Decoded: Jay-Z in Conversation with Cornel West [Full Video]

Jay discussed his new book "Decoded" with Dr. Cornel West at the New York Public Library yesterday. Why am I posting this? Well, they briefly talked about Lupe who was also in the building (click on 'Watch Full Program' & check it at the 45:07 mark)

I met Lupe 10 years ago and I thought he was an extraordinary writer from there, I executive produced his first album...some of the things he's said are just mind boggling, if you sit down and really listen to some of the things this young man has said, you just can't believe it. - Jay on Lu

Lupe Fiasco reaches out to Jay Electronica & explains Jay-Z Comment

While on the red carpet for the premiere of the MTV documentary "Summit on the Summit: Kilimanjaro," Lupe spoke to MTV and said that he's not only down with collaborating with Jay Electronica, he's initiating things.

"I reached out to him a couple of days ago with some real serious ideas," Lupe said. " 'Let's put a program together. Something that works out and makes sense for the both of us.'

He's a very talented MC. One of the few MCs that I actually listen to what they're saying. I don't listen to 98 percent of the rappers out there. But he's one of the MCs I listen to and I'm inspired to do so. A collaboration is in the works."

Lupe also clarified the comments he made recently, when he said he did not want to be like Jay-Z...watch the video above to find out what he said.

Dr. Cornel West on modern-day Hip Hop, Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli & Jay-Z

The Spectrum interviewed Dr. West before his Friday night speech at The Center for the Arts in Buffalo, NY.

They discussed various topics including Obama, Dr. West's childhood and modern-day Hip Hop. Check the Hip Hop part below:

The Spectrum: Now I’m an old school hip-hop guy, and I know you’re big on that stuff and have even been mentioned in Lupe Fiasco songs. I’m kind of skeptical of modern hip-hop, pop kind of stuff. What’s your view of all of the stuff on the radio?

Dr. West: Guys like Talib Kweli and Lupe Fiasco rap messages and have something to say. Now Jay-Z is on the radio and he’s talented, but he’s just not at the level he use to be at on Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint. The genius is still there, but there’s no more motivation.

The Spectrum: Do you think those artists that are on the radio rap about limited messages are providing bad role models to young African Americans?

Dr.West: They’re not spiritually deep. I’m a libertarian, people have the right to make noise, but there’s a lack of diversity of voices on the radio. Every generation has some music that’s questionable and not overly sophisticated.

Unfortunately, the radio is so systematic. When I was making my album, they said if I made a catchy and booty-shaking single, they’d play it. But that’s not what music should be about, especially the popular songs on the radio.

Can I Get An Encore?

Another video from the Jay-Z concert in Chicago...this time he performs "Encore". The special thing about this video is, that there's a girl in the front row who gets to do something that Jay should have done during some of his recent radio interviews...

There's also a certain dude up there on the balcony, enjoying the show. If you can't see him, he's rockin' a black & white jacket...I guess you know who I'm talking about...

Video: Jay-Z - Blueprint 3 Intro (Live @ Mohegan Sun)

Blueprint 3 - September 11th

Jay performed @ the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut yesterday, together with Fabolous and Lupe. Wait...Lupe performed?...Yeah!...originally Ciara was meant to perform but she had to cancel due to an unspecified illness...so Lupe stepped in and performed in her place. Footage of Lupe's performance?...maybe later.

Here's what Fabolous said about the show:
