Where Are They Now? - All City Chess Club

They say time heals all wounds and we certainly hope that is the case for these stages of grief that believers in the impossible have been cycling through since 2010. Detailed in this DJ Booth article, All City Chess Club was slated to be The Scorpion King’s oasis in a desert of turn of the decade Hip-Hop. But what was supposed to raise an army of undead lyricism over Pharrell inspired beats, was instead a necropolis, as fictional as Hamunaptra.


Nine years later, residual memories of the super group that could have been make their rounds across social media platforms and live on as murmurs around blog water coolers. While the collective acceptance of the fate of ACCC has been reached, there are still many questions unanswered and bears un-poked. The dismantling of the group may not make it to the yearbook pages, but one has to wonder what the alumni newsletters would look like at the 10 year reunion. For the kids voted Most Likely To Succeed, we have to ask, "Where Are They Now?"

 Asher Roth


His aura took the form of the Aroura bourealis and his northern light continued to beam from 2010 to the present. In 2011, Roth released his mixtape Pabst & Jazz as a recent artist on Def Jam. His next album was tentatively titled Is This Too Orange, but he scrapped that title out of respect for now label mate Frank Ocean's Channel Orange. From 2012 to the present, Asher announced an EP Rawther with Nottz Raw and Travis Barker and and subsequently released the follow up to his successful mixtape The Greenhouse Effect, The Greenhouse Effect 2.



RetroHash was released in 2014 and is a phenomenal project with features from ZZ Ward, Curren$sy, and Chuck Inglish. In 2016, Roth finally released his promised EP Rawther and hinted at working on his third album, Red Hot Revival by dropping loosie freestyles.

 Asher's latest entry to his discography comes with the help of Cool Kid Chuck Inglish. Along with his consistentcy in music, Asher can also be caught helping keep the City of Brotherly Love beautiful by volunteering for community clean-ups.Stream his 2019 single "Can't Jump" and check back to see what the rest of the group has been up to.

Mickey Factz spoke to Nerds With Passports a while back and at 3:58, he speaks on his relationship with Lupe. He also said that Lupe put him in charge of getting everybody in All City Chess Club together which is a difficult task and unless Pharrell takes the role, the group is pretty much defunct.

Blu talks All City Chess Club x Collabo w/ Lupe and Mickey Factz

Blu gave an interview to ACCC.net and talked about the All City Chess Club and a possible collabo between him, Mickey Factz and Lupe. Read below!

ACCC: As many of our readers know, the All City Chess Club “We Beamin’” track was released back in ‘10. Once it dropped, it became the talk of the blogosphere for quite some time. Although the song was well recieved, fans didn’t really get a feel of the recording process behind it. Can you give us a run-down about the atmosphere within the studio when the song was recorded? -- Where Lupe & others in attendance during the session?

Blu: no, not really, actually i was just given the instrumental with instructions to blaze the song, which was surprisingly produced by pharrell of the neptunes. i gave the original a few more listens to make sure i was on track with the concept, and i laced it and sent it back. shortly after i heard the completed song, i thought i should have been placed after lupe, but going after the cool kids was cool, haha.

ACCC: We’re sure many of the fans who visit our site ponder about this from time to time. By your knowledge, were there any other tracks that were recorded other than “We Beamin’” during the All City Chess Club session that never escaped “the vault”?

Blu: not really, i don't know if the guys got together without me and create something,
but there is a track that should actually be sent to me soon with mickey factz and lupe on it.

ACCC: Lupe Fiasco has always been supportive of you Blu, he did said that you’re the only that “scares him” after all. He did mention times before that if he were to have features on his latest album,Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1, he would have only asked you and Kendrick Lamar to contribute. What a great honor -- did Lu ever reach out to you about being apart of F&L2?

Blu: no, i didn't get the invite. all tho we talked quite a few times while he was in california working on the record, i actually got tied up and missed a big session with him that could have possibly placed me on the record.

Video: Lupe Fiasco interview w/ HardknockTV [Part 2]

Part 2 of Hardknock TV's interview with Lupe starts off with Nick Huff Barili asking Lupe if he has worked with any of the new generation artists like Kendrick Lamar and Blu on Food & Liquor 2.

Lupe responds that he wants to be a fan but not necessarily collaborate cause he doesn't want to taint his vision of them.

Nick continues by asking if Lupe feels he has to sneak in substance into music that plays in a commercial realm. Lupe not only answers that but also goes into misconceptions regarding his last album Lasers and says that the production on F&L 2 will be modern hip hop beats.

They also touch on the subjects of Lupe wanting to retire from the music industry and his interest in teaching, the All City Chess Club, CRS and the album he is going to put out with just Pharrell.

Lupe was just on RapFix Live with Nature and Sway, and did one of the best interviews he has ever done. He thanked Nature for being one of the MC's that taught him how to rap, and also for providing the "Fiasco" part to his rap alias via a song off The Firm album.

He also reveals that the creative process of some songs may be halted in order for him to read a book and become more knowledgable on the particular subject. He says that process was applied to his next single "Lamborghini Angels", then spits some of the lyrics off the track:

With her eyes to the ceiling and a needle in her brain, She looks back into the crowd, wipes the blood and then explains, How she slipped from this existence to the realm of the deranged, Her becoming must be halted to reverse what she became, From the looseness of her tongue to the pollution of her aims, To do nothing is barbaric, the solution is humane, You must destory the mind and hopefully retrain, Torture out the wildness and replace it with the tame, Blank slate, when she recovers she won't even know her name, Perfect wife and perfect lover, no resistance, no complaints, May God bless the scientific cure for the insane, Knew that she shouldn't go to school, but she thought that that should change..

It sounds like another chapter of the MYH Saga to me, haha! The process was also applied to a song called "Atomic Misphilosophy" off Food & Liquor 2 Part 2. Also, Sway played a montage of a few members from All City Chess Club expressing desire to work on a full project, to which Lupe replied "Let's do it!". He said a mixtape would be a simpler process than an album as far as the legalities go, so lets hope it comes to fruition. 

Also, he compared the status of CRS to someone going into a coma on the operating table. It's not a gurantee that it will wake up again, but it's definitely not off the table. Most importantly, watch above as Sway plays a six year old clip of himself and Lupe touring Chicago for an episode of MTV's: My Block. When the video was over, Lupe was in tears because some of the people in the clip have already passed away. He goes on to say that watching the video made him feel helpless because even six years later, nothing has changed about his neighborhood and he knows that some of the kids won't make it out of there. 

Personally, this interview struck a huge chord and I can admit that I also shed a few tears. For people outside of the U.S, HERE is an alternate link to that portion of the interview. B.o.B describes new album as "More Organic"

B.o.B's new album "Strange Clouds" drops on May 1st and in the May Issue of XXL Mag he talks about the album and how it's more organic than his debut.

By now, the origin story of B.o.B’s Billboard No. 1 song “Nothin’ on You” is part of industry lore: The Bruno Mars–led songwriting team The Smeezingtons created the track during writing sessions for Atlantic Records artists B.o.B, Travie McCoy and Lupe Fiasco; Fiasco and B.o.B both recorded versions of the record; Fiasco’s was deemed “wack,” in the alleged words of Atlantic co-chairman and CEO Craig Kallman, so B.o.B was bestowed with the smash. The whole thing revealed the assembly-line hitmaking process deployed at major record labels these days. (In an interesting twist, B.o.B once lost out on a big record of his own, having passed on Flo Rida’s club jam “Right Round.”)

B.o.B claims Strange Clouds’ second single, “So Good,” is the only song created in a similar manner to “Nothin’ on You,” and that the album is a bit more “organic.” It’s one of his favorite words. “I have a record called ‘Circles,’ which is like ‘Nothin’ on You’ but more organic,” he says. “This is how I’ll explain the whole project: It’s not about having a good song or a hit song, it’s about having songs that are organic. At least for me, that’s what it’s like. For me, this album is a lot more organic but just as good [as The Adventures of Bobby Ray]. Do you like burgers? Well, these burgers are organic and they taste better.”

Mickey recently talked to The Silver Tongue about a whole bunch of stuff and he touched on an All City Chess Club project that he'd like to see happen....

"We're all ready, we are waiting on him [Lupe]. Whenever he decides he wants to do it, then we will do it. Everybody that's in the crew has said 'We're ready, we want to start working'. We are waiting on Lupe, everybody is waiting on him."

In preparation for his upcoming project, Mickey MauSe, the Bronx emcee has started his visual campaign to promote the new music. I've had the pleasure to receive the advanced copy of this project and all I have to say is that this might be my favorite album yet. Trust me, it's THAT good and I'm not that easily impressed by a lot of music I hear.

We're going back in time on 3/26/12. In the meantime, subscribe to Mickey's youtube channel and be on the lookout for a lot of new content over there.

Mickey Factz - Mickey Mau5 [Sampler]

On the horizon of his next project, Mickey Factz puts together a sampler of music from the project titled "Mickey Mau5", he's been working on.

Mickey Mau5 (pronounced mouse) is a pseudo-character created by Factz to tell the tale of a kid growing up in Nyc, during the street graffiti era of Fab 5 Freddy, Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf, Jean-Michel Basquiat, etc. Embodying the spirit of the 80's, Mickey delivers a full concept tape, with a sound-bed sampled from Deadmau5 & Dangermouse production.

In the upcoming weeks, there will be a visual release as well as tracks leaked from the project. No date is yet set for the release.

Wale talks Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor

Wale put together a list of his 25 Favorite Rap Albums for Complex. Lupe's Food & Liquor is on #18 on his list. Here's what he said about it:

“I can’t tell you how big of a Lupe fan I was when he first came out. I didn’t know a damn thing about skateboarding, but I was like, ‘This fly Chicago nigga man, he’s spitting. For real.’ That Revenge of The Nerds mixtape? Fucking crazy. And it was the start man.

People think Kanye started these new niggas. But Lupe Fiasco started all of this shit for us to get a chance and for Complex to really fuck with niggas like us. I can’t even really compare it to B.O.B. and Meek, because they’re more street-based. But for someone like myself, Cudi, or even my artist Black Cobain, that kind of gave us that other look.”

Mickey Factz speaks on joining the All City Chess Club

In a recent interview Lupe revealed that Mickey Factz is also a part of the All City Chess Club line up now. Mickey talked to Vibe about it and shared his thoughts.

“Me and Lupe, we’ve spoken a lot in the past, toured together, so it just makes sense,” Mickey says of joining the team. “We kind of have the same ideology when it comes to music, so I’m glad that he finally decided to put me down. It’s definitely a natural fit.”
