not that hard to adjust a verse to a dif beat, my theory was for all we know the "new shit" song could have originally been to the Shining Down beat but Lu prolly just performed it using the band @ the concert for "performance purposes"
3) I dont believe in this one that much, like I said it just could be a possibility, who knows?? As a CEO of a production company, you should always see your artists first, and for all we know Lu could just be pushing a Matthew Santos song/Santos x Lupe song
and Finally: how you know they are different, you should always expect the unexpected especially from someone like Lupe, thinking outside the box > Thinking in the box, never assume stuff because when you assume in hip hop, youll just end up setting false standards that will not be met when the final product is delivered.
Example: Eminem - We Made You
Everyone was soo hyped for a new Eminem song, expecting something RIDICULOUSLY CRAZY since he's been MIA all this time, but when he finally comes out people are upset because he comes out with a style that he has always had since day one, you see We Made You is the exact same type of song that Em has always been known for, it his signature, so why would people be upset at that?? Because they set false standards out of Hype and his musical absence
Remember, always expect the unexpected!!!
By the way, dont make me pull out my Riddles that drive people insane... LETS SEE IF YOU LIKE OVERTHINKING THEN =] *evil laughter*
well off to play, I mean destroy people on Street Fighter =] (shout out to BlackIllmatic tho, he beat me the other day LOL)
Twitter me if ya wanna play www.twitter.com/rhymestyle
its not the beat they are sayin doesnt match the IU verse, they are sayin that the content of the IU verse and the shinin down chorus dont match
ReplyDeleteShining Down is definitely NOT a Matt song...back when Lu had twitter, before the lasers one, before the greatest american rap album, when lupEND was still planned, he said Shining Down was HIS first single and that it was crazy. It's definitely not a santos song. If it was, why would he LIE and say it was his song? Think about it....
ReplyDelete@S-Preme well like I said, not wanting to lean towards a matt song but you and me both know the dude is unpredictable, when lupEND was pretty much cancelled, then it could have pretty much turned into a "anything goes" type of situation, thats just a theory tho... who knows, overthinking sucks @ 3 am LOL
ReplyDeleteis it too early to start talking about a shining down remix? lmao
ReplyDeleteI think "New Shit" was something that he just did to give people something new to hear...
ReplyDeleteI don't think that it'll pop up on any album...
well i guess you have made a decent point (a) and a not so good one (b) about my theory that it is a santos song.
ReplyDelete(a) s-preme said that shining down was announced as his first single on lupEND, so that is a good point, BUT at the time no snippet of the song had ever been released to my knowledge.
(b) hlynkinn said is plain words that "this song was supposed to be the first single off lupEND, but that is sorta untrue, considering the fact that almost immediately when people started saying that he came RIGHT OUT saying that shining down is NOT the first single from lasers.
so s-preme u made a good point that shining down has been directly said by him at one point to be his single, so i think that is prob correct. but in my defense, he did clearly state it wasnt the single from lasers, so that got me thinking about who's song it could be!
OH YEAH YOU'RE RIGHT!!! I totally forgot about that... BACK TO OVERTHINKING!!! lmao
ReplyDeleteyeah we can overthink all day and night, especially when it comes to lupe we just never know whats next.
ReplyDeletebut damn do we have fun wondering what is coming next, and when we will be blessed with another cleverly handcrafted album by wasaLU.
and i really wanna know how the hell you guys got this blog going, as well as getting stageside tickets to his show at EIU as well as pictures with him backstage.
OH THE THINGS I WOULD DO JUST TO MEET LUPE ONCE HAHA.
I think they are two different songs.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I read on prefixmagazine.com that Lasers(We are Lasers) is dropping on December 29. Anyone else here of that?
^^ I read that yeah but I think they just put that date on it because they don't know when it'll drop.
ReplyDeleteAmazon does the same all the time...they just add random dates.
and Lupe clearly said that it drops this summer.
Yea true he did say that. Ight Sean lets hope Lupe sticks to the Summer(preferably not the last day of Summer :>).
ReplyDeleteRight out of Lupe's Mouth --> The Album drops.....MAY!!
ReplyDeletebut that probably means next year LMFAO!!
...and hopefully it just sticks to the may release.
