Lupe Fiasco tells Young Black Grads that they still have much Work to Do

Dozens of young, black men who recently graduated from (Chicago) area high schools gathered Saturday to be honored for their achievement, but they also got a dose of reality from rapper Lupe Fiasco.
The local rapper began by saying, “Congratulations, you have graduated from one of the most terrible, substandard school systems in the entire world. You have just spent the last . . . 12 years receiving one of the worst educations on earth. You are at least four, five steps behind people in other countries that are younger than you.”

Video: Little Kaiju [Short Film]

Something a little different for a change... Little Kaiju is a short film brought to us by the directors of the Battle Scars video. It shows us the whimsical journey of a mysterious vending machine dwelling creature who explores the shadowy corners of Tokyo after dark.

Kaiju (怪獣 kai-jū) is a Japanese word that means "strange beast," but is often translated in English as "Monster."

Message from TWiN (the directors):

We'd love to connect with anybody who enjoyed the film, and encourage you to send our little kaiju out into the big bad world. Continue to check back on the official Facebook page for updates on the film and a limited toy release!

"Nihon Town" is Amajanese

Crazy! This is the ultimate mashup illustration created by Ken Taya who mashed US and Japanese pop culture icons in this piece (he also designed some parts of Halo 3 and other games).

It's called "Nihon Town" and features Tokyo Plastic, Danny Choo aka Tokyo Dance Trooper, Obey Giant/Andre the Giant, Doraemon/Garfield, Noodle(Gorillaz), the Astro Boy with Mickey Mouse ears, Budweiser & Yebisu, the Bape logo and NHK’s mascot "Domo Kun" + many more pop-icons.

Oh man, I love this. This is Amajanese on the highest level.

Lupe Fiasco Presents: The Trilly & Truly Winter Collection

click the images

Lupe Fiasco drops some new pieces of his Trilly & Truly clothing line. Here’s a first look at the new line from Japanese based magazine, WARP. The models are seen wearing a Trilly & Truly sweater, stadium jacket, down jacket, and some denim. The collection will be available at the Swagger Flagship Harajuku store.

-I'd definitely rock that red jacket.

about the brand:

Newest of brands, IMPERIAL JUNKIE….

After the Creative Director was given the opportunity to travel extensively to Asia, but starting to fall in love with all things Japanese about 6 years ago when he began traveling regularly to Japan. This is where he started to “fiend” for all things Japanese. He’d stay a few days or even a couple of week at a time. He wasn’t always working; he was soaking up the Japanese culture. The best things just happen naturally!

The Creative Director says “It’s another world over there, but it’s also a mirror of our world.” The Japanese seem to love everything American, yet they still value everything that is traditional, old school Japanese. The growing modern / new school Japanese culture loves everything about western street culture, such as hip hop. They seem to drench themselves in our hip hop and street history, while still remaining true to themselves and mixing and remixing our style and our swagger to form a new youthful bond of street couture in fashion, music, design and just plain street-style bravado. This balancing act is what he admired and enticed him to begin something new, and now he has produced the first ideas for IMPERIAL JUNKIE.

A Genius Lu' Volume 14...Kinda

This week's Genius Lu' is going to be a little different...

After Lupe's set at Lollapalooza, we ran to the F.Y.E. Tent to go meet him. So I was standing there thinking to myself, "Yay, why do you want another thing with Lu's signature if you already have one at home?"

So then I started thinking...Out of all people, who would really want one?
...I'll tell you in a little bit ;)

So we're in line..and it's my turn to get my Food & Liquor booklet signed...
and here's part of the convo Lu and I had:

Me: "Hey! Do you remember me?" (sad question, right? haha)
Lupe: "Mmmm..yellow M&M's?"
Me: "Yeah!"
Lupe: "Do you have some with you right now? Cuz I'm starving!"
Me: "haha..no, I'm sorry."
Lupe: "Ahhh..It's okay."

So I handed him the booklet..
Me: "Can you dedicate it to Sean?"
Lupe: "Yeah sure, how do you spell it? S-H-A-U.."
Me: "No, S-E-A-N. The guy from the.."
Lupe: "Oh, the guy from that Lupe blog, right?"
Me: "Yeah! Him!"

While he's signing "To: Sean,"
he says: "Is Amajanese with a 'G' or a 'J'? Spell it for me."
Me: "A-M-A-J-A-N-E-S-E"
Lupe: "Okay, cool."
Me: "You gotta use that word in a song Lupe!"
Lupe (with a grin on his face): "We'll see..."

We then said our goodbyes while he gave me this:

So BAAAAAAM! There you have it SEAN!
Just a lil piece of appreciation for all of your hard work!
=)

The Amajanese Mixtape - Update

2 months ago I contacted a couple of artists
to record tracks for a mixtape exclusively for this blog.

Almost all of them have been interested to be a part of it.

Now we are at a stage of the project
where we can seriously think about a release date.

There are still some spots available, just in case
anyone still want's to be a part of it.

I'm also still waiting for 3 artists to submit their tracks.

The 1 main thing I asked everyone to do was
to include the word "Amajanese" in their songs.

So if you are an artist who would like to be a part of this mixtape....
send a mail to:

jeezy44@gmail.com

You have 3 weeks left to submit your track

Lupe Fiasco At The EVISUISSE Launch

Lu And Leila

Super Super Kids

It's A Celebration !!!

Giuseppe and Lu

Cult Japanese denim brand EVISU, in collaboration with FIRE ROCK International (distributor of Black Dice watches), joined forces on Thursday 10th of July to celebrate the launch of their exclusive Swiss Made Time pieces ‘EVISUISSE’.

Held in the Savile Row store, the stunning collection for men and women, was on display for the first time for press and industry alike. Among the exclusive attendees were Kelly Rowland, Lupe Fiasco and Adam Deacon who plays “Jay” in the critically acclaimed Kidulthood and Adulthood.

Evisu’s Japanese heritage remained the core theme of the night, with fresh hand-rolled sushi; ice cold Kirin beer; Japanese window art and even gilded Samurai warriors.

Thank You !!!

For real

Thanks to everyone who supports the blog and
to everyone who actually takes the time to write
me a mail or post a comment on here.

We all really appreciate that.

And also thanks to all the artists that
include the word "Amajanese" in their tracks.

When I started that whole thing with the word,
I never thought that I would actually hear tracks
where people base the whole song around it.

That's still crazy to me.

So...thanks to everyone who shares my vision
and to everyone who supports the Amajanese movement.

You all rock !
